My iPod classic wont connect to the computer. The light comes on but it doesn't even come up with 'connected' screen on the ipod. Have tried different computers, usb cables and ports, as well as restarting computer, updating itunes, and rebooting ipod. Still works in Logitech iPod player, however it has just wiped itself of all songs so at the moment I'm stuck with a useless iPod. Any suggestions please???

If you happen to have a USB docking cable that is new (or close to being new), try using that one.  If the cause is the dock connector on the iPod becoming worn, if you try it with a cable that is not worn, it's possible that it may connect for data.
I believe the dock connector is internally part of the logic board, so it may not be economical to have a repair shop (including Apple Store Genius Bar) do the repair.  You'll need to ask for pricing.
If you are good at such things, this web site has DIY repair guides

If it's the most recent iPod classic, it appears to be quite difficult to pry open.  I have an older 4th gen (and 3rd gen) "classic" iPod, and those are fairly eash to pry open, using the plastic tools.

  • Ipod classic wont connect

I recently purchased an iPod classic (120 gig) of of someone and when I first connected it to iTunes, it worked just fine. I clicked "restore" and it reset and everything. However, now when I connect it to iTunes, iTunes just freezes and the iPod just reads "do not disconnect". I'm running on an iMac and I have the latest iTunes update. Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    James

Had a similar problem, I am running windows. Resetting didn't work. So I put it in disk mode( center and play button immediately after reset). The computer recognized the IPod Classic 80G  but ITunes couldn't restore. It would say it did, but IPod classic still not working.. So I closed  ITunes after ejecting iPod, then I ejected IPod from computer. Then I unplugged from computer, Reset IPod and  put back in disk mode, made sure ITunes not open and would not open if the IPod was plugged in. Plugged IPod back into computer, open the "computer" window and find the IPod and right click to get menu. The I ran format to reformat the hard drive (make sure to unclick "fast" or "quick" format you need to do a low level format, I reformatted 3 times with quick format and it didn't work) After format is complete, it may take a while, almost 1hr for me, eject ipod and unplug from computer and reset if necessary. Then open ITunes and plug in IPod after a bit ITunes should recognize and tell you that you need to restore it. Restore IPod and reinstall your music.

  • Why doesn't my Ipod classic 160gb connect to my itunes so's I can back up the songs on my ipod???

All my music is on my Ipod. Have a new computer (Windows 8) with a some music. Want to back up my Ipod (like I used to 4 years ago) to disc and put it into my itunes library and as I add, I put new music to disc. Computer see's Ipod but won't let me do a back up. THE THE **** WITH THIS NEW VERSION??? :^0

There's nothing new about this with the latest version of iTunes. You have never been able to "back up" from an iPod to iTunes. Your music should be in your iTunes Library (and it's the Library that you should have backed up), what happened to it?
If you do have access to the old Library, copy it onto an external hard drive and paste it onto your new computer. Copy the complete iTunes Media folder.
If you don't have access to your old iTunes Library, then your options are to attempt to recover the music from the iPod, or re-build your Library from scratch.
To attempt recovery from the iPod, see this tip from user tt2; https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991 which includes a list of software that can help you.
To re-build the Library from scratch, any songs you have purchased from the iTunes Store should be downloadable again. Sign into your account in the store. (Some countries don't have this feature though.)
Digital (MP3) songs purchased through Amazon should also be downloadable again, by signing into your Amazon account. Any other MP3 stores should offer the same faciltiy.
For any music imported from CD, you will need to import it from CD again.

  • My iPod wont connect to my iTunes or Computer.

-I have a 160gb iPod Classic, and since I updated to iTunes 11.1 it wont connect to my computer or itunes but it still makes the noise when I plug in the usb. When I plug it in on my laptop (which is runnnig and older version of itunes) it connects just fine...Answers?
-For a little while it was comming up on the computer saying "a problem has been found with your device" but i did a scan and it found nothing wrong.

I have the same (or similar problem). I have an iPod Classic 160GB that locks up iTunes in Windows 8.1 when trying to sync, but connects just fine on another Windows 7 computer. I even wiped and restored the iPod to factory conditions (multiple times) and I get the same results. I can't use the Windows 8.1 computer to do anything with this particular iPod. Other iPods connect just fine and the one in question connects to any other computer I have tried. Apparently, iTunes is not really compatible with Windows 8.1. I have tried all the "solutions" I could find here for the last week. This resulted in days of lost time with no results.

  • TS1424 My iPod wont connect to the iTunes Store when I am about to buy an app what do I do?

My iPod wont connect to the iTunes Store when I am about to get an app when I go to enter my password it says it can't connect to iTunes Store. What do I do?

Don't worry a lot of people, including me, are having this problem.  I think it's a problem going on at Apple's end, hopefully it will be up soon.

  • When connecting my 120GB iPod Classic I receive the prompt; iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "Name". It asks me to reset it. All my music appears to have been erased  iPod yet 41GB of data is on it. Help!

When connecting my 120GB iPod Classic I receive the prompt; iTunes cannot read the contents of the iPod "Name". It asks me to reset it. If I do this I will lose the contents of the iPod. The iPod shows no music on it yet 41GB of data is on it under "About" on the iPOD itself. It would appear that the music files are still there. I don't want to reset the iPod as it will mean reloading a significant amount of music i.e. my entire CD collection. Any suggestions? Has my iPod died?

(I'll lose all my music right?)
That is correct. A restore wipes all content from the device, resets all settings back to their defaults, and loads a fresh copy of the iPod's software onto the device.
See this excellent user tip from another forum member turingtest2 outlining the different methods and software available to help you copy content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.
Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device
After all the music is safely in iTunes again, go ahead and restore the iPod to factory settings as it says.

  • My Ipod touch wont connect to itunes now. I updated my ipod and ever since then it wont connect to itunes. It gives me some sort of error.

So then I hold the power and home button at the time time to restart it. And itunes now tells me I need to update and restore my ipod to sync music again. So either I have the ipod connected to itunes and cant sync..or I update the ipod and cant connect it to itunes...HELP!!

    Hello,
If you have the latest version of iTunes, and nothing else is working, maybe putting the device into recovery mode will help.
To put the device into recovery mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
After you've done this, you should be able to restore your device. This will remove your data.

  • HT1923 Hi, my Ipod classic is not reflecting in Itunes (latest version) but I can see it in Computer as a hard disk. Kindly assist

    Hi,
My Ipod classic is not reflecting in Itunes which I have recently downloaded but it reflects in my computer as a hard disk.
    Please give me a solution.
    Thanks

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.
Also see these (if you haven't found them already):
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod
iPod does not appear in iTunes or on the desktop
iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes

  • IPod Classic 160GB not recognized by iTunes

I have an iPod Classic 160GB in version 2.0.4 that is not recognized by itunes.
It's about 2 years old and had presented a few problems with sincying in the past, but I hadn't tried to sync it for a while.
I've transfered all the music from my Windows PC to my Mac, and the iPod was Windows formated.
It started presenting a problem to transfer all my music content from iTunes (Mac) to the iPod, but after severel hours, it only transfered a few hundreded. I've tried it several times.
So, I tried to restore it, both in Windows and Mac PCs, but the problem persisted. A hard reset didn't solve it either.
But now I have a bigger problem. The iPod is not recognized by the iTunes anymore, and the program freezes anytime I try to connect ir. As soon as it is disconnected, everything is back to normal. But the Ipod always reboots.
It is recognized in the desktop tough.
Here's what I've already tried unsuccesfully:
    1. Hard Reset.
    2. Put it in disk mode. Still not recognized.
    3. Use Disk Utility. The disk verification says everything is in order. I've erased all content as well as format it in Mas OS Extended (Journaled). Later I've tried to erase it again but now displays a message error saying it cannot unmount the disk.
    4. Used differente USB ports.
    5. Saw all Apple support solutions. None worked.
    6. Researched a whole bunch of forums, including this one. Noticed a lot of people with the same problem, but had difficulty finding one more recent, so I decided to open a new discussion.
I would really appreciate any suggestions.
    Ipod Classic 160GB (2.0.4)
    Itunes (10.6)
    Mac OS Snow Leopard.
    Windows XP.

It seems to be working now. Amazing!
I would like to thank you both for the help, CaliforniaHighwaysGuy and AncientMumu.
Here's what I did. I wasn't getting folder acces from my Windows XP because it was Macintosh formated.
So I connected it again to the Mac and used an online tutorial to be able to access the hidden files through Terminal. (I'm not sure if it's allowed to post links to tutorials from other sites, but I'll look into the rules and post, if possible).
Had to relaunch FInder a few times as it stopped responding from time to time. Went to iPod_Control > iTunes and erased all the files.
Disconnected the iPod, as it was still not recognized by iTunes (10.6).
Connected it to my Windows, wich has the 10.4 version of iTunes. Restored (Windows format) it and disconnected.
Went back to the Mac, and it was recognized. I Didn't restore it.
I've already transfered one album and it synced just fine. (One of the problems I was having is that the music transfer was really slow).
Already reconnected the iPod and it was once again recognized after a few seconds.
I really appreciate all the help.
I'll try to updated this post in a few days saying if it's still working properly.

  • TS1363 iPod classic no longer recognised in iTunes (v11)

I have an 80gb iPod classic that, since I upgraded iTunes to the latest version in December 2012, no longer gets recognised within iTunes, so I cannot sync it anymore.
I am running a PC on windows 7, with iTunes v11 (the latest version as I have removed and replaced it several times in the last 24 hours).
My PC does recognise the iPod in "My Computer".
I have spent hours trying all sorts of Apple Troubleshooting guides, to no avail.
First I tried the reset: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Then I went through each of these steps: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363
I've also tried various different apple USB cables, and different USB ports on my PC.
My iPhone 4 connects no problem.
My iPod Classic used to connect no problem until I downloaded the latest / current version of iTunes.
Other than not being able to sync my ipod with itunes, the ipod works and behaves totally normal...
    VERY frustrating. PLEASE help.
    Thanks.
