My iPod deleted everything on it too!

My sister gave me an ipod nano for my Birthday at the end of August. Knowing me well, she preloaded it with hundreds of tunes. I have recently visited the US and at my transfer airport on my return I found the device empty. I had not plugged it in to anything between using it and finding it empty - could it have been the airport security system? It was kept in my handbag and has been through many x-ray machines in the last 2 weeks.

I haven't jailbreaked, but from what I've heard, if you update your iPod and it's jail broken, it loses the jailbreak and resets to factory settings.
As I said previously:
"The effects of jailbreaking are that we no longer know how the iPod will react."
Now, which part of that did you not understand?
In addition, I also stated that:
"discussions about jailbreaking are not allowed and this post is likely to be removed as a result."

  • My ipod deleted everything on it!?

i was listening to my ipod nano (3rd gen) and it suddenly restarted. It restarted to the point where it asked which language i wanted to set it to. It also deleted everything on it. What do i do? i've had it for less than a year.

You are sure that you weren't accidentally leaning/pressing on the iPod before it restarted?
(Pressing the Menu and center button resets an iPod.)
It seems very strange that it reset itself, but I guess stranger things have happened.
I'm not sure how you could prevent it, if it did reset itself. -Sorry.

  • Will restoring my ipod delete everything on my ipod?

My ipod touch froze last night. As usual, I pressed the lock and home buttons until the apple appeared. However, now the only thing on the screen is telling me to connect the ipod to itunes. I plugged it into my computer and itunes is telling me that I must restore my ipod. Will restoring it delete all of its content? Thanks for the help!

if there was a back up then no it wont.
also if the same things are in your itunes library then you can put everything back on it.

  • IPod deleted everything

Ok so today I was downloading music off the mobile iTunes store and i put my iPod down on my counter and walked away. When i came back it said everything had downloaded, so i went to my music. To my suprise, my iPod showed it had no music or videos. I reset the iPod then went to Music again. Now it just shows a screen that says, "Updating library, This may take a few minutes." It will show that screen for a few seconds, then it will show my iPod has no music on it. My computer has been broken for the last few months, so i couldnt connect it to iTunes. I just lost over $100 in music and videos. Is there any way to get them back?

Oh spectacular! Mine just did the same thing! I lost about 150 songs in all because the other 280, I had on my cpmputer. Honestly, Apple needs to fix this problem and all the others that they have. I mean, who is going to want Ipod's if this is what happens. Aparently, according to the other disscussion topics I've read on this issue, there is no way to fix this besides just trying to put them all back on your ipod. UGH!

  • My ipod deleted everything it had on it and cannot get any songs stored on the ipod.  Itunes has trouble finding my ipod at times, but when it finds it, it won't allow any files i try to put on my ipod stay on their.

I have the ipod classic 160gb and got it just last christmas.  For quite awhile, it worked fine for me, but then one day i turned it on and there was no music or videos on my ipod.  Battery was charged, the ipod functions well, just no music or videos.  I tried connecting to my laptop and it wasnt showing up on itunes, but it was showing up on my computer.  I updated my itunes to see if that worked and it did.  It seemed to work, so I started putting my songs on it and my videos, and after i would disconnect it from the computer, nothing was on my ipod, again.  I did this a couple of times with no result, with resetting it to factory settings 3 times to no avail.  My brother told me to try to sync it up with my computer, so I tried that and it didn't work as well.  I'm stumped on what to do.  Can it be replaced?

When I hover over cover flow it says I have 12851 songs but when I click nothing happens.
When I hover over artists or albums it says 'no artists/albums'.
I can upload again from my CDs but just wondering if there is anything to do. I live abroad so all my CDs are in storage.

  • PROBLEM! 1st I synced my iphone to Mac, then deleted photos to make some space, I think I deleted everything from icloud too! Please tell me there is a genius there who can fix this! is there a way to retrieve the photos even after deleted from icloud.

Hi, I know this is stupid, but without going into the how, I deleted important photos and actually backed up my icloud, so I think they are gone completely! I am furious with my self, is there anyway to retrieve this data from some space even if I have to be charged by apple ... just being hopeful...

Photo stream photos are not backed up, and when you delete them from one device, they are also deleted from iCloud and your other devices.  If they were in your camera roll when you last back up you device, restoring the backup should recover them.  Otherwise, they are, unfortunately, gone.
Also, photo stream photos don't use any of your iCloud storage so deleting them won't free any storage up in your account.
You can't really use iCloud to back up your photos.  It's designed to stream them to your devices and share with others, not to back them up.  In fact, photo stream photos only remain in iCloud for 30 days.  In order to back up your photos, import them to your computer while they are still in your camera roll, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.  Or, if you have a Mac that is signed into your account with photo stream enabled, and you are using iPhoto '11 9.2.2 or later, go to iPhoto>Preferences>iCloud and check Automatic Import.  This will ensure that your photo stream photos are automatically imported to your iPhoto library where they will be safe (especially if you are using Time Machine to back up your Mac).

  • Do i need to delete everything off my ipod before i send it in to apple????

    i am sending it intoday

I don't think that you need to do it but it would be better to protect your data.
I've sent my iPod Touch to Apple today too and I've deleted everything after I have made a backup.

  • How can I use a new computer without deleting everything on iPod?

    Hey Guys
I need a bit of help.
My old computer died, it was running Windows XP. I've got myself a new computer running Windows 7.
I have a copy of my iTunes folders from my old computer (taken 2 days before it died)
How can I use a new computer without deleting everything on iPod touch?
I've imported all the folders (music, apps etc) into the new computer's iTunes, but when I sync my iPod
I receive a window asking if i want to sync i need to erase and replace with the iTunes library on the computer.
I particularly don't want to do this.
My wife also uses my iTunes for her iPhone.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Make a backup of the iPod by connecting the iPod to the computer and right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup. Then restore the iPod from that backup and sync as necessary.

  • I have bought music directly on my ipod,i have also bought films and music on itunes on my computer, how do i get them all onto my computer without accidentally deleting everything off my ipod? I did this a while a go and had to spend 100's re-buying

Help! I have bought music directly onto my ipod, i have also bought films and music directly onto my computer from itunes, how can i put them all onto the computer? My ipod is acting a little odd and i think its going to break at some point, so i really want to save everything i've bought. Last year i tried to sync them thinking that my music would go onto the computer, but it actually just deleted everything off my ipod, i haven't been game to try anything again.

  • How do i make picture files on my ipod touch 4th generation, without itunes wanting to keep deleting everything in the original photo library.... I was only able to make on and can't remember how, but when I try to sync when touch is hooked up to itunes

I have had my ipod touch 4th generation for a couple months now.... Nowhere in the manuals or help sections does it tell me how to make individual pucture files(like that already on my computer) put onto my ipod touch.... I managed to make one and I can't remember how I did it but when I have the touch hooked up to itunes and try to pick which picture files from my computer to sync, a box always opens and says that it will delete everything in the original photo library that was in there.....
Can anyone help me there has to be away, I know someone has done it but they don't live here to show me!!!!
    Please and thanx in advance!!!!!!!

where on my computer am I suppose to make the individual picture files and have them to upload on my ipod touch.... I do have a photo library on my computer, but in the photo tab in itunes for the ipod touch and there is nothing checked for syncing, cause when I do check it it always says its going to replace everything i have in my photo library on my ipod touch.....  So how am i suppose to have it checked and have it NOT replace pictures on it????

  • I deleted everything off my Ipod touch and now I can't get my music back on.

A few days ago I deleted everything off my Ipod as there was stuff on there that I didn't want and that was taking up room. I seleted the 'erase all contents and settings' option as I thought that it would simply be a case of reconnecting it  to my computer in order to restore my music. But now when I connect it to the computer it doesn't pick it up in iTunes at all, its not under devices or anything. Also, when i turn it on now all that comes up is the apple logo, nothing else. I've tried everything from uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling the latest version to trying to restore my Ipod to its factory settings through iTunes but nothing works. I don't know if this makes any difference but i think it may have been jailbroken a couple of years ago (this was done by someone else not me) and that was what I was trying to delete, all the music and apps that they put on. Please help.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • ITunes deletes everything from iPod Touch when I try to sync.

This has happened to me five times now, and I am incredibly frustrated. When I start to sync my iPod Touch with iTunes, instead of actually syncing it deletes everything from my iPod (music, videos, podcasts, audiobooks, etc.; apps and other data aren't deleted). I have over 30gb of audio on my iPod, so it takes longer than 12 hours to get everything synced back up again. This first happened to me right after I upgraded to iOS 6, so I thought it was just a bug, but it has happened four times since, and three times in the last four days. I did a factory restore of my iPod last night and then synced it all night, and then iTunes just erased everything off again when I was syncing it again this evening.
Moreover, when I attempt to sync again to get my music back, iTunes only transfers some of my library. And each time I cancel the sync and restart it, the number of songs transferred over decreases. Sometimes soft resetting the iPod fixes this problem and allows the entire library to sync, but last time that wouldn't do the trick, which is why I tried the factory reset. It's still happening though, as I'm trying to sync right now and it's only showing 1500 of my 8000 tracks.
I have an iPod Touch 4G running iOS 6 and am running iTunes on Windows 7 32-bit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar problem with my iPhone 4S running iOS 6 (Win7 64bit). When the first beta of iOS came out, I used the restore trick to load it on my phone without a developer license. I knew what I was getting into. This problem happened about 4-5 times through the various beta releases. When iOS was released to the public, it would not let me upgrade to it, so I had to DFU my phone to get it on the final release and restore a backup. Fine, but now I was on the official release. The problem has occurred twice now since then.
I sync my phone daily as I have a lot of playlists that use the "Last Played Date" attribute. I will sync my phone and the next time I go to play a song, all my music is gone. It is very intermittent. To fix, I have to uncheck all my playlists in iTunes, sync. Then recheck my playlists and have it readd. Like OP, I have 35-40GB of music, so it takes a long time to have to re-add everything.
I originally attributed this to a bug in the beta so I dealt with it. Now that I'm getting the error on the final release, its a bit more annoying. My wife has a 4S as well (Vista 32bit) and she has not had this issue.
