My ipod classic 160GB freezes after a minute whenever I lock it.

If I unlock it, the song begins to play again. Does this happen to anyone?

Does the iPod screen shows the Charging icon, when you charge it?
if not, try the Reset
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
Then release the buttons
Select your preferred language.
Charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)

  • IPod classic 160GB freezing when plugged in

    Hi,
My new iPod classic started freezing when plugge in after the night, for example - it needs a restore, then works fine. Any ideas?
    Thank you for your help

Yikes!, it may means it is the iPod Classic firmware 2.0.4, that is hanging up the USB Host controller, which freezes your whole Computer.
Could be a partially updated firmware 2.0.4, (so kind of corrupted)
    Can you
    1. Open in finder <yourname>/Library/iTunes/iPod Software Updates/
    2. Remove the .ipsw and .ipsw.signature for the version you are wanting to drop, in this case, 2.0.4
    3. Open iTunes and in Preferences uncheck automatic check for updates.
    4. Connect iPod and select restore. It will ask you if you want to check for newer update. Select Yes. All files will be removed and it will have to resync the entire library but it worked.
PS: try and do this in Diskmode.

  • Ipod classic 30 freezes after playing approximately 35-40 songs.  ipod will not function again until you reset it.  does not happen on any one particular song.  also happens on my wife's classic.  we do not use the same computer to sync either.  any ideas

I finally resolved my problem after spending way too much time on it. I simply handed my 160GB iPod to my husband to put his fav Stones & Beatles songs on and I went back to my 80GB Microsoft Zune which has never disappointed me.
After spending so much time trying to figure this out I did finally take it back to Apple Store who performed a diagnostic and found there was a problem with the device. They replaced it with a refurbished one which has similar issues. All I wanted to do was listen to my music. Was that too much to ask? So I am happy to be free of this problematic device. No more Apple for me!!

  • My ipod classic 160gb will be playing fine then it sometimes freezes up or start shuffling through the songs not playing at all. After i reset it works ok for a while then same thing. Bought this so i could control through my steering wheel/radio.

I sure hope someone can help me with these ipod classic 160gb issues.
My ipod classic 160gb will be playing fine and then freeze up (unable to move around in it at all) and i have to reset it. This happens constantly whether in my car or when i listen at work. After i reset it works ok for a while then eventually requires another reset.
Another problem is that it will be playing fine and then start shuffling through songs without playing them. The songs that get shuffled work fine in the itunes program but not on the device. A reset does not correct the problem with these particular songs.
Also, sometimes when it is working and not freezing up or shuffling through, it will appear that a song is playing (in fact it says "now playing"), the song titlte is scrolling, but the song progression bar does not move. The count up in front of the bar stays at 0:00, and the count down at the end of the bar stays at the song length minutes not counting down. After I reset, it works fine and all the songs will play.
The reason I got this thing was because i can control it through my steering wheel/radio while i'm driving. I previously had a Zune 80gb which i'm glad I held on to. I have over 6600 songs (so I'm obviously a serious music listener and obviously frustrated), but only about 10 songs were downloaded through itunes, the rest I either ripped or downloaded from other site. From what i've been reading it sounds like there's a lot of ipod owners out there experiencing similar problems. Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve these issues for me and everyone else? I got my first iphone 8 months ago, then the ipod and was considering an ipad. But in light of my ipod issues.....
I hope someone can help me and convince me it wasn't a mistake to go Apple! Thanks!!

  • IPod Classic 160GB skipping songs after a few minutes play

I've got an annoying problem with my iPod Classic 160GB.  It gets to about 3 minutes or so into a song (sometimes more sometimes less then just skips to the next one.  It's about a couple of years old (I got it as a replacement when the battery of my 120GB Classic failed) and has been excellent.
It doesn't just do it when I'm walking along - I've put it on my desk now for experimental purposes and it's the same thing.  They all play fine in iTunes.
Most of my iTunes recordings are now Apple Lossless - the lower bitrate songs and podcasts seem to play through fine.  I've hard-reset and restored the machine.
I have heard some noises coming from the hard disc - could the HDD be failing?  Very disappointed if so - and what else can be done short of converting my large iTunes library to a lower bitrate?  But that defeats the object of having the Classic's high capacity which is the ability to store and play higher quality recordings. It never did this in the past - nor on my original 120GB

I've done the iPod diagnostic tests on the HDD (select-menu then select-back) and it comes up with no errors or bad sectors.  Hmm

  • My ipod classic 160gb has frozen. Any ideas how to un-freeze

My ipod classic 160gb has frozen. Can anyone help me to un-freeze it?

    alan,
Try a hard reset.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may take one or two tries.
Otherwise, it might be necessary to let the iPod's battery fully drain.

Ever since the newest update from iTunes came out every time I connect my 160GB iPod Classic, iTunes freezes and I have to force quit. What can I do for this?

Ive tried every routine and step to get it working and it will not Work, Ive tried Resetting it everytime I reset it the only thing it will do is Display the APPLE sign intill the Ipod Dies. • IPod Classic 160GB won't update after sync

    Hey,
My iPod Classic 160GB, latest gen., doesn't want to update the library for some reason.
It does 'sync' but nothing gets copied from my MBP to the iPod.
I tried restarting iTunes as well as my iPod, but nothing seems to help.
I thought about resetting/restoring the iPod, but since I've got a library with about 130GB of data, that's not the most pleasing task.
Any ideas for what could be the reason for this problem? Anything else I could try first, before resetting or restoring or whatever?
    Thanks in advance.

    This solved it for me:
Right click 'Computer' then click 'properties'
    From there click on 'devices'
For me the ipod showed up in the list but it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it (you may have expand the option 'disk drives' to see it)
Next you right click on the ipod and 'uninstall' the driver.
After it's done that it should automatically reinstall it, or you can hit 'update driver software'
My ipod then showed up in devices &, more importantly, synced with the new itunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't sync iPod classic 160GB

I recently purchased an iPod classic 160GB. I am running Windows XP with SP2,
iTunes 7.4.3.1, QuickTime 7.2 (I am hesitant to install iTunes 7.5 due to known problems with QuickTime 7.3). I had to go to my local Apple Store to get the latest iPod Software Update installed (56.6 MB is pretty huge; this Update for my iPod video was only 6.2 MB).
Problem Number 1: iTunes cannot successfully download an iPod Software Update (1.0.2) if the download has been Paused and then Resumed; iTunes loses track of the size of the module it was working on. (If there are buttons in the application to pause and resume the download, they should work correctly.) (This happens with both the iPod classic and the iPod Video.)
Problem Number 2: I cannot successfully sync my Music Library (40GB) with my iPod classic. I actually got to listen to a song after 4 days of trying to perform this download (only 800 MB of my music made it into the iPod successfully.) iTunes froze up when the iPod was first attached and also while trying to perform the sync. (I also have and iPod Video (30GB) and it works fine although a little slow.) The Genius at my Apple Store was able to load the iPod successfully using one of their BootCamp machines since my Music Library resides on an external hard disk. (And it only took 4 hours of work to get this far.)
Device Manager in Windows also shows an additional driver (iPod Driver) in the USB section with the iPod classic attached (it is not shown when using the iPod video). Both iPods show as Drive J: in the My Computer window.
Note to Apple Management: When a customer pays $250 to $350 for and iPod, the customer has heightened expectation levels, especially if he/she has had success with prior successful products. Especially since the classic is the 6th generation machine. Please get on this Apple!!!!!

I solved my problem!! I just loaded my iPod classic 160GB with 40GB of music and one video file.
I upgraded to iTune 7.5.0.20 and iPod Software 1.0.2 with no major ill effects. (I had to install iTunes 7.5 a second time because it told me to.) Windows XP is at SP 2 level and appears to be fine.
I tried using msconfig to stop initally loading anything except iTunesHelper and qttask. Nothing major broken yet. This is good news.
I tried loading over one album at a time (Using the Manual button in the options) and iTunes started freezing up at weird places (but it usually came back after a while.)
So I set the iPod into Disk Mode and I went to the Summary screen and only checked the "Enable Disk Use" box. (The top box was already checked.)
I Clicked on the Music tab and chose Sync Music and All songs and playlists (I would suggest you try something less to test this; my whole list took almost 12 hours to copy over. But I'm running with 1.1 USB ports). It ran very smoothly and iTunes only got fussy when I asked it to eject the iPod, but it eventually did it.
After it said I could disconnect, I got the iPod out of Disk Mode by using Menu/Center buttons and presto, it was up and working. All my playlist present and accounted for.
It'll take me a couple of days to find any problems (I have 31 days of music to listen to), but it's looking good.
Thank you to all who have listened to my problems and provided help!!
Apple has managed to keep this customer.

  • Error -50 & -69 When trying to sync music Ipod Classic 160gb

    Hi everybody,
I recently installed an x64 version of Windows 7 Ultimate. I have an Ipod Classic 160gb (late 2009), and i am trying to sync it to my itunes library. However, everytime i do so, it will copy across a few songs (a different number everytime, no more than 500 though) my Itunes freezes up (as well as the ipod). After a while, once it "comes back to life" i get either "Itunes cannot copy {Song Name} to {Ipod Name} Ipod. An unknown Error Occurred (-50)." or "Itunes cannot copy {Song Name} to {Ipod Name} Ipod. An unknown Error Occurred (-69)".
Here is what i have tried:
Enable Disc Use - No Luck
Uninstall / Reinstall Itunes + Rebuild of Library - No Luck
Uninstall Itunes, reinstall + Rebuild Library on Previous version (9.2) of Itunes - No Luck
Kill APSDaemon.exe While synching - No Luck
KIll all other Apple Services + Processes - No Luck
    Uninstall Antivirus - No Luck
    Reformat Ipod - No Luck
Create a Virtual x32 environment of Windows 7, and recreate my library using the latest Itunes - No Luck
Virtualize a Mac environment, and try on there - MAC OSX doesn't allow virtualization on a Windows "Base" (what a piece of ****) - SO, no luck
Media Monkey Transfer - freezes up like a dead body, then just crashes.
Manually transfer - Work sometimes, doesn't work otherimes. Seems to be Random.
I know you are all going to say "oh, the song it get stuck on is corrupt". Well, it isn't. The song plays fine in Itunes if i go to investigate. When i go to my music "source" it is an actuall file, with an actual file size. I can also play it with VLC media player as well.
Sync with my Dad's IMAC - Success. My Dad has 5.5gb of music (more than 500 songs). Although Ipod did get seem to get stuck on a couple of songs, it succesfully sync'ed
Use Sharepod - Success (although, i have 2940 folders, and sharepod will only allow me to transfer one folder at a time) - So, No Luck
I know the Ipod is fine because if i Sync via MAC or Sharepod, it will play music fine. Also, before the installation of the x64, it sync'd fine. It would be silly that an Ipod dies because i change my Windows Installation.
Another thing, while in the act of Synching, the IPOD screen displays "Synchronising", then, it will just go to "Connected". On the MAC it stayed as "Synchronising" the entire time.
Basically, i am at my wits end. I have tried everything i can think of.  I now have a very expensive paper weight, which is ******** me to tears.
If anybody has any solutions, or ideas, i would love to hear them.
    Thanks,
    Lachlan

You seem to have tried everything, and you say it's syncing fine on your Dad's iMac, so I assume, you have also  done a Disk Diagnostic from an earlier post by tt2 and conclude that your iPod Hardisk is good.
You don't have to use it as a heavy paperweight, the problem is only using your Windows 7 machine for syncing.
In your troubleshooting steps, did you try to use another High-Speed USB 2.0 port, USB controller resource are very scarce, so if you use other USB devices, while syncing your iPod, it may just freeze.
Windows have a bad reputation for device conflict, so better don't connect other  USB devices, while syncing, better sync it while disconnected from Internet, stop antivirus just before you go to bed.
    Have a nice day!

  • IPod Classic 160GB not recognized by iTunes

I have an iPod Classic 160GB in version 2.0.4 that is not recognized by itunes.
It's about 2 years old and had presented a few problems with sincying in the past, but I hadn't tried to sync it for a while.
I've transfered all the music from my Windows PC to my Mac, and the iPod was Windows formated.
It started presenting a problem to transfer all my music content from iTunes (Mac) to the iPod, but after severel hours, it only transfered a few hundreded. I've tried it several times.
So, I tried to restore it, both in Windows and Mac PCs, but the problem persisted. A hard reset didn't solve it either.
But now I have a bigger problem. The iPod is not recognized by the iTunes anymore, and the program freezes anytime I try to connect ir. As soon as it is disconnected, everything is back to normal. But the Ipod always reboots.
It is recognized in the desktop tough.
Here's what I've already tried unsuccesfully:
    1. Hard Reset.
    2. Put it in disk mode. Still not recognized.
    3. Use Disk Utility. The disk verification says everything is in order. I've erased all content as well as format it in Mas OS Extended (Journaled). Later I've tried to erase it again but now displays a message error saying it cannot unmount the disk.
    4. Used differente USB ports.
    5. Saw all Apple support solutions. None worked.
    6. Researched a whole bunch of forums, including this one. Noticed a lot of people with the same problem, but had difficulty finding one more recent, so I decided to open a new discussion.
I would really appreciate any suggestions.
    Ipod Classic 160GB (2.0.4)
    Itunes (10.6)
    Mac OS Snow Leopard.
    Windows XP.

It seems to be working now. Amazing!
I would like to thank you both for the help, CaliforniaHighwaysGuy and AncientMumu.
Here's what I did. I wasn't getting folder acces from my Windows XP because it was Macintosh formated.
So I connected it again to the Mac and used an online tutorial to be able to access the hidden files through Terminal. (I'm not sure if it's allowed to post links to tutorials from other sites, but I'll look into the rules and post, if possible).
Had to relaunch FInder a few times as it stopped responding from time to time. Went to iPod_Control > iTunes and erased all the files.
Disconnected the iPod, as it was still not recognized by iTunes (10.6).
Connected it to my Windows, wich has the 10.4 version of iTunes. Restored (Windows format) it and disconnected.
Went back to the Mac, and it was recognized. I Didn't restore it.
I've already transfered one album and it synced just fine. (One of the problems I was having is that the music transfer was really slow).
Already reconnected the iPod and it was once again recognized after a few seconds.
I really appreciate all the help.
I'll try to updated this post in a few days saying if it's still working properly.

  • ITunes Refuses to Eject My iPod Classic 160GB

I purchased one of the newest iPod Classic 160GB models and while it originally connected great when I connected to iTunes, now, iTunes absolutely refuses to eject my iPod everytime I connect.
I have to eject my iPod through Windows Explorer and this happens everytime I connect it to my computer. Does anyone have a fix for this?

My computer is running  Windows 7 Pro SP1 with all updates and I do not see anything in that article other than perhaps uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes that helps.  I do not have any third party apps related to Apple.  I do have one or two third party applications that work with Microsoft Office products and they were installed long before iTunes stopped working, so I do not believe that they have anything to do with iTunes's problems.
I have verified that there are no third party apps working with iTunes. ITunes only freezes when I attempt to disconnect the ipod. It d

If I uninstall this current version of iTunes, I do not want to lose any of my playlists, including those created by Genius.  Do I have to do anything in particular to ensure that this information is preserved so that I can restore it after a reinstall?

  • IPod Classic 160Gb - Skipping issues

    Hi all,
Recently I have updated my iPod Classic 160gb to the new version.
    I have noticed the following:
When I push >>| (next) button to go to the next track, the next track sometimes
will start playing in the middle of that song!
All my songs are mp3, I don't know that their bitrate (192, 384 or vbr, ...)
I only noticed this behavior yesterday.
    Has anyone noticed this too?
Is there a solution for it?
I only have 4400 songs on it ....

The issues are real. A thread that had over 100 posts about itunes and the classic ipod freezing has been locked and no one can post anything more. Just to post what I have already posted:
I have a new 160 gb Silver model. The ipod and itunes frezes after it is recognized by itunes. Itunes freezes half way through the sync process when only sycning one album. It will freeze for 80 seconds and then the rest of the songs will sync. It will then freeze up again for 80 seconds, and then after all the songs are synced, it will freeze one more time before I have full use. I have tried 2 160gb ipods, I've restored and added a library. I have bought a new computer from a previous XP. My new Vista operating syatem does the exact same thing. Tech support is clueless and cannot add anything to why this is happening. I have the latest version of itunes and the latest software version for the ipod.
