My iPod Classic shows link to support

Hello, I have an iPod Classic 20G. When I turn it on, the apple appears and stays for a few seconds, then it displays an iPod on screen with the link to Apple.com/support/ipod. When I go there, I try to get help with a tech. It asks for my type of iPod and the serial number, but when I enter the information, it says the serial number is not valid. What can I do in order to get my iPod Classic to work again?

Hello justjakk,
I'm sorry to hear you are having these issues with your iPod classic. If you are getting a screen with the /support/ipod link, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following articles helpful:

My iPod Classic shows up in My Computer, but not in iTunes. I've gone through the troubleshooting guide, reset it 3 times and put it in disk mode, reinstalled and updated iTunes and still nothing.

    Hey there april_lee!
I have a website for you that can walk you through the troubleshooting steps on your iPod classic. This will help you determine the source of your issue and hopefully get the iPod working for you consistently again. The website can be found right here:

My iPod classic shows that memory full in other category however there is nothing on it. I have left it connected all day and over night trying to restore it but the progress bar  never goes away. Is it shot or are there other options to restore to factory settings?

    Hi pbworth,
When troubleshooting issues with iPod classic, it may be helpful to place the iPod into Disk Mode. For information on how to do so:

  • HT5622 My Ipod Classic shows a red circle with a cross in the middle. I've completed diagnostic tests which have popped up, however any HP/FW/Hard Drive tests freeze the ipod, as if the hard drive won't spin. What do I do?

My Ipod Classic shows a red circle with a cross in the middle. I've completed diagnostic tests which have popped up, however any HP/FW/Hard Drive tests freeze the ipod, as if the hard drive won't spin. What do I do?
After holding down the Select and Play/Pause button, I was able to restart the Ipod and then it brought me to a Diagnositc test. I have tried doing both the Mannual and Annual test on the ipod however in each test, the ipod freezes on different access tests. The HP (headphones) test, shows the headphones are detected, but then if it tries to play a song to make sure they work it freezes and goes back to the red cross. I have looked at various other questions regarding the FW cable, however I don't believe i have such a cabel. Then the Hard Drive test freezes up and I can hear a ticking noise coming from the drive but it doesnt seem to be spinning. Alongside these test issues, any computer cannot see the Ipod when plugged in (including itunes). Therefore some tests for the USB drive cannot be completed. I do not recall dropping it badly, though I have dropped it previously. Does all this mean there is damage to the drive? Should I instead take it to an apple store?
    Many Thanks

The stats look fine. Try the DFU Restore method shown in Corrupt iPod classic. It may pay to disable any anti-virus software and use the staged transfer method to reload data, assuming you get that far.

  • I can't sync all music to ipod classic. shows fault -69 or sometimes -50

I seem to have problem with my ipod classic. It started when i ejected from itunes when it was still syncing and all the files on ipod vanished. After that I couldn't sync at all & couldn't restore. I've updated the Itunes and restored the ipod so it works but it doesn't sync all the music, neither whole playlist it just picks some tracks.
The communications shows it cannot find some files with error -69 or -50 does anyone know what this could mean??? after that it stops syncing.
P.S. I've not moved the music anywhere and the itunes plays everything, what can i do?
Thank you in advamce for help.
    Joanna

Error -50 is a connection timeout, when iTunes is trying to transfer huge number of songs to your iPod, see this support link.
It maybe cause by your Antivirus. So if you want to sync safely, disconnect your PC from the Internet, Stop your Antivirus
I would suggest that you split your songs into several playlist of 1000 songs, and sync 1 playlist at a time.
if that doesn't help, then check out this link.

  • 120 GB iPod Classic showing only 111 GB Capacity

I have a 120 GB iPod Classic. Its original settings were restored before syncing it to my library. In the iTunes summary, its capacity indicates only 111 GB available. In the segmented bar at the bottom of the iTunes screen, all segments (Audio, Video, Other, Free) add up to 111 GB. The "Other" category shows only 232 MB used.
What can I do to regain the nearly 9 GB lost?
    TIA - mahalo!

You need to complain to the whole data storage industry then. That's how all data storage devices are marketed. If you buy a 320GB hard drive, you are not going to get 320GB of usable storage; you'll come out short by about 22GB. If one company decided to use actual storage for marketing, that company would be at a marketing disadvantage compared to competitors.
An iPod is a data storage device that hold and plays music (and other media).

  • Ipod classic shows on mac desktop, but not in itunes

I have an ipod classic that connects fine to my dell computer (with Windows 7) but when I try to connect it to my MacBook Air it shows up on my desktop but won't connect to itunes. I've made sure I have the most current version of itunes, and have tried multiple ways of plugging it in and have restarted my computer, but I still can't get it to show up. Please help!

    Hello!
You need to put your iPod into Forced Disk Mode and restore it using iTunes.
Try resetting your iPod by following these steps:
    1. toggle to hold switch on and then off again
    2. press the Menu and Center/Select buttons together until the screen goes black (should take no longer then 30 seconds)
    3. as soon as you see the Apple logo let up on the buttons and press down the Center/Select and Play/Pause buttons until a checkmark appears on the screen.
    4. connect your iPod to your computer and restore thru iTunes

  • Data on ipod classic shows up as "other".  I REFUSE to restore it cuz the music is not backed up cuz my macbook had to be restored and that wiped my itunes.  I don't have the cds anymore. How do i get my music back??

So my old ipod broke two years ago.  I got an ipod classic and synched it to my itunes library on my macbook.  Then I had problems with my macbook and had to restore it to factory settings.  I have kept my eyes open for a way to get my music backed up in my itunes again cuz I figured this ipod would probably break someday too.  Anyway now when I look at my 160g ipod classic, it says I have 0 songs, and 0 videos but 27.3g of "other".  I looked around for a solution and I tried updating my itunes and then I plugged my ipod in and it said I needed to restore it to factory settings using itunes.  I'm not gonna do that.  For the most part I have come across this problem with solutions for pc users and I have a MACBOOK.  Anyway I haven't even had my ipod hooked up to my computer for a while because I haven't added any new music and when I charge it, I just hook it up to my iphone charger.  This literally happened overnight.  I mean there is some stuff on there that is irreplaceable.  PLEASE HELP!
p.s. Dumb it down a bit for me.

Restoring an iPad from an iTunes-generated backup should not require an Apple ID password.
Did you encrypt the iPad backup? If so, then trying to restore will require entering the encryption password.

  • Does ipod classic shows films via hdmı adaptor for iPhone 4

can ı use ipod classic by using hdmı adaptor for iphone4 to watch the film on TV or projector
becouse 160 gb hard disk capsity can be usefull for the film archive

The problem with the expensive machine that you are considering purchasing is that there is a physical disc. When you move around the needle can crash down. Apple has been thus far very successful at owning up to the warranties on this machine.
I would go with something that does not have a large physical drive. If it crashes within the year, Apple will not only refuse to honor the warranty but they will try to charge you to repair or replace. It's a real slap in the face.
on the brighter side there are other options.

  • Ipod Classic shows a check on screen and is unresponsive (says "OK to disconnect"); why?

Earlier today, I was playing music just fine.  Suddenly, a message came on screen (iPod Classic) saying "Connect to Power".  Shortly after connecting, another message came up saying, "OK to disconnect," with a displayed "Check" in the middle of the screen.  The iPod is now unresponsive and I don't know why.  What gives, anybody?
PS - It still displays the battery charging though.

If you have not already, try a Reset (to "reboot" the iPod)

IS THERE ANYTHING I CAN DO TO START IT AND GET IT BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN?
The PC / Itunes software does not recdognize it

    Hi Crystal Newkirk,
I've come across the following information which may be helpful. If you are seeing the red "X" icon on the display, we will need to restore your iPod from Disk Mode.

  • Why would an iPod Classic show a Red X?

What are all the possible reasons an iClassic were to show an X?
Two reasons I know of are:
    You drop it
    You spill water on it

A red X is usually indicative of some form of hardware failure. If the "5 Rs" don't help, and you are still getting just the Red X, I'd contact Apple for service. Here's a post from Bilbo Cheshire suggesting a possible way back from a Red X, but your best bet may be to contact Apple for service.

  • TS1382 My ipod classic shows a x and wont start, can reboot but cant do anything elts

hit the Menu and middle butten and reset it, but nothing else works.
tried to hit play/pause and middle after apple logo, but that didnt work

this happend to me with my old ipod
just let it sit near a window where or anywhere the sun will heat it so the water evaporates then try it
if not just take it to apple

  • Ipod classic not allowing access to to music or pod casts - shows zero files in music and pod cast but used space shows 3/4 full it is recognized by itunes sometimes on my pc but unable to view content

ipod classic shows disk 3/4 full  but when i look in the folders  it shows zero for music and zero for podscasts. i can not access these folders on the ipod or when it does connect to my windows computer thru itunes.  it does not connect 90% of the time now.  i let it check the disk when it was connected to my pc which did not good  -  any other ideas?  other than restore?

Your iPod filesystem is corrupted, so your music and podcastr is in the Others, this is most likely caused by a slow USB connection, which timeout during sync.
    Try the Hard Reset first
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Then do the iPod Disk Diagnostic, in this earlier post by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but help you decide if your iPod is dying and causing the timeouts.
    Have a nice day!
