Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?

  • ITunes slow once iPod is connected to computer

I just got an 80g video iPod for Christmas. I downloaded the latest version of iTunes and transferred all of the music from my library into iTunes. No problem. I connected my iPod, and it synced. Also no problem.
However, once the machines synced, iTunes became incredibly slow. When my iPod is not connected, iTunes works fine. But as soon as the iPod is connected, it operates horribly. Even when I try to "safely disconnect my iPod," iTunes does not respond. I have reset my iPod, restarted my computer, reinstalled iTunes, etc. What can I do to make iTunes function appropriately?

  • Yet Another Faulty iPod Classic - Connects to "computer" but not iTunes

In Oct 2009, I purchased 160GB Classic and is now out of warranty so unable to replace, and i am not too keen on buying another one (NZD $470 RRP).
It had been working as per normal until Dec 2010 when I tried to sync the iPod on newly updated iTunes (10.1) then it started to freeze during sync and now, it doesn't sync any longer. It is howing as "connected" on the iPod and in "My Computer", but doesn't show up in iTunes at all.
iTunes also freezes (doesn't work whatsoever) while my iPod is plugged in to my computer. I have tried everything that the "Apple" help sites suggest (the 5 "R's", formatting, disk mode etc) you name it, but to no avail.
Trying to fix this problem is becoming frustrating and time consuming. My wifes iPhone 4 works perfectly so I know it's not the computer or iTunes itself. As I (had) trust in Apple products, I would expect this to last for more than 15 months.
I have no idea how this all came to be, and would just like it to work as normal again. What a way for Apple to earn its' "money"...
PLEASE, if ANYONE can help here, it would be very much appreciated.

I purchased 4 x iPod Classic 160gb units between July 2008 and March 2009 (and a 120gb Classic with which we have not had a problem). One unit worked for one day and had to be returned and was replaced with a new unit. The other three all failed within the 12 month warranty period and were replaced by Apple. Of the four replacements, three have now failed about 15 months after they were replaced. Of course the units are outside warranty (in particular due to Apple only offering the greater of 3 months warranty or the remainder of the original warranty). The units haven’t been subjected to any forceful knocks and as demonstrated by the lack of physical marks on the units.
To have 7 out of 8 units fail in this timeframe is in my opinion indicative of a fundamental flaw in the build quality or design of the units. After putting my case to Apple Australia I finally received a reply confirming that the units were out of warranty and nothing could/would be done - but they did offer a "thank you gift" of a credit of up to $125 at the Apple Store if I spent at least $425.
I replied that this wasn’t satisfactory but took up the credit whilst it was offered to at least get some discount off a new 160gb Classic (more reliable I am led to believe!). I am now out of pocket over $770 with replacement three units and still have one remaining unit that could die at any time.
Apple is no longer replying to my emails. If anyone with similar experiences would like to join together to put pressure on Apple to make good, or pursue other actions via consumer affairs, please reply on this forum.

  • My Ipod says connect to computer to restore Ipod

I bought a new 80 GB video Ipod at the end of June. It worked fine for the first few months and I was really enjoying it. Then all of a sudden a screen came up that I have never seen before that says connect to computer to restore Ipod. I connect it to the computer and the computer doesn't recognize it as an Ipod. I thought at first it was because it wasn't charged but then I charged it and it still wouldn't make a difference. Now it won't do anything. I have tried everything that I can think of and what is listed on the website. Please can you help. I want to try and fix it without having to send it back because I currently live in China and it is very hard and expensive to send things back. Please help me figure it out.

Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? Have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if restoring doesn't work, it may be of some help: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore

  • Itunes freezes when ipod is connected to computer

Whenever I try to connect my ipod to my laptop my itunes will freeze up. I try opening my ipod using "my computer" but then that will freeze up as well. I'm trying to restore my ipod to see if that will help, but since my itunes freezes, it can't detect my ipod, therefore I can't restore it.
My ipod is set to where I have to manually put songs on it instead of it syncing automatically (unsure if this has anything to do with the problem?)
My itunes and ipod work perfectly by themselves, and I haven't had a problem with connecting my ipod to the computer until now. I can't figure out how to fix the problem. Help!
(I've also plugged my ipod into every usb port on the computer and it doesn't make a difference).

    so does mine

  • IPod will connect to computer but not to iTunes (I followed the apple website guide already)

My iPod touch 4th gen WILL connect to my computer but not iTunes. I ran the diagnostics in iTunes and Apple mobile service is running, iTunes is updated and iTunes says everything is ok EXCEPT it says there is no iPod connected, but my computer says it is.
The apple diagnostic is located under the "Help" tab in the "Run Diagnostics" button.
Everything is a green light and is ready to go, except the last diagnostic which says that I do not have an iPod connected. The problem here is that I do, It is also a new iPod and when I plug it in I hear the computer beep that signifies that an external device has been connected.
My sister also has this problem connecting to the same computer (the only computer with this problem).

    Have you tried everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    including:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

Every time I connect my iPod to my computer, it crashes my computer. I get the fatal blue screen of death. What, may I ask, is going on?

    MEE TOOO!!!!!
its really annoying me and not only is it crashing my computer but its corrupting it aswell when it crashes!!! i have a ipod touch and a ipod 30GB 5th gen nd the ipod touch i update regulaly and it syncs slowly but atleast it works - the other just crashes my computer and causes it to "dump phisical memory" and then turn off.

  • 3rd Gen 40GB iPod losing connection to computer

I have a 3rd Gen 40GB iPod that I have replaced the battery in (a long time ago) and it has been working fine for a long time. Recently, in the past month, I haven't been able to use my iPod because when I connect it to the computer via Firewire, the iPod loads and is mounted on the desktop, but then it disconnects itself from the computer. Thats followed by a "Device Removed Improperly" warning. If I fiddle around with the dock connector, I can get it to load again, but then the same thing happens.
Also, I cannot seem to get it to charge in my car anymore. If I fiddle around with the dock connector, it will start to charge then it will stop.
Does this sound like the dock connector issue?
Things I've tried - various firewire / USB2 ports and cables.
If it is a dock connector issue, is there a way to manually fix that by opening it up? Or must apple fix it?

having moved through the apple world of ipods and shuffles and phones and laptops, i have just found in moving my lovely 3rd gen (20?gb) ipod during our move. however i now have a macbook pro, and although my lovely 3rd gen ipod is playing and works, it is NOT syncing to my laptop. and i've discovered there are loads at itunes songs that i didn't back up and transfer through generations. so///
here's what happens (and i've done the reset of holding down the buttons until the apple appears).
nothing on my laptop. nothing. at all. but the ipod looks like it is receiving a charge... but it is not on seen on my desktop, not in itunes.
    help anyone? thanks.

I've tried installing itunes and updater but can't connect to the ipod (the drive does't show up in my computer).

    thanks,
i've tried the steps suggested in the above article, no joy though.
Is anyone familiar with the diagnostics mode for ipod (holding down previous and select when the apple logo appears on startup)
what should i be on the lookout for (i suspect it may be a partial or maybe complete HD failure?).
Once again, any help much appriciated.
