My Ipod Classic Will Not Connect To My Computer

I've had this ipod (new classic 120gb) for about a month and I have had not problem connecting it to my computer in the past. I connect it and it will put my songs and videos on it. But now I connect it as usual and the only message that stays on my ipod screen is:
Connected
Eject before connecting
and the picture switches between two arrows going in a circle and the picture of the the connection to the ipod of the usb cable. And then when I try to click in Itunes it doesn't do anything. I have Itunes minimized and I can open it but I can't click anything. Not even the close button up the top right corner.
So I then just disconnect my ipod, it will turn off and then when i turn it on it still works but only the songs and videos I had on there before are there and the new stuff I tried to put on there isn't.
Also after Itunes will resume and come up with a message saying
'the ipod ___ cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found'
then it will appear again for the videos. I haven't touched a thing and suddenly this starts happening. I'd appreciate help. I have a basic knowledge of most of the workings of computers so I'm confident I'll be able to understand instructions on how to fix this.
That is as much detail as I can provide. Need more? Let me know and I'll give you what you need

  • IPod classic will not connect in iTunes

My iPod classic 30gb (not sure if 4th or 5th gen) will not display in iTunes. I have followed the steps on apple support and came to the conclusion that windows was confusing the my ipod with a network drive but I cannot change the drive letter, an error message appears.
I am using windows 7 on a new laptop. iPod connects fine on my old laptop which has a windows XP os. My iPod is quite old, i have had it since 2005/2006 but i have never had any problems and i really dont want to loose all my music, videos and photos.
My sister has tried connecting her iPhone to this laptop afterwards and after a lot of hassle and iTunes constantly resetting, her iPhone finally managed to connect and is displayed in iTunes.
I have relativley good technical knowledge, i am very good at solving things and am good with computers as have an a-level in I.T, but this has me stuck and is fustrating! Any help would be most appreciated.

    Hello,
I have a similar problem, I was helping a client today, he has an iPod Classic and wanted to download an album. I had to update his iTunes to Version 10, not realizing that this might not work with his older iPod. I connected the iPod to his computer via the Apple USB connector, and his computer did not recognize the iPod.
I have no idea what to do next, as I a more of a MAC user..
Thanks in advance for any help on this!

  • IPod classic will not connect/sync/charge on iMac

I have a 160GB iPod classic that suddenly will not connect, sync, or charge when I connect it to my iMac. I recently switched from a PC laptop to an iMac and restored the iPod so it would work on the Mac, put most of my music on my iPod and it worked fine. Once I got the rest of my music onto my Mac, I attempted to connect my iPod and sync the rest of it, but it won't connect. The battery icon doesn't have the flash or plug icon, and it won't show up on my computer or in iTunes. It still plays fine and WILL charge if I plug it into the wall outlet, but that's all. I've tried resetting the iPod several times restarted my computer with it plugged in, but nothing I can think of seems to work. It also will not connect to my PC laptop either. Any suggestions?

Are you sure that your iPod CLASSIC (160GB) is formatted as a MAC?
Just had similar and iPod CLASSIC is like a MINI HARDDRIVE.
Had to reformat it from Windows Fat32 to MACKINTOSH format.
Had no problem with battery icon though (so that is separate issue from my problem).
Late post but it was today's issue for me (Aug 6th)

    Hello Downing55,
It sounds like your iPod is not being recognized in iTunes on your Windows computer.  I found an article with steps to address this:

  • IPod Classic will not connect to iTunes, tried many different things to fix but nothing worked

    What I devices I have:
I have a classic iPod and a dell laptop with windows xp.
    The problem:
iTunes and iPod work fine separately, however when I plug iPod in, iTunes will not open. If iTunes was open at the time I plugged in iPod, it freezes and wont function again until iPod is disconnected. [Once I left iPod plugged in for an hour and iTunes did open, but iPod was not noted as being connected.]
iPod charges when connected. Icon takes about 5 minutes to show up in my Computer folder. When I click the icon nothing will happen or the folder will freeze up. iPod doesn’t show up in Disk Manager either. Putting iPod into Disk Mode changed nothing.
    How it happened:
Once when I plugged in iPod a window (not an iTunes window) popped up saying that the device should be formatted or it may not work properly. Not wanting my iPod to stop working, I clicked ok and now my iPod isn’t working. Lesson: don’t click strange buttons
    What I’ve done:
    > Right clicking and clicking ‘format’ on the iPod icon while in the Computer folder – computer does nothing or freezes
    > Going to ‘reset your iPod’ – didn’t fix the problem
    > Restarting iPod (turn on and off)
    > Telling iTunes to prevent iPod from syncing automatically
    > Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes
    > Put iPod in Disk Mode, computer still didn’t recognize it.
    > everyother thing google and apple's self help section has recomended
    Any more suggestions?

    Assuming a PC start here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
It is normal for the computer to recognize the iPod as a camera since thatis how one gets photos and videos off the iPod.

  • Ipod classic will not connect to Itunes

I have had no trouble with my MacBook Ipod connection until I reformatted my hard drive on my mac book ( 2ghz intel dual core 2) and reinstalled my operating software OS 10.4.11. Now when I connect my Classic ipod 160 gig, I get the message "The ipod cannot be used because it requires Itunes version 9.0 or later. Go to WWW.itunes.com to download the latest version of iTunes". I have done that a couple of times, but still the same message and my ipod still is not recognized in iTunes. Can anyone help? Thanks

Plausibly, you might have ended up with two different versions of iTunes on the PC, and the iPod is trying to connect to the wrong one. To check for that, see the *Opening iTunes* section down the bottom of the following document:
[Troubleshooting iTunes installation on Mac OS X|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2311]
But if no luck there, try a complete uninstall/reinstall of iTunes, as per the following document:
[Removing iTunes for Mac OS X|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224]

  • Ipod classic will not connect both channes in two cars

I have an Audi and a BMW with manufacturer's cables for Ipod connection. My Nano works perfectly well in both cars.
When I plug in my 160 Gb Classic the channels do not come through, as if the plug was loose - one channel works and if I move ot the other channel works.
The interface works properly but not the sound. This IPOD works perfectly well in cradles, etc
    Any ideas?
Are the plugs differnt from the Classic to the Nano??

The dock connector is the same, but one may be more worn out from use.  If you can make the channels work by nudging the connector, that is probably the case.
As a test, connect a "cradle" where it works to the car's docking cable in the car (if that's possible), and then connect the iPod to the cradle

  • My ipod Classic will not connect to Windows Vista

I just bought a 80GB iPod and followed the instructions on downloading iTunes. I plugged in my iPod and nothing happens (using Vista Service Pack 1). "My Computer" is says that it is connected, but iTunes doesn't. I have gone though and updated all the drivers and it still doesnt work... any suggestions?

I have tried that, do you have any other suggestions?
    Thank you!

  • My ipod classic will not charge or turn on

MY IPOD CLASSIC WILL NOT CHARGE OR TURN ON

Important: iPod touch cannot be charged with a FireWire power adapter or FireWire-based car charger.
Verify that the power source being used is working properly.
If connecting to a computer's USB port, verify it is a high-powered USB 2.0 port. Note: The USB ports on most keyboards don't provide enough power, so if you're connecting iPod touch to a keyboard, make sure it has a high-powered USB 2.0 port.
Verify the computer is turned on and not in sleep or standby mode. If iPod touch is connected to a computer that's not turned on or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPod touch battery may drain.
    Try another USB port.
Try charging from a USB charger if available.
If that does not help, try another USB cable if available.

Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. • My 5 year old iPod classic will not play on my Yamaha CRX-332 cd receiver but my 3 year old iPhone 3g will.  Any suggestions to get my iPod to read the receiver or get the receiver to read the iPod?

My 5 year old iPod classic will not play on my Yamaha CRX-332 cd receiver but my 3 year old iPhone 3g will.  Any suggestions to get my iPod to read the receiver or get the receiver to read the iPod?  The receiver should be able to play the iPod with a USB connection or with the iPod dock.  Neither works with my iPod however both work with my iPhone 3g.  The iPod has the latest software.  Any thoughts?

If it is a 5-year old iPod, there is the possibility that the receiver simply won't work with the older software (there hasn't been an iPod Classic software update in years). You might try contacting Yamaha support (or doing a google search) to see if it is a known issue. One solution (probably the easiest) is to get a cable that connects a min jack (i.e., a headphone jack) to stereo cables, and just connect the iPod up that way. You eliminate the risk of corrupting the iPod, and it is a solution that should always work. Just use a wall charger to power the iPod.

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
