My Ipod Classic (160GB) no longer connects to itunes.

Over the past week, after no previous issues, syncing my ipod to itunes proved difficult. Ipod is less than 12 months old and will try to have replaced but would like to see if there is a "fix" first
Actions to date:
1. unable to sync music (various songs/ablums - never the same twice)
2. re-installed itunes (3x)
3. Ipod not syncing to itunes
4. stopped/restarted Ipod services
5. changes usb cables (tested with Iphones - all work)
6. followed Itunes support advice pages
but still nothing
Any advice would be appreciated before I use the ipod as a skimming stone in the nearest lake
Regards
Andy

Read this Apple Support Article on Restoring iPod.
It is on step 6.
Restore would reformat your iPod Hardisk, if it is still in good condition, but some iPod Hardisk may be damage, due to abuse and misuse, so the Restore would fail.
For a successful Restore, I would also suggest that
Disconnect all other USB devices
Use the USB2.0 port
Do not use any USB Hub.

  • My iPod classic (160gb) won't connect to iTunes I've tried all the updates (using an 07 MacBook I believe) and it keeps saying it needs snow leapord

I just bought it and it won't work! I did all the updates but it's saying I need snow leopard? Please help!!

    HI there,
Snow Leopard is going to be a paid update that you will need to order form the Apple Online Store. Before upgrading, it is always a good idea to have a backup of your information. The article below has more information about backing up.

A few days ago i small piece of plastic got stuck and subsequently fell out the charger hole of my ipod classic, although it still connects to itunes and syncs itunes says it has synced but there is nothing on my ipod! I have done this a few times and nothing seems to work! HELP! :/

Transfer all of your content to the computer:
Tunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
Then try turning the device off and on again. I'd leave it off for 10-15 minutes, but that is up to you:

If the item is still there, you may need to restore the device:

Hope that helps . Worst case scenario, you may need to write into iTunes support to see if they can also help!!

I'm unable to access content on my iPod Classic while it is connected to iTunes.
The iPod itself shows up and is set to manual management, but I am unable to view or play any of the content on it (music, movies, podcasts etc.).
I can click the tabs Music, Movies etc. but I can't see anywhere to access the files themselves, no music or movies are listed, I only have the option to 'Sync' with the iTunes, which I don't want to do as there is no content on the iTunes!!!
I just downloaded the iTunes program.
    Very confused, pleaseee help ...

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

  • I have a new iPod Classic 160Gb.  i have an iTunes Account, it recognizes my device but will not sync my library of music to my new iPod.  What do I need to do?

I have a new ipod Classic 160GB.  I already have an Itunes account.  The Itunes account recognizes my device but will not sync my library to this new device.
What do I need to do?

    Hi Amy2250,
Have you tried to sync music to the iPod via the iPod subdirectory of iTunes? To do this, plug your iPod into your computer, go into iTunes, click on the iPod tab, click on 'Music' in the iPod subdirectory and select whether you want to sync your whole iTunes library or just selected songs and press sync.
Alternatively, have you tried manually transferring music onto the iPod using the 'drag and drop' method? To do that, go into iTunes with your iPod connected, click on the iPod tab, in the iTunes iPod Classic subdirectory click on the 'Summary' tab, then tick the box saying 'Manually manage music' and click save. Then, in the same subdirectory click on the 'On this iPod' tab and click on Music. Then, select the songs you want to transfer either in Finder or Windows Explorer, select the songs you want to copy to the iPod and drag them to the blank list in the 'On this iPod' area of iTunes you just opened.
    Good luck,
    stefanrandomly

  • Does the Ipod Classic 120 GB still connect to itunes? Because mine will not show up at all in itunes!

My Ipod classic will not show up in itunes at all but it says its charging and that it is connected to the computer! I have my itunes updated fully and it still does not work! So i am thinking that maybe its not able to connect anymore because of the new usb connecters or the version of itunes! But i dont know so i really hope i can get this resolved!

    Hello Riio312,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes.  I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:
iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1369
If Windows recognizes your iPod but iTunes does not, follow the steps in this article:
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
    Best,

  • TS1363 iPod Classic 160gb will not connect to Macbook.

My iPod classic will not connect to my macbook. It is recognized by my wall charger, speakers, and FM transmitter in my car. I've had this trouble for some time, but before I attributed to my previous Macbook which had a few other problems. However I just got a new macbook, and it is still not coming up in Finder nor iTunes. Any advice is much appreciated!

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac?  Have you tried another USB cable just in case?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?

  • IPod Classic 160gb No longer Syncs

I've had my iPod classic for about 2 years now and have had no problems other than a few issues with displaying the correct album artwork.
Two days ago, my iPod started to fail syncs, with a variety of error messages, including error 53, error 1392, claimed as corrupted and unreadable, claimed as being unable to be found, and claimed as having duplicate file names. It will sync up to a certain point and then dump two to four error messages on me, with no pattern I can discern.
I have tried restarting my computer, restoring my iPod, letting windows 'fix the errors on my drive', and reinstalling iTunes, as well as manually loading my songs onto my iPod and turning off Windows UAC, all in a variety of orders.
Stranger still, the syncing process will leave about 1500 songs on my iPod, out of my library of over 10,000, with no pattern I can discern.
I would be very thankful for any help.

ok, when i convert a video .mpg file into .mp4...then Sync it into ipod.it goes into my VIDEOS folder on ipod. but when i play the video...
visuals appear, clip plays...but no sound. why is this?
Quicktime or Quicktime Pro (which iTunes uses) don't convert "muxed" ( muxed means multiplexed where the audio and video are stored on the same track) video files properly. It only plays the video and not the audio.
See:iPod plays video but not audio.
You need a 3rd party converter to convert the file with both audio and video.
See this for help: Guide to converting video for iPod (Mac/Windows).

  • My ipod classic 120gb won't connect to itunes.

I have tried everything and my ipod will not connect to itunes. I installed the newest version of itunes on my macbook air, then I restarted it. When I connect my ipod, the screen shows that it is connected and charged, and my ipod is showing up in the finder.  Itunes shows the little spinning ball for about 30 sec, but when that is over nothing happens. How can I get my ipod to sync with itunes? This is a new computer and I have never tried connecting my ipod before today, but about a month ago I tried connecting my ipod to a different mac and I had the same problem. Could the problem be that newer versions of  itunes and my ipod are not compatible?

You iPod looks ok, except for the Pending Sector of 8,  and the high Start Stop numbers.
What is the iPod Software as shown in the Itunes summary page in your Mac?
    My Suggestions
Try the Hard Reset first, it worked for some people,
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Disconnect the iPod from the Mac
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Then try to connect and see it iTunes recognised it.
Also note that when you sync an iPod, do connect it directly to the body of the Mac, and not via any USB Hub or the keyboard USB hub. Also do not use any other USB devices.
    Good Luck!

  • My iPod Classic 160GB is not recognised on iTunes - it says that there is no iPod found? When its plugged in! Please help

iPod classic is not recognised on iTunes. My iPod screen is flickereing constantly - from upside down to the right way around. It wont even show up on my iTunes. I plug it in to my MacBook and it gives me the option to restore but then once Ive clicked it says that 'it cannot be restored as there is no iPod found' when it connected and it says so on my iPod screen. Please help! Thanks J

Tried resetting the ipod and its enabled to be used as hard disk on itunes.
I assume you mean the "Enable Disk Use" option is enabled from under the iPod's Summary tab?

  • IPod Classic's screen when connecting to ITunes

With my IPod Classic 80GB with displying time on the menu, when connecting(Syncing) to ITunes, where time was displyed on the top grey line like 8:20PM for example, it turns into a meaningless letter 'P'.
If the time is like 8:20AM, no such letter will appear on this grey line.
Is this for everyone's ipod classics? Or only mines stuffed.
No fault on its functions, but curious if this is just a stuff up by Apple.
    Your yes/no is much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm seeing the same here, too. Letter "P" on top of the screen when connected to iTunes.
I will see if turning off the clock in the display or switching to 24hour time works. Hadn't noticed if connected in the AM makes a difference since I usually synch up at night in the PM.
The iPod seems to operate just fine otherwise.

  • New Ipod Classic 160Gb not recognising songs in Itunes library

I have just purchased a new Ipod Classic. There are 800 songs in my Itunes library that are not syncing to the new Ipod. There were no problems with my old Ipod 5th Gen.
The songs that are not syncing are songs that I have loaded into Itunes from my own CDs.
Does anybody know why or how to fix this problem.
I am not manually syncing, I have told Itunes that I want to sync all songs with this new Ipod.

This is Apple's brilliant new marketing scheme: we'll make all our new iPods NON compatible with older OSX's - then, oh my god! People will be forced to pay for an OS upgrade. Just another example of how Apple loooves to wow us with their sleek functioning products, then hit a us with a curveball (machines die the day your warranty is up, items not compatible) and hope we will still be wowed by their products. My iPod died after a hearty 2 years of service (NOT long enough after having spent $300 on it), I go out to buy a new itouch, and what do you know - not compatible with my itunes. Now cannot get my 5000 songs onto my portable music player. Wish I could use a Zune.

  • Ipod Classic 4th generation - no connection to Itunes latest version

So I updated Itunes to the lastest version and like many others I am not able to connect with my Ipod classic 4th generation.  Tried the suggested fixes, disk mode, re-install Itunes, etc without success.  Any ideas to restore?

You have probably ruled out a problem with the USB connection, so the remaining possibilities are faulty USB cable and a problem on the shuffle.
There are separate connection points for data and power, so it is possible for the shuffle to charge, while not being able to connect to sync data.  If the shuffle's light did any blinking at all, there is a data connection.  But since it never blinks, the shuffle seems to only see the connection for power, not data.
To rule out a faulty USB cable, you'll need to try your shuffle with another USB cable or use the cable you have with another shuffle.  If you can't do that with what you have, and there is an Apple Store nearby, you may want to make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar (the store's tech support).  Take your shuffle there, along with your USB cable.
If you can rule out the USB connection and the USB cable as causes, the problem is likely to be on the shuffle.  It may be related to the headphones jack, or the logic board.  NOTE:  If it has been less than one year since the purchase date, it is under warranty.

  • TS3218 Syncing my 6th generation Ipod Classic 160gb, I get messages saying itunes could not copy songs to the ipod; (code -50) the reason. What must I do to correct this error, please?

Syncing my 6th generation Ipod Classic, I get loads of the same message, "Itunes could not copy songs into ipod due to error -50". The syncing then completes with only 15gb used space and 143 gb space free.
What can I do to correct this error, please?
