My Ipod displays a red "X" in a circle when I connect it to Itunes
A couple of days ago I tried to turn my 160 GB Classic Ipod on and it showed a picture of the USB cable and said Use Itunes to restore and made a loud click and turned off.
When I connected it to Itunes a bid red "X" in a circle came up and underneath of it, it said www.apple.com/support/ipod, which is how I got here.
I tried looking at the Ipod Classic help page and it said I have to put the Ipod into Disk Mode but it won't let me.
Help please.
I believe this is the screen that you are seeing correct?
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1463
If so and you can't get your device to correctly go into disk mode that may be an issue. Also there are some people on there with a very lengthy thread that mention older iPod Classics are getting a possible corruption bug by the newer iTunes 9 app... Which you probably installed when you got Windows 7 correct?
The only thing I could suggest if you can't get it into disk mode would be to schedule a visit to a apple genius bar for help.
But I would look over that thread if this just started happening when you connected it up to your Windows 7 machine with iTunes 9

I restore it, but when it's restored the same message comes up. Also, since I've done this, my Ipod restarts itself everytime I disconnect. HELP!!!
by reset option do you mean the DFU restore? worked for me, have you tried that?
if not - hold the lock and home button until the power down bar comes up. then hold the lock button for ten seconds - next continue to hold the lock button and press the home button for ten seconds - next release the lock button and hold the home button for 10 seconds. this should be done with the phone tethered. If done right and your itunes is configured as such, the phone will reload the drivers and start up itunes, and then prompt for a restore/update. -
The ipod has been working erratically for the last few weeks. Stops playing mid-song, takes forever to load the next song on shuffle mode. Today, stopped playing altogether. When I tried to reset, I got an orange circle with a X in it and the support web addaress. I can't find anything on the support site that references the x'd circle. Any ideas? Is this thing toast?
Hi Crystal Newkirk,
I've come across the following information which may be helpful. If you are seeing the red "X" icon on the display, we will need to restore your iPod from Disk Mode.

I try to restore it. Menu and select buttons pressed together. Then once the apple logo comes on I immediately press play/pause, and the select buttons together, but it just comes up with the red x again, telling me to go to the website. It's not being recognized in I-tunes at all when I plug it in, not even being sensed by the computer itself. I'm getting really frustrated with this. Does anyone else have a problem like this? I hope I don't have to take it somewhere. Please help!

I have an ipod touch 8gb that is disabled. on the screen it reads ipod disabled connect to itunes. But when i connect it to itunes, it says that it cant work with the ipod because it is locked with a passcode. what now?
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

my ipod is disabled and when i connect it to itunes it says that i have to enter my password but i cant because there is no swipe bar so what do i do to fix this?
Connect in recovery mode and restore, you'll get the option to reset the passcode during this process:
iOS: Unable to update or restore and iPhone and iPod touch: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen
If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software. -
my pc crashed...and i purchased a new one and installed itunes...how can i sync my ipod touch 2 my pc? when i connect it 2 itunes on my new pc..by defualt it will rerase everthing on my ipod
The other responder gave you a program that will transfer stuff from your iPod to your new computer. You can transfer iTunes purchaces to your new computer by:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
After you move your stuff to your new computer you will have to let iTunes erase your iPod and then sync with the stuff that is now in your iTunes library. You will loose app data though. -

About 30 minutes ago, I was adding some music to the ipod Nano. Everything was working fine. Now, the ipod will not turn on at all. When I connect it to the laptop with the USB, the computer does not even recognize it. The screen has a fant image of the plug on it and it says connected. I followed the procedures for disconnecting it when I was finished with it earlier. Any idea what is going on here???
ThanksIt probably needs to be reset. The procedure is different for different Nano models: http://www.apple.com/support/ipodnano/assistant/itunes/
