My ipod display isnt working properly

Help! any1 no whats rong wiv my ipod i turn it on n it onli shows half ov the screen and is a bit destorted can any1 help plz ?

If it's less than a year old and you haven't dropped it you could call AppleCare support and see if you can get a replacement. Normally screens are very tough to get replaced since the majority of issues are caused by accidental damage or abuse, however if it's missing sections of the image and there are no obvious signs of abuse it could be a defect and you may have a chance.
Also, if possible, visit the following website to see if there is an Apple store near you:
http://www.apple.com/retail/storelist
Every Apple Store has Mac Geniuses on site and can replace in-warranty products provided they have a refurb of the matching model available. You can at least have an Apple rep look at the iPod in person and tell you if it's fixable.

Can I install the online version rather than using my dvd? it successfully installed (up to a point) that way, it just wont accept my serial number for some reason. my dvd isnt working properly.

If it gets far enough to reject your serial number, it won't help to download it. It must have installed ok.
What is the message you get (DON'T tell us the serial number!!)?
Does it mention a "qualifying product" by any chance?

My iphone 4S is out of warranty and isnt working properly, can I upgrade to the iphone 5S? and for how much?

For as little as $199, depending on whether you're eligible for an upgrade with your carrier, or if you decide to purchase it out-of-pocket, and how much you can sell your broken iPhone 4S for.

  • 20" iMac, display not working properly, otherwise OK

I have a 20" imac with 10.4.11 loaded, Have had it for about 2 years, no problems at all except occasional wake-from-sleep issue. All of a sudden, the display has quit working properly. The computer sounds like it boots fine, but the display only shows a very deep blue (not black)and the light ind the lower right corner is "on".
I tried holding a flashlight up to the front as some have suggested, and I do not see see anything at all. This would seem to rule out backlighting or screen brightness issues. I have also reset the PSU and the P-ram, also to no effect. Tried booting from the 10.4 disk, also to no effect.
My teenagers won't admit having any problems, but one of them did admit to turning off the system several times using the power button in an attempt to reset AirPort. Any thoughts? the only other easy thing I can think of is the battery, could that be causing this much trouble? do the display cables ever detatch from the MB or anything like that? any ideas greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Eric

    Hey Eric,
This is from the Service Source:
"Screen is dark, fan is running and the hard drive is spinning. You may hear the startup
    chime as well.
    1. Reset parameter RAM. Press Command-Option-P-R during startup before “Welcome to Macintosh”
    appears.
    2. The system software could be damaged. Start up from the system CD that came with the computer.
    3. Remove the user access panel on the bottom of the computer. With the unit powered on, check if a red
LED is visible in the access door. If the red LED is on, power is on. If you don’t see the LED glowing
red, follow the steps under the symptom “No Power”.
    4. Disconnect the A/C power cord. Place the unit in the service stand and remove the user access plate.
Press the PMU reset button on the logic board. Refer to “Resetting the PMU on the Logic Board”
    mentioned earlier in this chapter.
    5. Check for external video. Connect an external monitor to the mini-VGA port. If you don’t have external
video, replace the main logic board. If you do have external video, go on to the next step.
    6. Open the bottom housing and verify that all the cables are securely attached. Pay special attention to
the video cable (located near the modem). If the cables are securely attached, go on to the next step.
Warning: Whenever the bottom housing is opened for service, you must do two things:
    • You must clean the original thermal film from the surfaces joining the thermal interface layer and
reapply thermal paste to the thermal pipe.
    • The bottom housing has four torx screws that must be tightened to at least 17 in.-lbs. If you do not
have a torque driver, you will have to make sure these screws are tightened by hand FIRMLY, BUT
NOT FORCIBLY. Or, purchase the service tool (076-0899) in order to ensure the thermal pipe is
firmly mated with the top base. If the bottom housing is not securely attached to the base in this
fashion, the CPU may overheat and become damaged.
    7. Check the connection of the video cable to the LCD flat panel display (under black tape).
    8. Replace the inverter board.
    9. Replace the LCD display. Important: If you are replacing the display, be sure to install the new display
shield and EMI gaskets that come with the new LCD panel. Installation instructions are included with
the new display panel. Additional display shields/gasket kits are also available separately as a kit, part
    #076-0958.
    10. Replace the neck assembly
    11. Replace the logic board.
    12. Replace the power supply board."
In my experience the connectors both on the logic board and on the back of the LCD panel have been known to come loose. I also have a neck assembly here that went bad.

  • IPOD won't work properly if drive C: is available on your computer

The Windows XP driver for the Apple IPOD USB Device has a bug that makes your system very slow or even hang when you try to connect or eject your IPOD if Drive "C:" is available on your machine. Another symptom is that when you connect your ipod, the computer doesn't automatically launch the ITunes app and it is very slow to open manually.
A typical problem is that if your system has had a hard drive replaced and/or the drive "C" is not assigned for some reason, then the IPOD USB Driver will attach itself as drive "C:" and then it won't work properly seemingly because of conflicts with the Windows OS. Other USB devices never grab drive "C:" but this Apple-supplied device driver appears to think it is OK to use drive C: but then it doesn't work properly.
The fix is to make sure some real (physical) drive is always connected to or mapped to drive "C:" so that the IPOD USB driver attaches to a drive from "D:" and up.
Also try reading: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499 for more info.

yeah, the ipod normally gets assigned the f, g, or h drive letters. i don't really know though if windows is responsible for assigning the drive letters to usb devices or the ipod driver. to my understanding the ipodservice.exe only makes sure that itunes can comunicate to the ipod through the drive letter that windows assigns to the ipod. windows is the os and therefore responsible for managinig its drive letters.

  • IPod Touch Not Working Properly After Front Screen and Housing Replacement

So my son left his iPod Touch 4th Gen on my back bumper and it fell off out in our dirt/gravel driveway.  I finally found it, 7 days later, run over multiple times.  Front screen and back housing were demolished as you can see, but it still worked fine (except rear facing camera was done).  Ordered the rear camera, front screen and back housing assemblies off eBay from reputable sellers.  Took it all apart and reassembled it. Bada bing! Everything was working fine: camera, speakers, touch screen, wi-fi, all of it, for about 2 days .  It went from working perfectly, to being kinda glitchy (had to hold home and power to restart), to not turning on at all.  I read somewhere that if you don't clean all metal to metal contacts, it may interfere and not work properly, so I just took it (almost) all apart again, cleaned the contacts, and it turned on and was working, but this time only for about half an hour.  I've held down the home and power buttons for long periods of time, which sometimes got it to work, but now is not working at all.  Any ideas on what might be going on??? Is the screen bad?  Did I maybe miss a metal to metal contact (e.g. the power button, ribbon cable)?  Any really important ones that you can tell me about?  I really don't want to take it into the Apple store, but if I do, any ideas on a ruff guesstimate on what it's gonna cost me?  Thanks for any help!  I really appreciate it, I'd love to get this thing working for my 7 year old so I can have my d*** phone back!

I have decided to dedicate this thread to the wonderful errors of Lion OSX. Each time I find a huge problem with Lion I will make note of it here.
Today I discovered a new treasure of doggie poop in Lion. No Save As......
I repeat. No Save As. In text editor I couldn't save the file with a new extension. I finally accomplished this oh so majorly difficult task (because we all know how difficult it should be to save a file with a new extension) by pressing duplicate and then saving a copy of the file with a new extension. Yet then I had to delete the first copy and send it to trash. And of course then I have to secure empty trash because if I have to do this the rest of my mac's life I will be taking up a quarter of percentage of space with duplicate files. So this is the real reason they got rid of Save As: so that it would garble up some extra GB on the ole hard disk.
So about 20 minutes of my time were wasted while doing my homework and studying for an exam because I had to look up "how to save a file with a new extension in  mac Lion" and then wasted time sitting here and ranting on this forum until someone over at Apple wakes up from their OSX-coma.
are you freaking kidding me Apple? I mean REALLY?!!!! who the heck designed this?!!! I want to know. I want his or her name and I want to sit down with them and have a long chat. and then I'd probably splash cold water on their face to wake them up.
I am starting to believe that Apple is Satan.
