My iPod can charge, but it won't show up on iTunes or the Finder

Okay, here's what happened: My 1.8 GB ipod nano has worked well with my Mac OS X, Version 10.2.8, with me putting music unto my iPod, which i've had for a good while...until yesterday, when I tried connecting it to my computer (which was previously not in use for a couple of weeks) and my iPod would not show on the Finder and it wouldn't open up iTunes automatically, but it would charge the iPod (which is currently fully charged), though "Do Not Disconnect" still flashes. Oddly enough, when I go to my Now, I tried resetting my iPod, using different USB cables, restarting my computer, and I have installed all current software updates, and it still hasn't worked. I don't want to reinstall iTunes 6-the lastest version-or restart my iPod or use a computer upgrade which costs big bucks, as well as lose songs i've bought and put unto both, which measure over $25.
However, when I go to Isync and Apple System Profiler, and check in the "Devices and Volumes" section (gotten to by apple symbol/about this mac/more info->Apple System Profiler/Devices and Volumes), I see they mention that the iPod nano is connected to the computer....Now, I DID hook up my iPod and the USB cable that came with it to different newer versions of iMac computers at the Apple store here in New York City at 5 avenue, to charge my iPod and to play my music on them (and it worked fine, I just couldn't play music I bought from the online iTunes music store, but, back on topic), so that may have caused the problem I have now, so, now I need a solution, so, if anyone can help my problem, I'd be very thankful, thank you.

In order, I tried the first 3 (Reset, Retry, Restart) of the 5 steps, I don't wanna Reinstall and Restore, and risk losing my music on both, find out that still didn't help, and then having to buy it all back again, which isn't cheap, its fully charged, I use USB to connect between my iPod nano and my Mac (version 10.2.8), it isn't asleep when doing this, my computer, though it says it isn't compatible with a version 10.2.8, it used to work fine for months with no problems at all, I have the lastest version of iTunes, I have no plugged in FireWire equipment, my nano has never frozen, I doubt the USB cable I use or the computer port are faulty, as the nano can still charge and other things that use the USB ports (such as the keyboard) can still work, I'm not sure if my nano's hard disk format was damaged or not, but, I must admit, i've accidentaly dropped it a couple of times, but it still would work fine by itself or when it was connected with the computer, and I don't think my nano has a faulty port.

I have my ipad plugged into my mac to charge, but it's not showing up in itunes.  Can i just unplug it without hurting it??

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • IPod can charge but no icon and non reconize by the computer

    Hi... I need your help.
I have a Mini IPod since 2 years now and suddenly I've got a problem with it (since 5 month).
I have tried all the solutions by myself (update, download, reset,... I've also tried to connect it with a Mac but no way, for the computer there is no IPod connected). Nothing work.
    The problem is :
    1. I can hear music but can not connect to my PC computer and download new songs in my IPod (it is connected but for my computer there is no IPod connected, so there is no way to do a hardware reset.).
    2. More weird, when it is "pluged in" with my computer, my IPod is charging without any "charging" icon.
    So, ... please ... help me :))
    Thanx

  • Ipod can charge but itunes says its not connected

Just got a ipod about an hour ago and connected it to my cpu and it is charging but when i try to put songs from my cpu to the ipod its doesnt show up anywhere i cant sync it and i did the diagnostics check and it says Ipod connection status failed. How do i fix it. I went to the help menu and none of it has resloved my problem.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.
    Still no joy, see these.
USB drivers are not installed properly.
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • I bought my friend's old ipod, she wants some songs back but they won't show up on iTunes. How do i get them back?

My friend upgraded to a touch and in turn gave me her old classic. She put a whole bunch of music on there from different cd's but after seeing what she still had on it she realized she lost some of those songs on her computer. I tried to get them off with the transfering puchased music, but they won't come off! She bought this music fair in square and would like to have them back. How in the world do i get them back to her?

The music sync is one way - computer to ipod.  The exception is itunes purchases.
As the songs came from her computer in the first place, so they should still be there and should be included in her regular backup copy of her computer.
You need to restore the ipod, erasing all of the music as you have no legal right to it.

  • HT1267 I just got a used iPhone and I reset it but it won't show up in iTunes or my PC. The screen on the iPhone is showing me to connect to iTunes but I can't.

I need help getting my used iPhone to show up on my PC or in iTunes. I have already removed iTunes and everything with it and then reinstalled it so far. Please help. Thanks

have you tried reinstalling iTunes? because what I think it's happening is that your computer doesn't have the appropiate drivers needed for your iPhone, this drivers should've come with iTunes, but in your case, it probably didn't. So just try reinstalling iTunes or repairing it. It will help to know if your are on windows or mac

  • I have an iPod 2nd Generation and it won't show up in iTunes

So I got a new laptop and I wante to transfer my music from my iPod onto it, so I plugged it in the new laptop.  I accidentally clicked that it was okay for all of my music to be erased, which is not what I wanted to do.
Anyway, so I figured that I could just hook my iPod up to my old computer (which is a dinosaur and barely functioning) and get the music back onto my iPod.  But it said to get all of it on there, I had to download the latest version of iTunes which I ha not done since probably 2008.
After I downloaded the newest version, i hooked my iPod into the comuter, and it began syncing.  It had been on step one of the syncing proess all day (approx. 8 hours) and it wasnt moving, so I unhooked it, thinking something was wrong, and that I would try again.
Ever sice then, Windows would recognize that my iPod was plugged in and ask to transfer my pictures to Microsoft Word, but iTunes did not register that my iPod was plugged in..
    HELP!!
    thanks

It already restored on my new compuer, so now it's completely wiped.
But when I plug it into my old computer it's only registering when I put it into recovery mode, and then it won't let me recover it because of a network probem ot being secure, so it is telling me to try again later.
It says "The iPod software update server could not be contacted."

  • My iphone 5s won't show up in itunes after the 11.1.4 update. How do I connect it so I can sync music again?

It's been about three weeks since I was able to connect my phone to itunes. When I connect my phone to my computer, it will show up on the desktop, and I can sync my photos, but itunes doesn't recognize it. I've tried removing and downloading itunes three times, and have restarted my phone and nothing's changed. I know there's nothing wrong with the usb cable or my phone. I'm pretty confindent that it has something to do with the 11.1.4 update. Does anybody know how this can be fixed?

    Hello macr888,
I would be concerned as well if my iPhone was not recognized by iTunes.  Thank you for providing all the information with the steps you took in regards to this issue.  I found an article with a few more steps you can take (you can skip the steps you have already taken):

  • Ad hoc internet sharing works fine but iPhone won't show up in itunes

    Hi all,
I have set up an Ad hoc wifi network on my laptop and am able to connect to it from my iphone 3GS and share its (laptop) internet connection.
I have checked "Sync with this iPhone over wireless networks" in itunes.
However as soon as I unplug the USB cable my iphone disappears from itunes and "Sync Now" on iphone becomes greyed.
I can connect to Internet from iphone using the ad hoc network so I know they two devices are communicating wirelessly.
I just don't understand why I can't see the iphone in itunes.
I am running itunes 10.6.1.7 and IOS 5.1
Any help will be highly appreciated

  • Shuffle (2nd gen) plays but won't show up in iTunes/Finder

Our 2nd generation shuffle initially showed up in ITunes and the Finder and behaved normally. Music was successfully uploaded and so on.
Now, the shuffle will not show up in either iTunes or the Finder. We have tried 3 different Macintosh computers and numerous USB ports. No change. We have tried 4 of the 5 "R's"s (you can't Restore if iTunes 7 doesn't see the iPod). No change.
The shuffle continues to play and behave normally in terms of music playback.
I am beginning to suspect the dock. Anyone else having problems with the 2nd gen shuffle's dock?
    Powerbook G4 1.67 Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Yes, we've checked in System Profiler. The iPod is
not recognized in the "Hardware" area of profiler.
NOT under the USB Device tree? This is what mine says for the 2nd USB port:
    iPod:
    Vendor Name: Apple
    Product ID: 4865 ($1301)
    Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
    Serial Number: 000A270010BE9315
    Bus Power (mA): 500
IF yours isn't shown...IT's NOT connected!
    As
for the charging question, that's difficult to
discern in the shuffle. Currently, when you turn the
shuffle on, the indicator light glows green for about
3 seconds then goes out. I take that to mean that
    shuffle is charged, correct?
Yep...but you're saying there's NO light on the Shuffle when connected to the dock which in turn is connected to a USB port? If that's true then the Dock and/or the USB controller in the Shuffle are malfunctioning.
