My iPod classic 80GB is recognised by my computer, but not by itunes.

I cant sync my iPod so cant update the music on it and dont know what to do. I've tried all the troubleshooting suggestions and nothing has worked. I miss my iPod and dont really want to have to buy a new one. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank so much!

Your "music list" in iTunes is in your iTunes library, not your iPod, so I don't understand what you are describing.
In iTunes, select Music under LIBRARY in the iTunes sidebar.
NOTE:  If the iTunes sidebar (along left side of window) is not visible, from the iTunes menu bar, under View, select Show Sidebar.
That is your list of songs in iTunes, and it is there whether your iPod is connected or not.
When you connect the iPod, it should appear under DEVICES in the sidebar.  Click the small triangle to the left of the iPod name, to drop down the iPod's content list (indented below the iPod).  Click on Music there.  To the right, the list of songs on the iPod is shown.  That list is separate from your iTunes library music list.
Can you describe the problem in your problem in more detail?

  • Tried to restore Ipod Classic 80gb; restore ran for 3 days but not restored

    Hi there,
So i bought first ipod from one of my friends, which does have some damage to the screen on it but i have been using for a few weeks now as she had 1800 songs on it. I finally was able to purchase the usb cord and i downloaded Itunes. When i connected it to itunes it basically told me something about how the music list is part of another collection and if i wanted to add songs i would have to remove hers, which i am fine with but when i went to the summary and hit restore it popped up a little window downloaded something then states it is restoring. I left it connected to the computer and went to bed, the next night i went to my computer and it said the same thing, this went on for 3 days on the third day the i tunes was frozen and i had to close it via the task manager. i then shut down the the pc waited for the ipod to say it was ok to disconnect then removed it from the computer then rebooted the computer. i turned on the ipod and i see the menus i can play the games still but all the folders music, podcast, everything states their is no music, no videos, etc. Now every now and then it will show the apple and what seems to be a restart. I have followed the 5r's and tried to hold the menu and select key which seems to do about nothing, then i brought the ipod into disk mode and hooked it up to itunes which then tells me to reformat again. the problem is this was a working ipod with songs til i connected to itunes at my house, my friend showed me how to use itunes at her home with this same ipod and she did not have the error as soon as she plugged it into itunes.
Anyways, now i plug into itunes and it tells me to reformat thats all it will do, it does show the ipod on the left side of the menu, it does show in my computer as a drive but i can not restore and i can not sync songs.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

i forgot in the settings of the ipod when you pull up the info it shows 21.7gb used 52.5 freethe slide bar is orange (other i believe)games is the only thing showing 3 items

  • Ipod touch first generation is recognized by computer but not by itunes 9

I connect my ipod touch to my hp laptop while itunes 9 is open. My computer recognizes the ipod touch but it never appears in my itunes. If anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated. i have tried the suggested steps on apple and nothing really has worked. ipod touch still charges and works fine. ipod touch is first generation.

I spent 2.5 hours on the phone with Apple and they were stumped. We tried everything!!! uninstalling itunes, updating "usb mass storage" drivers, etc...
I have an ipod touch 16gb, Gateway computer using Vista, and my computer recognized the ipod but itunes didn't start up when I plugged it in and it was not recognized in itunes.
Long story short, after reading almost every thing I could find on google and Apple help I stumbled onto the info about the 2.0 usb port. In looking to see if my computer had a 2.0 usb port (just to be sure)I found that it would be listed as "enhanced" in the Universal Serial Bus Controller section of Device Manager. Sooooo, I tried updating those drivers and it worked! I think. I did so many things, but this seemed to do the trick. It's worth a try. Mine is working perfectly now.
    start
    control panel
    device manager
    universal serial bus controllers
right click on the "enhanced host controller" (mine listed 2, so I did both)
    choose automatic update
then plug in the ipod. That seemed to allow my ipod to download the proper driver. Tadaaa - itunes started and my ipod is now recognized in itunes.
Worth mentioning is that my ipod had to do a restore. Not sure why, maybe it was something apple had me try.
    GOOD LUCK!!

  • TS1363 on connecting my ipod nano it is recognised by my computor but not in i.tunes?

For some reason when connecting my ipod nano to my computor, it is recognised by my computor, but not by itunes. I have followed the procedures
under the apple help , troubleshooting etc.which did not resolve the issue. Norton security have investigated the problem which included deleting the program
which made no difference.I can only assume the problem is a faulty ipod ir a problem with I tunes. Any ideas please.

Which procedures or Apple support documents have you already looked at?  It would help us narrow down what other possible solutions/troubleshooting to offer.

  • When I plug in my iPod Classic, it is visible in My Computer, but iTunes gives error message PLEASE HELP!

When I plug in my iPod Classic, it is visible in My Computer, but iTunes gives an error message saying "The software required for this iPod is not installed corectly. Please reinstall iTunes to install the required software." It started completely randomly and now does it every time. I completely wiped out iTunes and reinstalled it via the intructions from this website, but it is still doing the same thing. Furthermore, when I go to Start, All Programs, the iTunes folder contains no data AND the desktop shortcup does nothing when clicked on. I have to go to Start, Run, and type in itunes.exe in order to run the program. Can anyone tell me what is going on?

Do one or more of the following
    > Restart your computer
    > Uninstall & Reinstall iTunes
    > Reset iDevice (won't erase everything)
    > Go to My Computer (windows xp) or Computer (windows vista & 7) and see if iDevice shows
    > Restore the iDevice completely (will erase everything)
    > Make sure the iTunes and/or iOS firmware is up-to-date.
The ones I cross over is the ones you don't have to do. This should help

  • IPod Classic shows up in My Computer, but not in iTunes

  • IPod recognised by computer but not by iTunes, Please Help!!

When i connect my iPod to my computer, the 'do not disconnect' screen appears , and my ipod is shown in 'my computer', but not on iTunes please can anyone help and give suggestions. All replies are gratefully appreciated.

    Peter,
Peter. I had the same problem (only after installing 5.0.1). The only solution I found to work was to uninstall 5.0.1 and install the previous version that came on the packaged disk.
Something I noticed, however, is that you can still download and successfully run the most recent iPod updater software. The 9/23/05 iPod updater release works just fine with iTunes 4.7., but it would not recognize the iPod when running 5.0.1 (iPod service error). There is clearly a commong problem with many Windows users with the 5.0.1 release. Don't know if it's a bad iPod service script or what...but it doesn't work for a lot of users (although I, too, had access to the iPod as an external drive in explorer). Haven't seen anything from Apple on it, though.
Would like to see this fixed, soon!

My iPod nano is recognized under My Computer but not in iTunes.
I formaatted the iPod nano as FAT32 using the format option when right-clicking on the drive in My Computer.

  • My Ipod Touch 4G  is showing up as a storage device in my computer but not on Itunes.

So I have a Ipod touch 4g. It is showing up as a storage device when I connect it, but not in Itunes or any other third party program. My IPod has connected to this computer before on this version of ITunes and worked fine. Now, it's just not. I really need help. I have tried everything, reseting my Ipod, the services with right clicking computer and clicking manage, reinstalling Itunes (2 times) and restarting, nothing works. I have read tons of other peoples discussions and nothing worked. I have checked for viruses and uninstalled all Third party programs I have, nothing seemed to work. I really need help.
    Thank you!
