My Ipod deleted all my music! (2nd time)

It's so frustrating! My Ipod has always had connection problems. It disconnects from car Ipod hookups, and when I plug it into the computer, all it takes is a slight brushing against the cord to make it eject unprovoked. BUT this is the second time it has deleted almost all of my music unprovoked! I will plug it in, and (this time) it said something like "verifying Ipod" ... When I ejected it over 5,000 songs had vanished. I know you can restore the Ipod and re-sync... but the problem is I have taken music from friends computers, my brother, boyfriend etc. and I can't remember which songs I did and did not have before. PLUS it takes forever to do/restore playlists etc...... Is there something I am doing wrong? Or should I bring it into Apple? I don't have any warrenties etc but it's only 2 years old

If you're in the US, you might also be able to get the music back besides the apps. Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise you've lost your music purchases

  • My iPod deleted all my music and playlists on the iPod when synching!

I turned on wifi on my iPod and opened up iTunes today to add music to the iPod. It was doing fine, then suddenly a song I was adding froze (it stayed grey on iTunes with a synching icon by it). It stayed like that for I don't know how long, I thought it was fine and so I wasn't looking. I look back a while later and every song on my iPod as displayed on iTunes has an exclamation point by it. I look at my iPod and it says "No Music." iTunes still knows all my playlists and songs and shows my iPod as having them all, except for all the exclamation points.
What happened, and how do I get all my music and playlists back?
I have an iPod Touch 4g with iOS 5, and iTunes 10.

Currently trying to do a restore from a backup I made about a week ago. I don't know if that will help; I'll update when it's done.
    EDIT: Music still gone.

Yes. Since you don't say what computer OS you have, tryYamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
It has both Mac and Windows versions.

  • Delete content, My iPod 4 deleted all my music and videos for the third time. What can I do to stop this?, My iPod 4 deleted all my music and videos for the third time. What can I do to stop this?

iPod deletes all music and videos, I synced it with iTunes, but after some time it deletes again.

To stop this, don't use the same Apple ID on both phones for iMessage and FaceTime.  (You can continue to use the same ID for iTunes; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID used for iMessage or FaceTime.)
On one of the phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • I have an ipod touch and i just bought a new laptop, because i lost mine. i try to sync the music in the itouch to my new laptop but it asks me if i want to delete all my music before syncing  what should i do?

i have an ipod touch and i just bought a new laptop, because i lost mine which has all the data of my itouch. i try to sync the music in the itouch to my new laptop but it asks me if i want to delete all my music before syncing  what should i do?

You should use your backup copy of your computer to put everything on the new computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.
The ipod will sync with one computer at a time. Syncing to another will erase teh content from the ipod.

  • How can I connect my ipod to a new computer without deleting all my music

I just got a brand new laptop and when I connected my ipod and iphone 4 it prompts to syns a delete everything.  How can I avoid that.  I tried using the manual setting, but once I press apply it asks again to sync and delete all my music. Is there any other way to accomplish this?

That's exactly the way it is designed to work.
When you attempt to sync your iDevice with a new computer/library, iTunes will wipe the contents of the device and replace it with the contents from the library on the new computer.
To avoid losing content, first copy or move the media from your old computer to your new computer.  Once this is done, the iDevice can be synced without worrying about iTunes removing the content as it can be synced back.

  • My iPod just randomly deleted all my music, but I no longer have the computer where I synced it to. Can I still get my purchased tracks if I download iTunes on another computer?

If for some reason you failed to maintain a backup copy of your computer ( not good), then you can redownlaod some itunes content in some countries:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • When I sync my ipod classic with iTunes it deletes all the music on my ipod

Hi everyone, I have an ipod classic 160GB and when I try to sync it with iTunes to put things like TV shows ect it deletes all the music off of my iPod (which is over 400 songs) so I have to put it all back on using another program and then when I try to use iTunes again it deletes everything. Sometimes when I put podcasts on it just deletes the music but not the podcasts, or it'll decide to the opposite. Recently it deleted all of my music and videos and just left the podcasts.
    Your help is greatly appreciated,
    thank you

    Hello qz0rz213,
It would seem that iTunes has encountered or developed an issue in the process of trying to sync photos to your device. The best place to start would be removing the iPod Photo Cache (thus allowing for a new version to be created).
Note: Deleting this folder will not remove the original images from your library.

If the issue is not resolved by removing the iPod Photo Cache, the following article goes into further steps that can both help you determine the source of this trouble and eliminate it.
    Symptoms
In certain situations, iTunes may display an alert or may be unable to sync photos to an iPod or iOS device. Examples include:
After updating iOS, iTunes displays an alert that there is not enough room to sync photos
This error appears: "The iPhone/iPod touch '[device name]' cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found."
This article outlines steps to resolve these issues.

  • How do I delete all my music from my ipod touch?

I'm tired of all my songs from my IPOD touch.  I want to delete all the music from it.  How do I do it?

Slightly less radical would be to uncheck the "Sync Music" button on the Music tab or choose new songs to sync to it

  • My ipod deleted all my movies and music

ok i was syncing my itouch and it came up with this message that it couldnt find the itouch so i unplugged it and hooked it back up. when i went to the summary page on itunes, it shows that all my songs and movies were deleted and was replaced with the orange section (other). now i have no room to put movies but only songs. do i have to restore my ipod to get my space back or do i have to just deal with it. also if i have to restore my ipod will i have to pay for it since my itouch is a 1st gen.

my problem is similar to this but my ipod touch was not hooked up to a computer, i did not sync it, it just randomly deleted all my music and videos. All my apps and pictures are still on it. When it is hooked up to itunes, the capacity bar full with my "music", but it lists it as other. This has happened once before, and i would really appreciate if this problem could be resolved.

Wanted to transferr purchases from a different ipod to my itunes libary however, when I clicked transferr purchases it deleted all my music and replaced it with the purchase I had transferred this has never happend before... please help

Yes i've tried all of that. I've turned it all the way on and off and erased all of my music and put it back on and nothing works. And with the breaking up CDs and putting into compilation categories i have already fixed all of that stuff. It's fine it just doesn't show up in the list of artists. I can find the album in the songs category and the albums category it's just it doesn't show tha name of the artist. All of the other albums that i downloaded before i updated my itunes to th most recent update are fine. It's just the two that i downloaded afterwards. Thanks for trying though.

Ok i needed to flush my computer because i had a virus and i had to delete all my music is there a way i can get the library from my ipod onto the new itunes i downloaded because i dont want to have to download all the songs again

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • I tried to get a song off my icloud beta on my ipod touch and it deleted all my music...why?

I downloaded a song from the ipod touch itunes store, but it wouldn't show up in my library.  I found it under the purchased music section in itunes and it had a cloud next to it.  It also was listed under the not on this device tab.  So I clicked the cloud on my ipod touch 4th gen and it downloaded but then deleted all the music in my library.  Has this happened to anyone else???

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option which is revealed in the iTunes app on your iOS device by tapping the more button at the bottom of the screen.
