I tried that and it kept freezing up often so I reset it to the factory setings and now my computer recognizes it,but Itunes freezes everytime without fail. so now I have an empty Ipod that I can sync. any suggestions on how to fix that

Same problem as itunes 9.1..... this is so wrong , apple should have figured all of this out before releasing products... imac , itunes & ipod are all with newest software as of OCT 30th and it still freezes up then gives me the spinning ball of doom and 15-25 minutes later it tells me it cant sync...

I had my classic in bits the other day tryin to suss out whats wrong, but ever since this happend more and more people are coming up with similar issues. I plug my classic in, it recognises it and begins to sync. Then around 100 songs in itunes will freeze and my ipod goes from syncing to just connected and makes weird noiese. I've tried everything so im not sure what to do next. As long as i know its not just me :P

ITunes freezes when I'm trying to eject iPod (classic, 160GB)
I JUST got my new MacBook and iPod like 3 days ago and now all of a sudden iTunes freezes when I'm trying to eject iPod.
It's very annoying considering I never had this problem w/my old MacBook or my old iPod and this stuff is brand new!
I know a lot of people have similar problem. Did ANYONE find out what to do with it? Or do I have to drive to Apple Store again?

I am getting an 'iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted" message from my 80GB iPod Classic. It plays music fine and has 2.5 GB of space left. I get the message on multiple PC's and USB ports. I have tried resetting it and using Disk Mode. Any advice?
In my Computer folder
Right Click the iPod
Select properties->tools->error check
tick both fix filesystem error and surface scan.
Press OK
May take about 2 hours to complete.
PS: dont be in a hurry to disconnect your iPod, as future recurrence will come, as the HD is almost full, do back up your iTunes library, before your iPod HD gives the dreaded fatal Red X sign.

I'm unable to access content on my iPod Classic while it is connected to iTunes.
The iPod itself shows up and is set to manual management, but I am unable to view or play any of the content on it (music, movies, podcasts etc.).
I can click the tabs Music, Movies etc. but I can't see anywhere to access the files themselves, no music or movies are listed, I only have the option to 'Sync' with the iTunes, which I don't want to do as there is no content on the iTunes!!!
I just downloaded the iTunes program.

My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc. -

Look through the compatible list chart and see which 80GB model are you using, either ID 9 or 10. you can order through Apple Online Store.

IPod Classic has files, but won't play anything on iPod or in iTunes
I have a question about iPod/iTunes file structure.
I have an 80 gb iPod Classic with about 50 gigs of music and video. I'm not sure what I did, but I can't get the iPod to play, or recognize the data in iTunes. When I plug the iPod in, it registers in Windows with the disc name and all folders (showing 50 GB used space), but in iTunes, it just calls it "iPod" (not the iPod name)and it only shows the Summary page, no others with the only option being to restore the iPod. I get the message "iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod 'MY STUFF'. Go to the Summary tab in iPod preferences and click Restore to restore this iPod to factory settings." I don't have the computer with the original music (my dad has it half the country away), so I refuse to restore. All the music and video was purchased through iTunes.
Also, when the iPod is disconnected from the computer (or connected for that matter), it shows that the iPod has 50 GB's of data, but when I select Music or TV Shows for example, nothing shows up. It almost seems empty
I'm thinking I deleted a file or two that iPod/iTunes needs to recognize all the files (the iPod Library file maybe??). I have a hidden folder called iPod_Control on the disk. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Do I need to copy or create a file or folder? Do I need to move files around? Kind of random, I know, but I don't want to lose literally thousands of dollars in paid music and video!

Whoops! Apple forgot that if your iPod doesn't show up in iTunes, you can't restore it any more! Even the kbase is out of date, because it tells you (as the final step) to use iTunes to restore the thing on the page about iTunes not recognizing it.
If I reformat in Disk Utility, will my iPod be permanently damaged? Because that's looking like the last thing I'll be able to do, now that Apple has dropped standalone updaters... -
Brand new computer with Windows 8.1 will not sync to iPod Classic 120G. Windows does not recognize anything but iPod Touch? Is there a simple solution. Diagnostics have run and failed to point to a fix.
Might be worth tearing down the whole iTunes install and starting over...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

Would a 30GB iPod Classic fit in a case for an 80GB-160GB iPod Classic?
I gave my daughter my old iPod 30GB. She wants a case for it. I found some cases on a site, but they say they are for 80-160GB classic iPods. Would her 30GB fit in one of those cases?
There were several 30GB iPods, from 3rd gen to 5th gen. Is this a "video" iPod (5th gen)?
If it's 3rd or 4th gen, it will definitely NOT fit. If it's 5th gen, it probably will not fit, unless (maybe) it is really rubbery and flexible, or loose fitting. The top edges on the new iPod "classic" are more rounded compared to the 5th gen iPod, although the overall dimensions are similar.
There seem to be a lot listings on eBay, if it's 5th gen. Do a search on "ipod classic 5th gen case." Pretty cheap, because they are old products. NOTE: There were two "thicknesses" for iPod 5th gen, depending on capacity of the hard drive. 30GB is the thinner type (for a 5th gen). If the case is a hard shell, be sure you get the correct match. -

ITunes freezes for 60-120 secs when connecting iPod
This is weird. I have iTunes 7.6.1 and OS X 10.5.2.
Whenever I connect an iPod (my wife and I have three between us), iTunes freezes with the spinning beachball for anywhere from 60 to 120 seconds, sometimes longer. At times, when I try to drag a podcast or something over to an iPod, it won't "take"--it's not on the iPod in any of the menus. If I try to do a sync of all podcasts, for example, it freezes completely and even trying to force quit won't do anything.
I've deleted the plist files, but no luck. Any ideas?It sounds like a hardware problem is messing with iTunes communicating with the iPod. I'd suggest the easy stuff first. Switch USB ports, switch USB cables, reset your iPod. If you are connecting via a USB hub try connecting directly to a USB port on the computer. If the iPod is still in warranty you can take it to the Apple Store or call Apple Care.

Ok so i have restored my iPod touch multiple times the restore is "successful" my iPod touch 2g goes to the connect to iTunes screen then it just freezes. After about one minute it goes to a white screen until it dies. Any ideas?
If it does it after restoring to factory defaults/new iPod then yo have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

IPod Sync Problem - syncs songs, but then no songs on ipod - space taken by other
I recently got a new computer with Windows 7. I installed itunes (64 bit for windows 7) and imported my songs from my external hard drive. I automatically synced my ipod classic and once it completed got the instructions that it was ok to disconnect. When I did, my ipod shows no music, but the space taken in memory is the same as the amount of music I have (around 8,000 songs). When I reconnect, I get a message that I need to restore my ipod since the files cannot be read and they show up as other on the bottom of itunes. I've tried multiple times - restored ipod, uninstalled/reinstalled itunes, deleted ipod driver, reinstalled driver, cleared the ipod in disk mode, but no luck. Please help me solve this problem! It's driving me crazy having a new computer with itunes that does not work!
Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes cant read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
My suggestion.
Connect your Ipod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When Itunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your iPod, preferably Manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got quite a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.

reinstalled my windows operating system and decided to put on windows 8. After loading all of my music back into a freshly installed itunes, my 4th gen ipod is not recognized by itunes. My 1st gen ipod nano works with no problem. I can eliminate any problems with the cable and connection.
I've stopped and started the service, and also have performed cold reboots.
Nothing seems to have helped the situation.
