My Ipod deleted 2/3rds of my songs...

My Ipod deleted at random over 2/3rds of my music. This was in between uses in which I turned it off and then about 5 hours later when I turned it on the songs I was looking for were not there. There was nothing spilled on it and I did not charge it during this 5 hour span. The Ipod just deleted the songs for some reason. My Ipod was my backup for my music. My laptop was stolen with all of my music on it so I was counting on my Ipod to place my music on my new computer. This couldn't happen because my Ipod deleted my music. I have been using Itunes to buy my music and I wanted to know if there is anything Apple can do to help me retrieve the music which my Ipod deleted that I bought through the Itunes Music Store. Can Apple let me re-download the songs I have bought through the Itunes Music Store so I can retrieve my music?

You've discovered now that the iPod makes an extremely poor music backup.
Have no idea how your iPod would have deleted 2/3 of your music. There are cases where the index becomes corrupted and all music becomes "Other". How big is "Other" on your iPod now, has it grown considerably? Did you perhaps connect this iPod to a computer to charge it?
Music is normally one time only for downloads. You can contact the iTunes Store and throw yourself on their mercy and see if they will let you download them again. And in the future you need to backup your music to an external hard drive or DVD.

    I have an ipod touch 32gb. Model: MC008BT Version: 5.1.1. 3rd ed.
Recently when clicking play on any song the ipod will shuffle through as many songs as there are in the album or playlist until it reaches the end without playing any songs. It also does not go through each song. For example:
a 62 song playlist. I start on song 16. Immediatly the song will shuffle: 16-26-54-62 and then back to the main screen. Also when the songs are shuffling the play button in the top right corner is on.
Music will play if i start from track one with shuffle turned off and repeat turned on. But then i am limited each time to 1-5 songs.
Ipod has been in excellent working order since this has happened.
any suggestions on how to fix?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

  • IPod touch 5th generation deleted over 2000 of my songs

Hi. I rarely resort to forums like this to fix a problem but I can't seem to find anyone who's had the same issue.
Today I connected my iPod touch 5th generation to my Windows 8.1 PC to sync some songs onto it. I ripped some of them from a CD, others I got from Home Sharing with my brother. I tried to sync 12 songs to my iPod. At first, it looked like 8 of them had synced correctly, not greyed out or empty bubbles. I tried to add the rest and they refused to sync. All the songs from Home Sharing refused to sync to my iPod.
I tried something I normally try after an issue like this occurs - I select all the songs I've downloaded/ripped/gotten from homeshare and right click and select Create MP3 Version. I have my import settings as MP3 because I have other devices that also use my ripped music. I deleted the original versions after the new copies were made and moved them to recycle bin. Deleted the greyed out songs from my iPod and all the ones i'm trying to resync, and put the new versions on. It got stuck on syncing for about 20 minutes, making me late for something so I canceled the sync, ejected it, and unplugged it.
Got into my car, plugged my iPod into the AUX cable on my stereo, and my iPod started skipping all of the songs I had put on. I tried another playlist to see if it was corrupted music files, and it does this for nearly every song on my iPod. I have a 64GB iPod touch, with over half the space still empty. 3760 songs. I put my iPod on shuffle to see if it would play anything, and it quickly skips about a hundred songs at a time, whether play or pause is selected, and won't stop till it gets to a song that decides it wants to play. I plugged it into my computer when I got back, and it tried to put 670-something songs back on my iPod, so I figure hey maybe it'll fix itself. Nope. Now when I open up my music app on my iPod it says I have 909 songs, and it won't sync new songs to it. I have tried soft resets. I take care of this iPod. Never dropped it, dented it, or anything. No damage of any kind this iPod is my baby. It is just freshly out of warranty and I also have music on here from multiple computers as we have 4 computers in my house and my old laptop which no longer functions due to a hardware error and there are some gaps between my iPod library and my iTunes library, so I haven't tried to restore it yet because I'm trying to save my music. At this point I feel a restore from backup is my best option.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

  • I recently was given someone elses ipod touch.  There are some songs on there I want to keep and many I want to delete.  Is there a way to upload the songs to my mac  so I can add them to a play list I have and delete the one's I don't want?

I recently was given someone else's ipod touch.  It has some songs I would like to keep, but most I would like to delete without losing the one's I like.  Is there anyway to either upload songs to itunes in my mac or sync a playlist with the ipod without erasing all the music currently on the ipod.  Also, is there a way to delete specific tunes on the ipod?
    Thanks.

There is no legal way to do this-  You would need to be using the same AppleID (account)
As far as deleting the songs, in a situation like this, you should restore the iPod which will delete the songs as well as allow you to sync your own music.
For instructions on how to delete/add songs  it's best to check the manual:
    http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipod
As far as restoring, you didn't mention what model you are using but just choose your model from here (they have step by step instructions):

  • ITunes closes down, songs on iPod deleted

    Dear all
I can use iTunes ok as long as my iPod is not plugged in. If I plug it in to update it, however, iTunes immediately closes down. If I close iTunes, connect the iPod, then go back in to iTunes, the same thing happens. Also, this has deleted all the tracks on my iPod, although they are still there on iTunes.
I've seen some other notes about what sounds like a similar problem. Do I need to restore the iPod? I'm reluctant to do this unless I have to partly because I'm on a dialup connection, and have seen a reference to the updater software being 50MB, and also it looks like this will delete all my tracks from iTunes.
Advice would be very welcome ...

    Christine,
Presumably you have the iPod set to automatically transfer the songs when you connect it to iTunes, right?
What happens when you connect it? Does iTunes recognize it?

  • Ipod deleted existing songs when performing a sync

    Hi,
My Ipod deleted existing songs when performing a sync. Please advise on how to restore the files that have been deleted from the IPod.
    Best Regards,
    John Joseph

    Hey there,
How do you have your iPod set to sync music? Are the 825 songs still taking up space as other on your iPod? To look, just head in the your iPod's settings and click on About to view details.
I would try restoring the iPod in iTunes and setting it up to "automatically sync" with your iTunes library. Also, if you have it set to sync all checked songs and videos that each song you are trying to sync has a check mark next to it and that disk use is not enabled on it.
    Hope this helps.

You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other music you will have to get them from where you originally got them

I bought a used ipod touch that had 2200 bad songs.  Unfortunately I decided to delete them before I started purchasing music.  EVERYTHING was deleted.  The screen is blank except for the itunes emblem.  Help!

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.

  • HT1481 How do I get rid of my music on my ipod shuffle and re enter new songs?

How do I get rid of old songs on my ipod shuffle and re enter new songs??

This is document lists the four iPod shuffle models and the ways to sync music to the shuffle.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1719
The way you remove songs depends on the model (1st and 2nd gen versus 3rd and 4th gen), and the method being used to add songs.  I don't know your specifics (please provide), I'll go with one possibility...
You have a 4th (current) gen shuffle and you use the manual method to load the shuffle, by dragging songs to the shuffle from your iTunes library in iTunes (or using the Autofill feature). If that is your shuffle model and how you load it...
First, in the latest iTunes, the sidebar can be hidden.  To show it, go up to the menu bar, under View, and select Show Sidebar.
To remove songs, select the shuffle in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  "Drop down" its content list, which is indented below the iPod.  Click on Music there.  Over to the right, you see a list of songs currently on the shuffle.  Select the song you want to remove, and hit the Delete key on keyboard.  Confirm action.  You can do this with one song, a selection of songs, or the entire list (by selecting Select All from the File menu).
If you have a 1st or 2nd gen shuffle, or you use automatic syncing (not manual loading or Autofill), please post back.

  • When connected to iTunes, my iPod 6th generation shows all the songs and playlists in it but with exclamation points. When disconnected, it is empty.

    Hi there!
I bought an iPod touch 6th generation about a year ago and it was working perfectly until now. On Tuesday, I updated -manually- like six songs to my iPod and it appeared like it worked but when I disconnected it the songs weren't on my iPod. Since then I tried the same twice and it wasn't until today that I looked for the songs on the iPod while it was connected to iTunes. The songs were there, but they appeared as if the iPod was still trying to copy them, I deleted them and copy them again and it finally worked.
The problem was when I unplugged the iPod and open my music there... all my songs were missing except for those six ones I copy minutes before. I connected it back to iTunes and everything was right were it was supposed to be but my iPod still had the most recent songs. When I try to play the songs appearing on the iPod music on iTunes, an exclamation point appears beside them.
I read it is because it can't find where the music came from but I haven't found a way to let the iPod know the songs are still there. I would really appreciate your help because I don't want to lose my music and playlists.

The ! means the actual music files can't be found.
If the ! is in iTunes on the computer the redownload/reimport the songs.
