My ipod classic 120 gb is reboting during playback

When i push play, the playback begins, but after 3-20 seconds ipod reboots. How can i fix it?

Hey there,
Try restoring the iPod to see if that helps. Keep in mind that by restoring the iPod, it will erase all the music and files from your iPod. So make sure you have your music and such backed up on your computer before restoring your iPod. Instructions on how to restore your iPod can be found below. Hope it helps.

  • Ipod Classic 120 opens iTunes, is in My Computer, but NOT in iTunes

When I plug my iPod Classic 120 into the PC it opens iTunes automatically. It shows as an iPod in My Computer, BUT doesn't show in iTunes.
It doesn't show the Syncing Circle when I plug it in.
The screen just changes to 'Connected'
I also get a Caution bubble in the taskbar
    Here is the other photo
I followed all the recommended options I saw posted including uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes.
It also locks up when I eject, and freezes up the PC as well.Stays on 'OK to Disconnect' for a while, not the way it always was.
Its getting to be a real pain!
    Any help??
    Please email me [email protected]
    Thx

Did you put it on your ipod?

  • I have an ipod classic 120 gb. I had music on my ipod that I had gotten from other people's itunes libraries by changing my settings to manually sync my ipod. However, twice I have had my ipod plugged into my mac and it completely erased everything

I have an ipod classic 120 gb. I had it set up so that I manually sync and manage my music. Twice I have had my ipod plugged into my mac and it had erased everything on my ipod. All the music on my itunes was still in my library, but all the other music was lost. I understand that I need to go back to the other libraries I got that music from, but how do I make sure that my ipod doesn't keep syncing and erasing itself? Also, now every five minutes a message will pop up on my itunes saying that it cannot sync because of an unknown error and then it has the number 13014. I have no idea what that is about. Does anyone else go through this? How do I fix it?

Well the iPod is supposed to be synced from YOUR iTunes music library, if you used other means to put music on there then the iPod is going to sync to only what's on your itunes music library when you connect it.
You need to put the files into itunes.
Far as your other issues, sounds like the drive is dying.

  • Newest version of universal dock appears to be incompatible with my ipod Classic 120 gb.  Remote does nothing

I purchased from Apple, a new universal dock with remote (MC746LL/A) along with the proper dock adapter for my ipod Classic 120.  According to Apple the dock works with any ipod with a dock and adapter..  The remote does absolutely nothing despite a brand new battery.  The only reason I purchased this pricey accessory was to have an additional ipod station with a remote.  I could have saved a ton of money if I didn't care about a sensor on front of the unit.  Any thoughts.

You are in exactly the same boat as I. I have the same problem. I posted a query on this forum too but no help came forth. Looks like Apple could be blocking replies to iPod Classic issues since it withdrew the product. Amazing company. But incase anyone can still access this query, please help. It will help two customers of Apple if not more.
    Awaiting help !!

  • My ipod classic 120 wont respond and the screen is frozen

my ipod classic 120 wont respond and the screen  is frozen

    Hello Charles,
What happens if you try to do a hard reset?  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may or may not work the first time around so be sure to attempt this at least a minimum of three times.
If the iPod remains frozen, let the iPod's battery drain completely, but attempting to recharge the iPod.

  • IPod Classic 120 stuck

My iPod classic 120 is stuck in a reboot cycle and will not start. What should I do??

If all else fails to sort out the iPod, wait for the battery to drain down fully. When it does, wait for a further hour or so, to make sure it is fully drained.
Then you can plug it into power. At first, it will appear that nothing is happening, but it is and after about thirty minutes or so, the screen should light up. Hopefully, after it's fully re-charged, the iPod should work okay.
    What happens?
    Phil

  • Does the Ipod Classic 120 GB still connect to itunes? Because mine will not show up at all in itunes!

My Ipod classic will not show up in itunes at all but it says its charging and that it is connected to the computer! I have my itunes updated fully and it still does not work! So i am thinking that maybe its not able to connect anymore because of the new usb connecters or the version of itunes! But i dont know so i really hope i can get this resolved!

    Hello Riio312,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes.  I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
If Windows recognizes your iPod but iTunes does not, follow the steps in this article:
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

  • IPod Classic 120 gb won't restore by any means

Hi, so I was syncing my ipod like I do on a regular basis, then all of as sudden it freezes, reboots and shows no music or anything. In fact it shows 0kb free out of 0kb. I've done extensive research on the matter trying to restore. Here are the things I have done (PC user):
    -Hard reset of the ipod
-Attempt to restore via iTunes both normal and in Disk mode. This fails, as it says that the operation was done successfully and that I need to wait for my ipod to reboot, however it never reboots, so when it is unplugged again it reboots itself showing the same problem.
-I also formatted the disk, both quick format and the full one. I've even used third party software for this.
-I changed the drive letter to another one.
-Finally since Windows didn't seem to work, I tried to format the drive on a Mac to MS-DOS however I got a input/output error.
Having said that, I've also read that a format to Mac Plus and then to ms-dos might work. Is it worth the shot?
Or drain the battery, wait for a couple of days and try the whole process again (this was another thing that I haven't done).
Finally as a last resource I found a third party firmware, with which my ipod works. I am not into this, however is the only thing that has worked, since everything I've done hasn't.
I've read that at this point I should give up because the hard drive is most likely dead, however my Disk diagnostic shows the following results, which I believe have no sign of being fried:
    Retracts: 556
    Reallocs: 33
    Pending sectors: 0
    PowerOn Hours: 413
    Start/Stops: 51
    Temp: Current 23C
    Temp: Min 16C
    Temp: Max 46C
Thank you in advance for any help provided

The stats look fine. Try the DFU Restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic. It may pay to disable any anti-virus software and use the staged transfer method to reload data, assuming you get that far.

  • Trouble with artwork on iPod Classic 120 gig

I know that in previous version of iTunes, the solution to corrupted artwork files has been to deselect the "include artwork" option (or something like that) in Music...however, the latest incarnation of iTunes doesn't allow for this. I've tried resetting, rebooting, etc. the iPod three times.
Help, anyone? Thanks...appreciate it a lot.

  • Ipod classic 120 going in to a reboot  when trying to sync

My Ipod classic 120gb often goes in to a reboot after a sync - get apple logo then main menu when it tries disconnecting
If I plug it back in its fine
Can anyone advise as to what may be going on?

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”

  • Ipod Classic 160GB crashes and reboots during Video playback :S

I recently brought a film on itunes and have watched it on my computer and it works fine, i have also tested its playback on 4 other video ipods but when i try to watch it on my ipod classic it crashes and reboots after about 20 minutes, however i can click the select button and get past the crashing point and the film plays fine. Can anybody help? i also have 4 other films on there that work fine its just this certain point on the movie.
My ipod is an ipod classic 160GB bought on the 14th January 2011

just wondering if you were using Vista ( Nvidia drivers) with SATA drives. I have the same problem as you and i thought it was a problem with my ipod touch. My friend has an ipod touch as well and i tried to copy the file to his ipod and the same problem occurred. played for about 10 minutes and crashed both ipods, sometimes back to menu other times reboots to apple symbol.
I Copied the same file to my ipod classic and there were no problems. played perfectly on my other ipod. I tried 3 other files and same thing happened everytime. I cant get any video files to play without rebooting the ipod touch.
I then copied the same files to my laptop with an IDE hard drive running XP and it works perfectly.
Dont know why or how i can fix the problem but i now only transfer video files on my laptop instead of my brand new super fast Vista PC. could be the PC is trying to transfer files too quickly and they become corrupted somehow. Its very annoying but the workaround works until a solution is found.
    hope this helps

  • Sincing ipod classic 120 gig with i tunes

I've been trying to update a new 120 gig classic with my i tunes library but i keep getting the message that i tunes 8 has to be donwloaded. when i try to download version 8, i get the message that a windows installer package programme that is required couldn't be found.
    can anyone help ?

If it's a one-time "glitch," you can try restarting your computer with the iPod still connected.  Try ejecting again after the restart.
If the problem recurs, you may have a process running (other than iTunes) that is accessing the iPod's storage.  When connected, the iPod's "disk" is like other mounted volumes.  This process may be some type of utility that continously monitors your mounted volumes for security reasons, such as to prevent access by malware.
If you know of such a program that you have running in the background, there may be a setting to exclude your iPod's disk.

  • Sync issues iTunes 10 and iPod Classic 120 gb on Windows Vista

I a have repeatly attempted to move Purchases to and from my ipod after reinstalling OS and upgrading iTunes to version 10. I get the "verifying iPod" then it shows the items to transferand, when it says "transfering(item name)" nothing happens. I get the syncing arows spinning this can go on for hours with no change. the last time I tryed. when I ejected the iPod I eventually got a message saying unknown os issue error -69

The same thing happened to my iPod. It shows that it has no songs, but when i checked the iPod's memory, it was using the same amount of space as before (i had 52 gb of music, now it's just 52 gb of... nothing).
