My iPod classic won't charge or be recognized on any device!

My iPod Classic 120GB won't charge or be recognized on any device.
I have tried charging it with both docks, wall chargers and a car charger, have tried different cables and charger combinations and it simply won't charge or make any noise, although when i plug it in the screen will light-up, as if to recognize i've plugged it in but nothing more.
Also when using it on a computer it simply comes up as device not recognized and that there is an error. Again i have tried 2 different computers both with a multitutde of different cables and usb port combinations. It won't come up as a drive or in iTunes
I have tried doing the two button menu + select reset many, many times and this doesn't fix it.
I have also tried booting it into dfu mode and disk mode and in neither of these modes will it charge or be recognized on the computer. I have tried reinstalling the drivers on both pc's to no avail.
The one strange thing though that is giving me some small hope is that what I did earlier was completely discharge the device to the point when it says please connect your charger and when i connect a charger it actually says charging, please wait, and then boots into the menu but as soon as it hits the menu it stops charging and will die again within about ten-fifteen minutes (if playing music).
Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated, i know it's no longer under warranty and i live in New Zealand so there's very little support for these devices here!

I've solved the problem, after having an Ipod Classic do the same thing a year ago out of warrenty I bought the Nano. Now 1 yr old and this Nano is useless, not even heavy enough to be a paper weight.Taking the unit to the idiots at the Apple store did nothing...GREAT customer support there Apple! After doing some research I've found that this is an ongoing problem and apparently Apple doesn't want to fix it.The Nano is in the garbage and I will no longer buy Apple products. I purchased an MP3 player and will transfer the music I have in Itunes to MP3's and find a site that supports MP3 players to buy music from in the future....All that's left is for me to hit all the social media sites I use and explain the problem and Apple's solution...what a waste of my time AND my money!

  • New Ipod Classic Won't Charge Or Be Recognized On PC

    Hello,
I just bought a 120 gb Ipod Classic a few days ago. It's my first Ipod, so I could be missing something. However, when I plug it into my laptop, I get the "charging, please wait" screen. The screen won't change, no matter how long it's charging, up to being plugged in overnight.
The Ipod will charge through my wall charger about 50% of the time. However, when I plug the Ipod back into the computer, I get the same "charging, please wait" screen. Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again? If this does not help, have a look at the suggestions in this article: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
Removing all Apple related software and reinstalling iTunes again can also bring back the needed drivers. Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • Ipod classic won't charge

My ipod classic no longer charges with my car transmitter (monster) or memorex stereo with ipod dock. Both used to work just fine and it still charges with the usb that plugs into my computer. Could it have anything to do with updating firmware? I went from 1.0.1 to 1.1.2 around the same time I noticed the issue, just want to see if it's anything else before I go back to 1.0.1. Thanks for any help-

What I did was buy a mains charger from ebay, they cost about a £1 or £2
plus about £3 postage,it works great,at least now I dont need to use a PC to
charge it up i.e on holidays or at work.
P.S type this into the ebay search bar "ipod Classic mains charger"
then change to "lowest first" on the right of the page.
    Hope this helps

  • IPOD classic won't charge with 10W IPAD charger

I have an IPOD Classic, 120 GB, an IPOD touch and an IPAD.  The 120GB IPOD classic will not charge with the new 10W IPAD charger.  Charges fine with the original IPOD classic charger.  The 10W IPAD charger charges the IPOD touch and IPAD just fine.  Any one have any ideas what might be going on?

  • IPod Classic won't charge with iPad charger

I have a 120GB iPod Classic and tried to charge it using the charger from my iPad 2. No luck - the indicator doesn't show that it's charging. The iPad 2 charger works fine on my iPhone 4 and I read that it should work with the iPod as well. Shouldn't it? Any thoughts? My goal is to be able to travel with just one charger. Thanks

  • IPod Classic Won't Charge Or Turn On

    Hello,
This past Christmas I received a 160gb black ipod classic for a present and it has worked fine up until now.
I was using my ipod on Sunday just fine but I believe that I might have not taken it off hold and the battery Is now completely dead.
I plugged it in and waited well over 30 min and yet it is still unresponsive. I have plugged it into a wall charger and into my PC and there is still nothing. The Ipod also does not register with my ITunes when plugged into the PC.
I am very worried because this Ipod is fairly new and I don't know where to go from here.
I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone can give!!
    Much Thanks

No Problem, but you can try the Reset
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • IPod Classic won't charge using MA242LL/A

I recently purchased a used MA242LL/A AV connection kit for use with my 120GB iPod classic. The MA242LL/A connection kit contains a connector cable with a firewire output, which plugs into the 2-prong power adapter, however, my iPod will not charge while resting in the dock (which is, in turn, plugged into a power outlet via the firewire cable and power adapter). Audio output is working properly via the dock, so that piece of the puzzle doesn't seem to be at fault.
Is the 120GB classic compatible with this firewire doc cable and accompanying power adapter, or will I need to upgrade to the USB style cable and a suitable adapter?

  • Ipod classic won't charge, 3sec pause every 3rd song, play/pause not work

clearly i have a problem. it's just over a year old and has suddenly started to malfunction. tried resetting obviously to no avail. first i noticed the play/pause didn't work but can get around this, then noticed it wouldn't charge as normal - given 24hrs plugged into mains it only charge half way - and as soon as you use it all all it's in the red again. also about every 3rd song the music stops for about 3seconds - then resumes - it does this even when plugged into a power source. HELP i'm travelling in SE asia for the next 3 months and can't have it die on me as it functions as hard drive for my travel photos too!!

  • IPod Classic won't charge with iPad AC charger

I want to charge my iPod classic with my iPad's AC USB charger (model number A1357) but it doesn't seem to work.  With the AC charger is plugged into a wall outlet and the iPod classic connected to the charger with a USB sync cable, the iPod doesn't charge.  The same charger and sync cable charge my iPad without any problem.  Also, using the same cable, I am able to charge the iPod Classic through the USB port on my wired Apple keyboard.
Any ideas what is wrong here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

  • My daughter bought an 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  We are using the charger from an ipod touch and it won't charge.  Someone posted online that not all chargers will work on the classic.  Anyone else have this issue and any suggestions?

My daughter bought a 4th generation ipod classic without a charger.  The ipod was working just fine, but then we tried to charge it using a brand new charger for an Ipod Touch.  It won't charge and someone online someone posted that there ipod touch charger worked on the ipad, phone and whatever else he had but it wouldn't work on the classic.  Anyone else have this same issue?  Any solutions?

The ipod did not come with a power cord as we purchased it used from ebay.  The ipod was half charged when we received it and it worked well enough to transfer songs to my computer (the previous seller didn't delete their 2000 plus songs).  My son then used the same cord on his computer to transfer the songs, but processed an update to the ipod and after that,it wouldn't work.  So, I'm not sure if we received a bum ipod, an update issue or we have a charger issue, but the cord we used to transfer the songs came from my son's brand new ipod touch.  We've also tried 2 other chargers from ipods we have in the house, 1 being a wall charger.
One individual posted online that he took his ipod classic, mac and phone overseas with one charger and it worked fine on all but the classic.  So, I'm thinking that they cords may not be universal.  Online I've read that it must be a 6 pin firewire, high power 2.0 usb cord.  Or that I need to purchase an applie charger.  We don't live close to an apple store and I'm reluctant to order one just to have it NOT work.
My daughter is learning the hard way that buying off of ebay is not always the best solution to a cash strapped 12 year old.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

  • IPod Dock Won't Charge iPod Classic 3rd Gen

    Hi,
I have an iPod Classic 3rd generation that is running Version 2.3 with the Capacity of 13.9 GB.
    Model: M946OCH
    It looks like this:
    http://profile.ultimate-guitar.com/profilemojo_data/5/8/5/1/585103/pics/_c297123_image0.png
The problem: this iPod Classic will not charge on ANY iPod Dock. No matter what brand or type, as long as it is the standard iPod Dock, it will not charge at all. It also has trouble playing songs and stops midway.
I have an iPod Touch 4th Gen and it works fine on the same dock.
Is there anything I can try to fix this problem for my iPod Classic? I tried connecting it to iTunes, restored it and updated it to the latest firmware.
Please try and solve this problem.

Playing songs doesn't work either. The first song will play for 30 so seconds then will stop and the iPod will freeze until I unplug it.
Is there any way to work around this problem. Maybe some type of an adapter that the iPod sits on, and the adapter then sits on the dock so that it can transmit everything properly. I do not believe that the only solution is just to buy an older dock.

  • My 4th gen iPod Touch won't charge

    Hi, folks:
Suddenly, my 4th generation iPod Touch won't charge. I don't mean it won't hold a charge; I mean it WON'T charge. There's no (peep!) when I attach it to a Mac, a Windows box, or to the wall. I've tried not only at my place but at my doctor's office, too, on his computer. Rats.
It fell three feet onto a concrete floor a week before this happened, so I'm unsure of cause/effect there. However, chances are most excellent that I touched it while filled with static electicity (my bed is exceedingly staticky). Maybe I touched the charging port? I have no idea, but I kinda sorta have a memory of having gotten a shock while touching my pod and wondering whether that was bad.
It'll be a couple more days before I can get to a Genius Bar (but thank cow I'm in New York City and have my pick of them!). In the meantime, can anyone calm me down about my situation? Do you imagine it's doomed (it IS still operable provided I keep it plugged in, though iTunes can't see it since it won't mount), or do you spose the installation of a new battery might bring my precious baby back to me? It IS freshly backed up (again, thank cow!), but I'm not in a position to buy a new one right now, and unfortunately, I don't know what to do with my eyeballs without a Touch in front of them.
Oh, how I hope someone can tell me that this has happened to him, and an Apple Genius merely did something magical and handed it back intact and amazing again so Ican cry happy tears. It's been four days and I'm just sick without it (and having to look at this gigantic Mac, with its large and beautiful text in many windows, means I can't RECLINE! WAAAAH!).
Thanks for any soothing words you have, and if you have sad ones, well, I'll vag up and read them, as I've prepared for the worst anyway (sob!). Just please deliver them gently.
    I appreciate it!

Wow, Kevin; that's a tantalizing theory! I don't like it (I *never* like to think about logic board damage for any piece of hardware), but it's tantalizing, as it would explain my pod seemingly charging out of thin air, and it'd also explain why my pod doesn't just DIE altogether from a dead battery.
I feel like an idiot: I have iTunes set to never sync automatically with my pod, so it never automatically recognizes the pod. I'll bet I could sync it if I clicked to "apply," as I've been downloading new apps since 2/21 (the last time I backed the pod up, mere minutes before it failed), but I don't want to risk not having a connection that's 100% and bollixing up what's on the pod now. (I'll be in the hospital for a day and will need something to read the whole time; I'll need an intact pod!)
Thanks for sticking with me, Kevin; I always like figgering things out, and your theory's interesting. I'll mention it to the Genius. It doesn't give me any hope, but not having any hope, I can always be pleasantly surprised, whereas if I go in all hopeful, someone can dash my dreams. This way, I'll prolly just have my expectations met.
I appreciate your talking it out with me a lot!

  • Ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2

ipod classic won't mount after updating to itunes 11.0.2.
I updated to itunes 11.0.2 today, after delaying it for a looong time (I have it @ work and don't like the new layout).
Since then, none of my ipods will mount/show up/update. I've tried all USB ports, 3 ipods, 3 cords. Wondering if you know of any issues. I've restarted the mac about 15-20 times today since as soon as I hook up an ipod, itunes immediately spins the beach ball and won't let me click out of it.
I've restarted the ipods 10+ times each.
All of the ipods DO show up on my desktop though. Just not in itunes anywhere with 11.0.2.
One more thing: It's not the cables or the ipods: they both mount fine when connected to my laptop (running old *** 10.4.11 and itunes 9.)
Machine is a Mac Pro running 10.6.8.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!
