My ipod classics clicker will not work

my ipod classics clicker will not work so i can not turn it off or on i cant play music or anything please help

Have you checked the 'Hold' button at the top left of your Classic to make sure it didn't get bumped into the ON position?
If it's been moved to the right and you can see the red indicator, then 'Hold' has been switched on and none of the buttons on the iPod will work.
What happens if you plug your iPod into a charger or connect it to iTunes?

My ipod classic headport is not working properly.  The sound keeps going in and out.  I have tried changing headphones and checking the settings.  Does anyone have any ideas?

    Do a Hard Reset
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

If the sound is still the same, but ok, coming from the bottom Dock connector, then try cleaning the headport, using a jet of air or some electronic cleaner.

  • My iPod touch 4G will not work after I tried to Downgrade it from iOS 5 to iOS 6

My iPod touch 4G will not work after I tried to Downgrade it from iOS 5 to iOS 6. The screen is black and it doesn't work.

Downgrading the iOS is not supported by Apple.
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Ipod Classic wheel will not sync with ITunes 11.0.4.4

My IPod classic wheel will no longer sync with the ITunes program on my Windows XP system. When plugged in with cord, the IPod acts as if it is syncing. ITunes shows the eject button for the IPod, but it isn't recognized as a device by ITunes. Our IPad and IPhones will sync.
Does anyone have any ideas? Would appreciate any help you have. I had just reloaed my entire ITunes library after losing everything except what was purchased but didn't think that should be a reason for the IPod to quit syncing. HELP!

  • My iPod touch speaker will not work in music.

After updating to iOS 4.3.3 my iPod touch(3rd generation) will no longer play music threw the speaker. It may play for a split second and it stops and the volume bar goes away along with the function of the volume buttons. The speaker will not work right away but eventually will return, it still works for youtube and and everything else but music.

  • 30GB iPod Classic Buttons do not work

    Hi guys,
My iPod classic buttons suddenly stopped working today (apart from when I do the reset with Menu + select which is odd).
I have tried to restore, format, reinstall itunes, reset multiple times but none of this works.
The iPod is now just stuck on the select language screen that you get to after restoration.
    What do I do?

I saw that...  And I said that if the Hold swtich is not ON, and you have already done a Restore, it is likely to be a hardware-related problem on the iPod.  It sounds like the iPod is seeing that the Hold switch is ON, even when it is in the OFF position.

  • IPod mini click wheel not working

Tuesday i was listening to my ipod and it worked just fine. the click wheel was working and everything was okay. i put it on my ihome to charge that night and left it there until i got home from school the next day. it worked fine in the morning(wednesday) when my alarm went off. wednesday night i took it off my i home and my click did not work at all. the buttons work but i can't scroll thru my songs or change the volume. it still has it's original battery so i know that's not what could have damaged it. between the time that it did work and the time i discovered it didn't it was not dropped or exposed to any extremes. i have reset it several times and restored to the factory setting and nothing has worked. please help!! i have had it for almost 2 years so it's out of warranty. is there anything i can do to fix it myself? i don't have the money to service it.

Hi to both of you, and welcome to Apple Discussions!
Well, if resets and restores are not helping, the clickwheel is malfunctioning. If you don't have the money to have Apple service it, would you be able to buy a new part?
If you can't buy a new part... Your only option is to open the bottom of the mini, slide the clickwheel out, dissasemble the clickwheel, put it back together, and reconnect it. It may sound like a lot, but it's pretty easy. I've had to do it on my blue mini, but realize that this may not solve the problem and if it does, last forever. I finally had to get a new clickwheel. Visit: theipodmini.blogspot.com for instructions, which is my site dedicated to the mini.

  • My Ipod 4th gen will not work without the charger.

My ipod nano 4th gen will not work without the charger.

How much it costs depends on who you have replace the battery whether that be Apple or a 3rd party repair company.  Here are Apple's prices.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
It would likely be much cheaper to have a 3rd party company do it instead.  One company I have heard a lot of good things about is iResq.  For others, do a simple Google search for "iPod battery repair" and you should get a plethora of results.

I don't believe Radio Shack does offer that service.  Sorry.

  • How can I update my iPod classic that will not mount on iMac computer?

I can't update my iPod classic from my iTunes on my iMac computer with OSX 10.9.  It will not mount or be recognized by iTunes version 12.1.
I plug it into the USB port and it charges, gives the "Do not disconnect" symbol but the computer does not recognize or mount the iPod at all.  I haven't been able to update the music for years. I have four other devices associated with my Apple ID for automatic downloads. Is it too antiquated to upload any of my music from my computer to it anymore?

    Ahh! The plot thickens!
I went thru the console and read the error logs. It appears that the .ipsw file does load.....I think. It's been years since I spoke computer....
Here is what I got after double clicking the .ipsw file and iTunes opened:

  • I have a 6th gen ipod classic that will not turn on...

    So,
As the title says that is what I have, however, here are more specifics and what I have done so far...
The ipod will not power on. When I try to turn it on, the logo appears, then it seems to power cycle. Now, onto what I have tried thus far...
I have tried the reset using the menu/center button combos several times and it just does the same thing. I have also tried to plug it into my windows 7 pc, and utilizing Itunes "restore" it. I will quickly back up and state that when I plug it in, Itunes will recognize that it is an Ipod, and display a msg saying that an ipod is plugged in that may be corrupted, please restore it. After I click the "restore" button, itunes will start to extract the s/w to restore it, then an error msg pops up and says "unknown error - 1415" - "unknown error - 1439". Now, I will say that when I plug it in and try to restore it, the first time around it gives me the 1439 code. Subsequently, it will give me the 1415 error if I try to repeat the process. I will unplug it and try again, and the same exact pattern occurs, 1439 on first attempt after plugging into itunes, and then 1415 subsequently. I have read several other forums to no avail possible solutions.
At this point, Im feeling like the only option left is to pay a visit to my local apple store. BUT, before I do that I wanted to see if any experts might have a solution for me here! PLEASE HELP! Im using my shuffle right now, but I really want to get this classic running again! I do have screenshots of all my errors and what itunes shows me in case anyone might want that stuff. In any case, I digress...

Thank you Bilbo! I was trying to find the instructions on how to do this, but was unable to locate them until you pointed me to it!
After running the diag, it shows me error...
    [Device Opened]
    Error
    Menu to continue
From the information Ive read on this occurance, my HD is shot? Is this true or likely? What would be recommended as the next step?

  • TS1363 iPod Classic 160gb will not connect to Macbook.

My iPod classic will not connect to my macbook. It is recognized by my wall charger, speakers, and FM transmitter in my car. I've had this trouble for some time, but before I attributed to my previous Macbook which had a few other problems. However I just got a new macbook, and it is still not coming up in Finder nor iTunes. Any advice is much appreciated!

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue? Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your Mac?  Have you tried another USB cable just in case?

  • I have an old ipod classic that will not show up on my mac or itunes?

i purchased an older ipod classic, my cousin bought it for me for my b day. he even put songs on it from his computer for me. it gave him no issues. but my new mac book pro does not recognize it. it does not show up on the computer or on itunes. i don't know what to do! it shows up on all my cousin's computers but mine. i feel like mine must be missing a file that allows my mac to see it. when i connect it to my mac it says the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.

    Hello there, bayoudure.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great steps for trouleshooting issues with your iPod not being recognized by your Mac:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support
Follow these steps to resolve your issue:
If you haven't connected your iOS device to this computer before, unlock the device and tap Trust. Learn more about the Trust This Computer alert.
    Restart your iOS device.
    Restart your Mac.
Make sure that your Mac meets the minimum system requirements for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Install software updates on your Mac.
If an iTunes update is available, apply the update.
Check USB connections. iOS devices need USB 2.0 to work properly. If you're not sure your Mac has USB 2.0 ports, check the computer's specifications.
Disconnect other USB devices and connect your device directly to a USB port on your Mac.
    Try another USB cable.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Ipod Classic 160 will not synch with Itunes

Message from Itunes when I connect Ipod Classic 160 is "Software required for communicating with the Ipod is not installed correctly. Please reinstall Itunes" I have reinstalled 7.6 several times and tried 7.5 but nothing works. I have tried the 5R's. Nothing. When I connect the Ipod to another older Seanix with Itunes 7.5, it works. Can anybody out there solve this problem. I have been going round and round for 10 hours. Cheers.

  • Trackpad click will not work

    Hi,
I have a Macbook Pro and the trackpad is working, but will not click on either the bottom left or right.  Anyone ever have this problem?  Any help would be appreciated.  Also, would Apple fix it for free if less than 1 year old?  I would like to see if there is something I can do without having to take it apart before I bring it in to the store.
    Thanks!

Also, would Apple fix it for free if less than 1 year old?
Yes.  You are still under warranty.  Call Apple tech support first.
I would like to see if there is something I can do without having to take it apart before I bring it in to the store.
Let AppleCare deal w/it.  You should never take your computer apart as long as it is under warranty and/or you have AppleCare.  If you mess up, your warranty will be voided.
I have a Macbook Pro and the trackpad is working, but will not click on either the bottom left or right.
Did you check your trackpad settings in System Preferences?  You make no mention of doing so.

  • IPod Classic Scroll Wheel not working

    Hello-
My scroll wheel sometimes does not work, and sometimes is very jumpy (therefore hard to choose the track I want). Can the wheel be cleaned? Or is there any troubleshooting that can be done?

I bought a new iPod classic today, got it home loaded my music and then sat down to check out the new features. Right off the bat, :"what the **** is wrong with the scroll wheel". after trying to convince myself nothing was wrong i did a search and found out a lot of people are having the same problem. It takes at least a second for it to start responding, its jumpy, sluggish, difficult, all things i've never experienced from an ipod before. This would be my 3rd ipod, 2 died, i've probably used 15-20 others through friends and work, and I'm returning my ipod classic tomorrow, its a bummer, sounds like the 5th gen ones are better.
