HI there,
Snow Leopard is going to be a paid update that you will need to order form the Apple Online Store. Before upgrading, it is always a good idea to have a backup of your information. The article below has more information about backing up.

  • IPod Classic 160GB won't update after sync

    Hey,
My iPod Classic 160GB, latest gen., doesn't want to update the library for some reason.
It does 'sync' but nothing gets copied from my MBP to the iPod.
I tried restarting iTunes as well as my iPod, but nothing seems to help.
I thought about resetting/restoring the iPod, but since I've got a library with about 130GB of data, that's not the most pleasing task.
Any ideas for what could be the reason for this problem? Anything else I could try first, before resetting or restoring or whatever?
    Thanks in advance.

    This solved it for me:
Right click 'Computer' then click 'properties'
    From there click on 'devices'
For me the ipod showed up in the list but it had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it (you may have expand the option 'disk drives' to see it)
Next you right click on the ipod and 'uninstall' the driver.
After it's done that it should automatically reinstall it, or you can hit 'update driver software'
My ipod then showed up in devices &, more importantly, synced with the new itunes.
    Hope this helps.

  • IPod Classic 160gb won't sync a song?

My ipod classic 160gb wont sync a song, it just says this song wont play on this ipod. Is there anyway I can fix it? Or make it sync? Or something?

    Hello danmic1,
What format is this song in?  Have you tried converting it to another format via iTunes and then syncing the new version over to your iPod?  See this article for more information on converting your track to a different audio file format in iTunes.

  • My ipod classic 120gb won't connect to itunes.

I have tried everything and my ipod will not connect to itunes. I installed the newest version of itunes on my macbook air, then I restarted it. When I connect my ipod, the screen shows that it is connected and charged, and my ipod is showing up in the finder.  Itunes shows the little spinning ball for about 30 sec, but when that is over nothing happens. How can I get my ipod to sync with itunes? This is a new computer and I have never tried connecting my ipod before today, but about a month ago I tried connecting my ipod to a different mac and I had the same problem. Could the problem be that newer versions of  itunes and my ipod are not compatible?

You iPod looks ok, except for the Pending Sector of 8,  and the high Start Stop numbers.
What is the iPod Software as shown in the Itunes summary page in your Mac?
    My Suggestions
Try the Hard Reset first, it worked for some people,
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Disconnect the iPod from the Mac
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Then try to connect and see it iTunes recognised it.
Also note that when you sync an iPod, do connect it directly to the body of the Mac, and not via any USB Hub or the keyboard USB hub. Also do not use any other USB devices.
    Good Luck!

  • TS1363 iPod Classic 160gb will not connect to Macbook.

My iPod classic will not connect to my macbook. It is recognized by my wall charger, speakers, and FM transmitter in my car. I've had this trouble for some time, but before I attributed to my previous Macbook which had a few other problems. However I just got a new macbook, and it is still not coming up in Finder nor iTunes. Any advice is much appreciated!

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac?  Have you tried another USB cable just in case?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the Mac?

  • Ipod classic 160gb  won't sync past the 36 gigabyte point

I recently had the headphone jack on my iPod Classic replaced, but when I got it back and tried to sync it on my computer (running Windows XP SP3) I began to encounter serious problems. When the sync reaches the 36 gigabyte mark (I can't say for sure if it always crashes at exactly the same point), the ipod will refuse to add any more music and I encounter one of three error messages, one about being unable to write itunesdb.old, one claiming the ipod is full and one claiming it encountered a crc error (alas I can't remember the exact wording of any of the three, I can get this information with some effort if it is really necessary). Furthermore, after this error occurs, the ipod causes the computer to behave sluggishly, with the 'my computer' folder frequently freezing when I attempt to open it. Also, when I attempt to eject the ipod it goes into a reset (but for some reason it will still play all music added before the last sync attempt perfectly).
I have taken a number of steps to try and fix this problem, after the ipod would not sync with Winamp and the ml_ipod plugin, I installed the latest version of iTunes and encountered the same problem, I also tried restoring the ipod using iTunes a number of times. To ensure the problem was not corrupt files I ran the chdk utility on my hard drive, in addition I attempted to add files from different parts of my music library, tried adding the music letter by letter and tried syncing the ipod to my friend's music collection on his computer (running Vista and the latest Itunes)and encountered the same problem every time.
Could someone please help me out diagnosing this problem?

I bought my 160gb iPod clear in the knowlege that I had a 12 month warranty on hardware failure. No extended warranty or insurance. If I lose my iPod or damage it through carelessness I'll be cross with myself not Apple. I've had almost two years use out of it so far and when it does die, hopefully from natural causes, I'll still be cross but I reckon I'll have had my money's worth. Having been through a significant number and variety of portable cassette & CD players over 30 years it's lasted longer & been much more fun to own than any of those. To be honest it's survived quite a few falls and proved to be remarkably robust although my nice silicone sleeve may be an important factor in it's survival. Two of my kids have 5th gen iPods which have needed new headphone jacks (their wear & tear) and one's battery could do with replacing (age) but they've been good too.
Hard drives can & do fail. A hard drive that is used while moving is probably going to have a shorter life-span than one that sits still. This article on the bathtub curve illustrates three classes of failure, early infant mortality, due, presumably to some manufacturing defect, random failures over time & failures due to wear & tear. User induced failure (dropping, drowning, baking in the sun etc.) are presumably random over time, although I guess we're all a little more protective/careful with a shiny new toy. Your warranty should have covered any early failure. Apple or your dealer probably offered an option for an extended warranty when you bought it which you, I presume, like me, declined on the basis that you didn't think it was good value for the money. With this in mind why do you think Apple should replace an out of warranty iPod? They've kept their end of the contract, presumably you've had 12 months of useage out of it for your warranty to have expired.
Putting all that aside you say you have the same problem. What symptoms exactly? Have you looked at the SmartData for example? Have you conducted surface tests of both the iPod's drive & your source media? If your iPod's drive is damaged are you being honest with yourself over how roughly you've treated it?

  • My Ipod Classic (160GB) no longer connects to itunes.

Over the past week, after no previous issues, syncing my ipod to itunes proved difficult. Ipod is less than 12 months old and will try to have replaced but would like to see if there is a "fix" first
    Actions to date:
    1. unable to sync music (various songs/ablums - never the same twice)
    2. re-installed itunes (3x)
    3. Ipod not syncing to itunes
    4. stopped/restarted Ipod services
    5. changes usb cables (tested with Iphones - all work)
    6. followed Itunes support advice pages
    but still nothing
Any advice would be appreciated before I use the ipod as a skimming stone in the nearest lake
    Regards
    Andy

Read this Apple Support Article on Restoring iPod.
    It is on step 6.
Restore would reformat your iPod Hardisk, if it is still in good condition, but some iPod Hardisk may be damage, due to abuse and misuse, so the Restore would fail.
For a successful Restore, I would also suggest that
    Disconnect all other USB devices
    Use the USB2.0 port
Do not use any USB Hub.

  • My iPod Classic 160GB has lost all its music and won't sync or restore

My iPOD Classic 160GB has spontaneously lost all its music - approx. 5000 songs. One minute they were all there, now they're all gone - display says "No Music" although memory still shows 23GB in use? I tried to re-sync on iTunes but the iPod won't sync (error 1415) or restore (error 1439). As things currently stand,my iPod is just a very expensive paperweight - please can anybody help with this?

    hi lindsay
i understand you have all your music still in your itunes library?
Try the basic resetting of your ipod, also try another usb port.
Have you tried ,when ipod is connected, click on your ipods name, for example lindsays ipod, another window should open up and you can see  summary, click on the sync box ,bottom right hand corner, see if this helps.
Or you could ,when you have itunes open, click for updates.
    hope this may help you
    thanks madforit

Cured the problem! Reinstalled an earlier version of itunes from oldapps.com (version 10) now everything works as it should. I would suggest that if you are experiencing these problems that you do the same. I must say that it is a brave business decision on behalf of apple to effectively lock out all windows 7 users from their products and sales channels and I can only wish them luck in this very shortsighted policy.

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.
