My ipod classic has started making a mewling sound and all it does is scroll through the songs.  It does not play on my Bose sound dock or through earbuds.  It will play when connected to the computer...but that makes it hard to take it on a walk with me   I thought it might be a synching problem so tried that--still doesn't work.  How do I fix this problem with out restoring it to the factory setting?  I do not want to lose all my music content as some of it I cannot replace easily.  Please help with suggestions and advice. Thanks.  Karen in GA

Have you recharge your iPod for at least 2 hours, preferably till the Full charge Battery symbol comes ON.?

    Hey Grimeymouse,
Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like your iPod classic is only playing sound in mono when using multiple headphones.
Since you've likely isolated this behavior to the iPod by trying multiple headphones, see this advice from the "The headphones don't work" section of the iPod troubleshooting basics and service FAQ:
If the issue appears to be with the iPod, try resetting it. If that doesn't work, then restore iPod with the latest iPod software using iTunes 7 or later.
    All the best,

  • A folder with an explanation mark appears on the screen of my ipod

When i turn my ipod on it displays the apple for a really long time then the folder with the explanation mark shows for a while then it turns itself off. I have tried to update and restore my ipod but then the ipod is not recognised on the computer so i have gone into my computer to find it via the usb ports but still it isn't found. When I put it in the port all it displays is either the folder, the apple logo or "Do not Disconnect" sign. The ipod also makes a really loud noise as though something is spinning inside like a C-D. Please can someone give me advice please.
If possible can you e-mail me on [email protected]
    Thank you

  • My macbook pro displays a folder with a question mark on it when it turns on. What does this mean and how do I fix it?

My macbook pro displays a folder with a question mark and won't open. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

it means your HD and the software can't find each other, the following article tells how to troubleshoot this issue:
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS1440
hopefully you have backup of your data since sometimes this means the HD is crashing.
if the article doesn't resolve the issue i would take the mac to apple store or service provider and have it looked at, the following link tells how to find one close to you:

    good luck!!

  • My 160gb iPod Classic has started placing "The" in the "T" section.

Just recently my iPod Classic started organizing all my albums beginning with the word "The" into the "T" section.  This is something new.  Not sure how this changed, but is there a setting I can change to fix this?  It's quite annoying.

  • Can't start my laptop - file folder with a question mark is on the screen -

what should I do? got my new Macbook only one month ago. now traveling, but can't start up the computer.

You can try a few things, but if they fail then only reinstalling OS X will fix the problem. Try the following:
Delete caches to resolve some startup problems:
Boot into single-user mode. After the system prompt appears enter the following lines pressing RETURN after each:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
Once it finishes, it'll display this message if no issue is found:
** The volume (nameofvolume) appears to be OK
If fsck found issues and has altered, repaired, or fixed anything, it will display this message:
*** FILE SYSTEM WAS MODIFIED ***
If this message is returned repeat the command until the OK message is received. If you repeat the command more than seven times without receiving the OK message, then your drive cannot be repaired. Do not proceed beyond this point.
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Caches/*
You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will not be echoed.
    sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.ATS
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices*
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Caches/*
    reboot
Please write down the above commands carefully as you can create a bigger problem if they are not entered correctly.

  • MacBookPro 2010 displays a folder with a question mark.

My MacbookPro 15" will not boot and it displayed a grey screen with a folder in the center with a blinking question mark. I assumed that my hard drive died, so I purchased a new harddrive. It is the same manufacturer and same model and size.
I inserted my Grey Utility CD and my unit does not detect the new drive at all.
Can anyone help. I miss using my laptop. PCs are horrible.

    jsandrieux,
do you have an external disk enclosure, or a SATA-to-USB or SATA-to-FireWire adapter? If you do, then you could try connecting your hard drive externally to see if it’s detectable that way. If it’s recognized externally, but not internally, then the problem might be with your internal SATA cable rather than a hardware problem with your old hard drive.

  • Laptop turns on but has a folder with a question mark in the middle

for the last month or so my computer has been acting weird. when i turnd it on one morning it wouldent load it just kept the apple sign logo on the screen then it would change too the circle with a line though it sign.
now the logo doesnt even show up and a folder with a question mark on it is shown. is there a way to fix this problum and if so estimated how much...

    Hi wizy;
It sounds like either your disk or the directories on your disk have been slowly going bad.
    Do you have a backup?
The question mark indicates that your Mac is not able to find a system to boot from. I would suggest that you boot form the install media for your Mac and repair the disk with Disk Utility. Let us know the results of that and we can go from there.

To give you something, I need something too, like
How old is the Ipod? (if it is still under warranty, then send it to Apple service shop)
Are you running Windows iTunes or Mac iTunes?
What do you see on the iPod screen?
My guess is, your iPod classic is more than 2 years old and out of warranty, and the hardisk has gone kaput! and need to be replaced.
    Have a nice day!

  • What do I do if my ipod classic has lines at the top righthand corner of the screen that won't go away?

I am not sure when this issue started, but my iPod Classic has lines at the top righthand corner of the screen.  They show up on every screen now.  The iPod is working, but I don't know if this is a sign of bad things to come.  I have dropped the iPod a few times, but not regularly.  I also wasn't sure if this means that it is time to update my iTunes software.  I am going to try updating the software tonight to see if that fixes the problem.  I have tried resetting the iPod, but it doesn't make the lines go away.  I am just curious to see if anyone else has had this issue.  I have attached pictures because it is probably hard to diagnose my issue without seeing it.

It is not a software issue, since you have reset it and update the firmware.
LCD screen do konk out due to high temperature, or when the pixels are static and burn the screen, like the 2 lines, that's the reason we have screen savers or the screen power down, when not in used. Some users do have screen ON all the time when connecting to iPod Docking stations.
Other defects are due to poor SMT, when the display chip is mounted on the iPod motherboard., normally a band of vertical or horizontal white lines across the screen, these appear within 1 year, and Apple do replace the whole iPod.
You can get LCD screen replaced at Apple, if it is still under warranty or get a 3rd party vendor near your area if you want it done cheaper.
    Have a nice day.

  • Ipod classic has been wiped. cannot see it on the 'device list' in my itunes. I have tried restoring to factory settings and reloading...it reloads some of the music, but when I plug the Ipod back in, it wipes it again.

Ipod classic has been wiped saying 'no music'etc.
Cannot see it on the 'device list' in my itunes. I have tried restoring to factory settings and reloading...it reloads some of the music, but when I plug the Ipod back in, it wipes it again. Ocassionally Itunes freezes when I plug in the Ipod.

Make sure your headphones are plugged in all the way, meaning you cannot see any of the silver still showing from the headphone's plug.
A feature of the Nano is to put it to sleep when the display goes out and it does not detect any headphones.

  • Ipod classic wont start up or reset after sleeping mode

Hi. I've just got a new iPod Classic 160Gb, one week old. Everything is fine except that it won't turn on after sleep mode is on. I cant do the restart. The iPod somehow does not response to the menu+start buttons at the same time. It however wakes to live when I plug it to the computer. But when not in use and after it enters sleeping mode I still cannot turn it on. The only option again is to plug it to the computer. This is not right...?? It has the latest software and I have reset to original setup through iTunes.
Anyone know how I could solve this problem? Could this be a hardware fault?

Hi, did you ever find a fix for this? My iPod Classic has just done the exact same thing - red X, won't be detected on Windows, and won't go into disk mode (will go into Config mode, but I can't see anything in that mode that will help).
Would really like to be able to put this into disk mode so I can try to restore my files...
