My ipod classic worked yesterday in my car today it says unsupported.

my ipod classic 160gb worked great yesterday in my car but today when i try connected it, it says loading then unsupported. Help please!

Howdy CharChar7,
It sounds like you have been sing this attachment for your vehicle in the past with no issue, but now suddenly your iPod Classic says its not supported. To help isolate the issue to either the iPod itself, or the peripheral I would recommend that you use this article to troubleshoot the device:

  • Help!  iPod classic works with stereo, in car, but won't connect with PC

I've been to the Genius bar, my iPod classic works fine on their Mac and their Mac/PC. It works fine in my stereo and in my car. However, when I try to hook up with my Dell, it no longer recognizes it. I've uninstalled and re-installed the latest version of iTunes. (Also unintalled Quicktime, Apple Software Updater and the Apple Mobile software. When I try to connect (even bought a new cord, in case that was the issue), it thinks about it for a long time and never connects. Do I need to have a minumum amount of space on my hard drive in order for this to work (it's pretty full right now). Or is there something I'm doing wrong?

Since the latest firmware update to my iPod Classic (which is actually the latest video iPod in the larger form factor - not the new video nanos) - both Windows XP and Windows Vista both are reporting that my iPod only supports USB 1.1 interface. So if my BIOS or Windows settings had been set to NOT support USB 1.0/1.1 devices, they probably would not have even shown up in Windows. The strange thing is - this very same iPOD worked no problem in both Vista and XP on the very same machine - until the latest firmware update to the iPOD itself. I am still using the very same cable that used to work - it all showed up as USB 2.0 - now, only USB 1.1. I mention this because if you updated your iPOD firmware recently, perhaps you are experiencing the same thing. Check your BIOS and Windows USB drivers to ensure they support USB 1.1 because maybe that is what your iPOD is now trying to connect as - even though the hardware itself is USB 2.0. Just a thought - now if I could only figure out what happened to my new iPod that used to work so well.

  • My ipod classic works, but I can't see anything on my screen

My ipod classic works, but I can't see anything on my screen.  I tried doing a hard reset and restore to factory setting, but obviously I can't see if anything worked since my screen is not working.

    Hi Bababooey2uall,
It seems the display of your iPod Classic isn't working properly. Based on the information you have provided, it appears your iPod Classic needs to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • Will my ipod classic work with windows 8

I am finally updating my Windows XP desktop to a Windows 8 laptop.  Will my ipod classic work with Windows 8?  I've seen a ton of problems from other users with regard to compatibility.

Do yourself a big favor. Switch to Windows 7. (Or buy a Mac.)

  • How do I make my iPod classic work with iTunes 9.1

How do I make my iPod classic work with iTunes 9.1?

You are correct in some of your assertions, Limnos but, if I were to follow Apple's wishes, I would have to purchase the latest and greatest Apple product every month!  I refuse to do that.  I understand that my G4 is old but, it does what I need it to do.  To answer your question though, I purchased the iPod classic as a refurbished unit, about 5 years ago and had it replaced three times, since then so, there is no way for me to know how old it is.
From my knowledge of how the Classics work(which is extensive.)  It is basically a hard disk.  There should be of performing a low level format, plug it back in and the G4 should recognize the ROm and automatically search for the correct software associated with that version of iPod and load it but, Apple will most likely no longer carry the software on their servers anymore!(surprise, surprise.)

  • My iPod classic was stolen from my car is there away to recover it

My iPod Classic was stolen from my car is there away to use iTunes to recovery it ?

The only way that you can track it, is if you had find my iPhone app on, and it needs to be connected to a wi-fi network.  You should change your iTunes password as soon as possible.

  • Hi there. My iPod Nano was stolen from my car today. I do know the serial number of this stolen device. Is there any way that Apple can block another user from connecting this stolen device to iTunes?

Hi there. My iPod Nano was stolen from my car today. I do know the serial number of this stolen device. Is there any way that Apple can block another user from connecting this stolen device to iTunes? Also, if another user was to attempt to connect this stolen device to iTunes, would Apple be able to inform of the username of this person in order that I could then pass this information to the police?

    No.

No. Apple can do nothing to help. Sorry.

  • Ipod classic won't connect to car stereo

I have a three year old iPod classic - and it no longer will connect to my car stereo - i drive a 2006 volvo xc-70. I plug it in - and it doesn't register or recognize that the iPod is even connected. the ipod stays charged, so i presume that the cable is still connected properly to the stereo - and it works when connected to other devices. is there new firmware or updates that are not compatible?

Ok, I'm not familiar with the model of head unit you refer to. Maybe it's simply not possible to connect this way.
Is it at all possible to contact the manufacturer and get there advice.
As I said, I've never come across a car head unit that connects an iPod via a usb connection. My Kenwood unit has a usb connection and will not recognize an iPod connected in this manner (using the iPod cable). The Kenwood needs the specific iPod multi pin connector.
Also, simply connecting via usb will probably not supply a charge to the iPod from the head unit.

  • Does the iPod Classic work with USA SPEC interfaces

I am very intrested in purchasing a iPod Classic and a USA SPEC PA11-CHR iPod interface to connect the iPod to the factory radio in my truck. The problem is that nobody seems to know if the new iPod Classic will work with this interface, not even USA SPEC. Does anyone have any experiece with this? I have heard that the new iPod Nano's work with this interface, but not like they should. Any info on the Classic and its compatability with this interface would be greatly appreciated.

I'm currently using an integration system from NEO car audio in my Mazda 3(which I'm sure all our integration kits are some variation of the same exact unit), not a cheep upgrade either. And I'm having the same lockout issues, "connected to accessory". I somehow managed to bypass it once, and get back to the main menu, but have yet to do it since that one accidental time. The system worked PERFECT with my 60G 5th gen. Apple should have made it a little more clear that they were going to attempt to control every aspect of our lives once we purchased the new ipod. Hey look, guess since they started using PC parts they thought it would be ok to become just like Windows "you will do it our way or not at all"
I will return my 160g classic as well, and go back to my 60g Video. I may consider buying the 160 again later down the road, once Apple has stopped taking what ever drugs they are on that’s impaired their judgment to the point of stupidity. They even disabled the video out, you have to purchase their "NEW" video cable in order to hook the classic up to your tv or av system.
    MORE THAN UPSET!!!
Apple get a grip! If you start down this road, you will loose the large following that has taken YEARS for you to gather. Are you sure you want to start this now?

  • How can I make my brand new 160GB iPod Classic work?

I bought a 160GB Ipod Classic in January and have just tried to use it for the first time and it has been a disaster! I have spent hours trying to use it and failed. I have been using iTunes for some time now and have recently successfully set up Squeezebox to use the iTunes music I have uploaded from my CDs.
All started well - my system recognised the new hardware and iTunes started. I registered and said I wanted to synch my music and my photos and away it went. After 2-3GB of uploads I got an error saying
"The Owner's iPod cannot be synced. The required folder cannot be found." On pressing 'OK' it then said I'd got an unknown error. Pressing 'OK' again took me back to the first error message. I then tried everything I coould including relaoding iTunes and eventually got it started again. This time it got up to about 8GB (of about 10.5GB) before abending in the same way. Since then I have failed to take another step forward in many hours.
When I connect the iPod to my PC sometimes it appears briefly in 'My Compter' then disappears. Then the errors loop thus:-
START:The iPod itself says "Connected" the a few seconds later it says "Ejecting"
The device manager has a USB Mass Storage Device with an exclamation mark on a yellow background which then says
"Windows cannot use this hardware device because it has been prepared for'safe removal' but it has not been removed from the computer (code 47). To fix this problem, unplug the device from your computer and then plug it in again"
Doing this the causes the process to sytart again from START above.
On one occasion only, after a few hours trying, I got a message "Your iPod need to be reformatted to work with Windows" and it opened up iTunes and then sat and did nothing.
Running the diagnostics in iTunes says "No iPod found". The diagnostic information is set out below:

Have solved my own problem. My PC sits on the floor so I have a four-port USB hub on my desktop with one port in use. I use one of the other three ports for USB-related task. As I was shutting down for the night I had a - what turned out to be inspired - thought about whether there was an adequate power supply from the hub. I then tried the iPod USB connection directly into the front of my machine and everything worked. It seems that an inadequate power supply was the cause of this strange set of conditions.

  • Will a 6gen audio jack for ipod classic work if installed into a 5gen ipod classic?

i think i might of ordered an ipod 6 gen audio jack and hold button for my ipod classic 5 gen and when i installed it it makes the clicking noise when the wheel is spun but when i want to listen to music it wont send audio through my headphones or anything is it the audio jack that's broken or is it just not compatible?

See my response to your other post.  I assume a 6G hold switch and headphone jack would work, but again only assume, so maybe not.

  • Will an iPod classic work with iTunes anymore ?

I have an iPod classic set up playing music through my cars speakers but haven't updated the music or iTunes software for years.
Will I be able to add music to it now through my iMacs latest iTunes ?
    Thanks
    Steve

    When you connect the iPod to iTunes, there is a Check for Update button on the Device/Summary pane;
If there is an update (unlikely for the iPod Classic) a couple of clicks will do it all for you.
Since you mention the length of time since you last connected the iPod to iTunes, be aware that if you connect the iPod to a different iTunes Librayr to its previous one, a Sync will remove the content from the previous Library. So hopefully, you will be conencting it to that old Library.
It would be a wise move to update iTunes if it's a while since you have done so. On the iTunes menu, use Help/Check for Updates.

  • HT1351 Have downloaded one playlist in my ipod classic, works fine, now downloaded another, can't figure out how to access it??into playlist from there goes to On-the-Go. How do I access Playlist 2????

Just got this Ipod classic,  little greek to me,      Have downloaded one playlist,   works fine,   now  tried to download a second , which  I believe it did, out of my Itunes library,  but how is it listed in my Ipod    , scoll down to playlist, then what?    seems to always go to On-the-Go then what ???    Thanks   Dan

When you go into the Playlists menu of your iPod Classic, you should see a list of the Playlists you have downloaded from your iTunes Library - and the On-The-Go Playlist. If you can only see the On-The-Go Playlist, that suggests that you have not successfully downloaded any Playlists.
Playlists are separate from the songs. The songs, albums etc. etc. will be listed under those menu headings on the Main Menu.
The On-The-Go Playlist is a feature that allows you to create Playlists on the iPod. Initially, and after each Sync with iTunes, the On-The-Go should be empty. If you create one, you can save it on the iPod and it will be transferred back to the iPod at Sync time and renamed as On-The-Go X (X is the next available number). If you create and save one on your iPod, it will be named on the iPod as New Playlist X, but renamed as On-The-Go X when Synced with iTunes.

  • Ipod classic works, nano and shuffel dont anymore!

Someone please help! My sons are driving me crazy! My 160gb classic works on itunes but my kids ipod nano and shuffel no longer do,they used to but they are not even recognised when connected to my computer! I have tried everything that "Apple" have advised but nothing seems to cure this problem!

I also had this problem last week.  in the meantime,  I have upgraded Itunes in Maverick.  when i connected this am -  it took about 15 minutes for the connected iPod to show in itunes with message " ITunes cannot read the information on this IPod"   there was an "OK" button underneath the message.   select OK.   the iPod will show as empty onscreen and a prompt to reset to factory settings.   I reset to factory settings - ejected iPod - restarted computer - connected iPod - ITunes then treated my iPod as "new" - for setup.  now after sync - ALL IS FINE AGAIN...
