My Ipod can't turn off anymore

So yeah, i've had my ipod for about 8 months now, working great and all, but in the last 2 days it just can't seem to turn off. I'm holding the pause/play button like I did many times in the past, and now it's not working. Has this happened to anybody before? Please help.
Thanks

I have the same problem, the iPod just won't quite, and it is not playing, if I have the lock on and switch it off, it still shows that it is locked, i usually have to wait till the battery dies and the unit shuts itself off. Any suggestions. 30gig vid iPod - thnks

  • Cannot reset ipod, can't turn off, won't stay connected to computer

I have a 3rd gen classic ipod 20 gb - not color. I hadn't used it in a couple of months and i recently started using it again. It was connecting fine and it would charge fine and i could put music on it. A few days after using it again, it would no longer connect to my computer (windows). it would connect and then disconnect itself right away without giving itunes the chance to recognize it, over and over again. it also doesn't let me turn it off or pause, when i hit it, it goes back or forward to the next song. It's also tricky to hit the menu button to go back. sometimes it will work and sometimes it will not. also when i tap it on my desk like if i'm setting it down and it is off, it will turn on. i didn't drop it or put it in water that would cause it to manfunction suddenly. i have the newest version of itunes etc. i can't do the 5 r's or whatever because i can't reset the **** thing let alone update it. any ideas or am i totally s.o.l.?

First make sure your headphones are plugged all the way in, meaning no silver from the headphones plug can still be seen.
If that's not the issue, try a hard reset of the Nano.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

My 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off (=stops the music) when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black for power saving mode. Does anyone know how to solve this ?
I have already tried resetting, connecting to PC/iTunes to check the software version, turning off/on, I don't have any inspiration anymore.

    Hi VeerleD,
If your iPod touch unexpectedly powers off, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting (The steps apply for the iPod touch) -
    Specifically -
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Can't turn off my ipod

suddenly I can't turn off my ippod and it's new. I tried resetting and even restored it. Only can be turned of if connected to the computer. Can somebody help?
    Thanks

sounds like it needs a full reset.
i've seen this where the nano hangs ok 'OK TO DISCONNECT' too.
toggle the LOCK key (on top) to ON and then back to OFF again.
then hold down the middle button (in the middle of the click wheel) whilst also pressing the top MENU button.
hold for approx 5-10 seconds and a small APPLE logo should appear, thus reseting the ipod.
NOTE: This will not cause loss to any music files.
