My ipod connects to the pc but...

hey, yeah so basically I got a nice new 4G ipod nano it works nicely by itself but the main problem is that when I tried connecting the ipod to my pc and click on "my computer" it just freezes/just hangs there, I also tried to click on my computer first and then connect the ipod and found out that windows detects it but when I click on the drive icon it just freezes/locks up as well. Also itunes doesn't detect it...The ipod seems fine as the lcd was showing a "do not d/c" message and was charging when it was connected. I tried a lot of things and some methods don't work since they lock up at a certain point such as when I tried changing driver letters through disk manager it fails to display the drivers intill I d/c my ipod from the computer and when I tried reinstalling the usb driver that has the ipod it just freezes when I tried uninstalling it... I meet all the requirements for the ipod nano and this never happened before with my other devices, I was wondering if anyone can give me any solutions on this matter? thank you in advance

Ahhh... This was the clue I needed after combing the web for an answer. I lost half a weekend on this problem. I used MSCONFIG to disable "res.exe" during Startup. This is related to the USB Storage Toolbox you mention. i didn;t even know I had this app, and I don't use USB storage on this machine, so I went ahead and disabled it. After I connected the dots, I figured out I could probably have re-run Install like you did.
For anyone who has this problem, the Setup program on my machine was in C:\Program Files\USBToolbox.

Our IPod connects to the WIFI, but not to the internet. We have a wireless router which we connect our MACBOOK to the internet and our IPod. The MACBOOK works fine, but not the IPod. It shows to be connected to WIFI, but whenever we try to connect to an internet site i.e. Sarfari, we get an message "Safari cannot open the page becuase it is not connected to the internet". We have tried rebooting, but it has not helped.

Try:
- Resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
- Power off and then back on the router
- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Setting
- iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections

This reply is about problems with Playbook connecting WPA2 wifi networks.
I would suggest to check what kind of wifi network you are trying to connect to. If its an WPA2, this might help.
I was having the same issue until yesterday.
After spending a couple of nights dealing with BB Support techs, I came up with these steps and worked for me, even though that Playbook should connect automatically as other devices do. Moreover, of course I am not going to ask everyday the IT guys for a router reset.
So here it goes :
1- If you own a lap top/pc connected to your work Wifi network, open the network adapter window on the PC. Go to wifi adapter and left-click on properties in order to display detailed connection status.
2- From there you may obtain a valid subnet mask, Default Gateway, Primary DNS and Secondary DNS.
3- Since the IP Address was already obtained by your Playbook while trying to connect, it will be asking for the same IP each time, so write down the Playbook IP too. You can access it from the wifi? Icon on the wifi configuration screen on the playbook.
(The issue here was that for some reason, my Playbook on "auto IP mode" was choosing a different default
gateway number than the correct one. I still can't figure why, but I'm not going to invest more time on it, until a new software update becomes available and go from there.)
4- In your playbook tap the wifi icon and go to saved networks, tap on edit (pencil) and delete the troubled wifi connection.
5- Create manually a new wifi connection and unselect "auto IP mode". You will have the opportunity to copy all the information mentioned above. IP, Subnet Mask, Primary DNS. Secondary DNS and Default Gateway.
6- Tap save and connect.
Hopefully your Playbook will be online and ready to navigate.

Yep add me to that list too, and I have tried the menu and select button on the ipod all that happens is the contrast goes very faint, tried the combo thing and it tells me it can't be installed on this computer, tried the 5 R's on the ipod frequent question page, all do nothing, totally un impressed with Apple for the first time, never had any problems but version 8 of itunes really needs bugging out before it was released, if anyone has any other ideas please do add them as I have just bought a whole load of music which is sat on my library and cant move to ipod...oh and I have also tried the create a new account and see if that works, well I could see the ipod but couldnt transfer the contents back to itunes - sooooooo unhappy can't do apple care as classic ipod is way past 2 years

When I connect my 30 gb iPod to the computer, the "do not disconnect" screen appears on the iPod, but it does not show up on a Source list on iTunes nor does it update. The iPod does appear in the Finder, so I know the connection is made. I have OSX 10.4.11 and just updated to iTunes 8, but this problem occurred prior to the update (I was hoping the update would solve the problem!). What to do???

My 2nd gen works fine with WPA2 and AES encryption.
You may need to go back and start over. Reset the router back to factory defaults, log on as the admin, set up security, DHCP, and make sure the IP address pool has enough IP addresses to lease to ALL of the computers/devices that will connect to that the router.

"Connected" to the internet, but can't get on any websites or other pgms...

A couple nights ago, there was a blackout at my house. This happened while my iMac was on.
It connects using the Airport wireless modem to my landlord's router 3 stories up.
Since the blackout, I've been "connected" to his network, but haven't been able to get on any websites. Do I simply need him to reset his router, or is there a deeper problem? Thanks!
FWIW, this did happen very rarely before the blackout, but is now 100% of the time since....

A UPS (Uninterruptible power supply) is a battery back up, so if you power goes out you can finish up what you're working on and shut down normally.
I had a similar incident this week, power went out all computers, modem and router went out. After power was restored all started up fine and looked good. Wireless router showed I was connected to the internet but could not surf any site. I had changed my email account password several weeks earlier (email account provided by my ISP) and did not think this had anything to do my boradband connection, but I was wrong.
To make a long story short, I had to update the password as it related to my broadband connection. The connection was there, it just did not recognize my new password because I had changed it... If you control the account and you've changed any passwords associated with account yu will have to update or your landlord will have to update... make sense?
