Look at your iTunes library ("Music" view). Double click a song. If it doesn't play, it won't sync to your iPod. Take a look in iTunes Help under "Changing where your iTunes files are stored."

  • 60gb iPod does not see music files on my external HD

I'm going nuts trying to figure out why my iBook does not see the music files on my external HD.
I have a 250gb external hard drive (that I put together with an enclosure and HD I bought from Tiger Direct). I have the hard drive hooked up to my G3 iBook via Fire Wire. The HD comes up on the desktop, but none of the files are seen. Now, when I take the same HD and hook it up to my Windows PC, all my music is there.
I really don't want to have my iPod hooked up to my PC. My G3 is too small to hold all the music. I need to have the external HD to handle all the music for my iPod.
How do I accomplish this on my G3?
    Thanks!
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hyphen says:
[The] drive can be formatted as fat32 and be read/written by macs. He could also partition it, one partition as hfs+, the other as fat32. This can be done from disk utility.
The NTFS format (windows) has only read support for OS X.
How did s/he copy the music on the external drive? Was the music on his/her pc? If yes the hierarchy may be different for the pc version of iTunes library, or is it that he can't find the files even from the finder?
    And Red Dwarf adds:
Just to add to hyphen's reply, FAT32 has a maximum size of 32GB. The user cannot make the partition larger than 32GB should they decide to go down that route.
Another alternative is a utility called TransMac. When installed on a PC, it will allow the PC to recognise a Mac OS formatted drive and read the files within. No need then to worry about all that FAT32 and NTFS malarky stuff. It weighs in at $64 dollars though for a 1-3 user licence:

So hopefully, with Kappy's help, too, you will be able to figure it out.
    Good luck.

  • Ipod does not play music in play after...

    Hello Guys...
I have this problem... In the night I connect my ipod to the computer to charge while I am working, in the morning I browse in the ipod menu but when I play any music file, the screen shows the "play symbolo" but the song does not play, I press "pause" then "play" but not works, after it, I reset the ipod pressing the "menu and center" buttons, after it, works good.
In the day when I dont play music for couple hours and try again, the problem comes again.
    The question, any solution?
I have 5th ipod generation, 30G, ipod software 1.2.1, iTunes (last version) 7.1.1.5, windows xp.

*i've reset the pod a bunch of times*
Have you tried "restoring" your iPod? Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • Problems, trying to use backup from 5.1.1 iOS Gen 3 iPod does not sync music to 4th gen iOS 6 iPod.

My 3rd Gen iPod's headphone connector is basically shot, I've had it for around if not over two years now; sometimes I'm surprised it lasted this long; since I am not one who usually listens to her music without headphones, this is problematic, .
Luckily, a family memberI know had a gen 4 iPod, 32g, same space amount as my old one, lying around that they don't use anymore, thank goodness.
Well, in one case, not so much. First of all, said iPod was locked with a passcode (the passcode was guessed so many times because no one could remember it, it locked permenantly) so I had to completely wipe it. However, it wasn't so bad, though all the information was lost, I could finally use iOS 6 on an iPod.
Well, iOS turned out to be a huge problem, in the way of synicing my old backup. I have about, um, an estimated 3000 songs on my 3rd gen iPod, that of which are not all on one computer, and are from multiple computers (my desktop / laptop); I thought all the songs would transfer over with the rest of my things. I didn't think the iOS made a difference.
Lo and behold, I was dead wrong.
When my iPod was restored to my previous backup, it had no music, only my pictures and apps were added. I'd call 'it annoyed me' an understatement. I waited all that time for the ipod to restore and the backup to finish, only to get my one hundered pictures and two apps.
I have tried to look up how to extract music from my iPod, but to no avail, my computer recognizes it as a camera and I can only access the picture files; the way I read you have to do it online, you must be able to actually get into the iPod's folders, besides the picture folders, and I can't seem to do that; there was an option in earlier versions of iTunes that allowed the iPod device to be displayed as something other than a camera but it no longer seems to be an option in the new iTunes.
All the programs for extracting files, specialized for iPod file extraction, actually, cost money, which at the moment, I don't have much of, this iPod was given to me by a family member, and I'm lucky I even have it. Manual extraction is also something I've tried but failed miserably at, as mentioned earlier.
I'm really not up for re-synching one by one, I want this to be as quick and painless as possible. I have the available GB for my 3000 songs (I checked). Most of my songs are mp3s, and some are m4as. Not everything is bought, and not everything is going to be able to be downloaded through iCloud on account of the fact that there are, uh, over 2GB worth of songs, so does anyone have any solutions to my problem here? I have over 50gb in my desktop library alone, loads more in my laptop library, and I really don't feel like separating all the songs from my previous iPod into a single playlist, if there's a more efficient, free solution out there....
This would not have been a problem in the first place, if the passcode was not there; but blame the previous owner of the 4th gen iPod for that. She typed it so many times it locked her out. And so, I had to reset, but not without an automatic update for iOS 6, which my gen3 can't update to, because it's, well, outdated.

Connect the iPod to your computer and update to iOS 6.1.3. You need iTunes 10.7 or later on the computer.

  • IPod does not display music in the Cloud

I'm at my wits end to get my iPod to see the 5500 selections in the Cloud. I've reinstalled iTunes, I've restored the iPod software backing up first, and restored the iPod software with no backup and resynced. Nothing worked. If I manually sync to iTunes with Match turned off, I get the full library on the iPod. When I turn Match back on in the iPod, Match wipes the library off the iPod, as advertised, but then displays the iCloud icon for a few seconds, then an empty library and "No Music. You can download music from iTunes." Nothing I have done has produced an iPod that sees the Cloud. I haven't seen this problem on any discussions or help sites so far, and have not called Apple Tech Support directly, hoping to avoid a fee. HELP! I've wasted two days trying to make this thing work.

Hello All, and especially to Michael Allbritton,
Well, for what it is worth, I finally got the Cloud music appear on my iPod. It took a lot of tweaking and fixing of three different iTunes accounts I had, including ensuring I was using the right account on both the iPod and the MacBook. I had mismatches between the two devices, PLUS I had differing account passwords on the two devices. It took a while for me to track all this down, partly because of my own confusing naming conventions,, and partly because it takes time to redo the whole Cloud process or restore an iPod, which I did several times. Patience paid off.
So it is working now. Whether it is all working absolutely correctly or not, I don't know because I haven't delved into the details. But at least I have my music stuff working on the iPod without 30+ Gigs of storage used up.
One other thing; I noticed on some of the posts that members were flaming others for explaining what worked for them which caused others to use the technique to have to go back to square one. We are all in the same boat on this new technology, and personally I have run through the installation, sync, and reformatting the iPod a number of times, using various suggestions form the community. Don't shoot people for trying things out and reporting what happened to them. Don't expect to be an early adapter and not have glitches. Don't expect every solution offered to match your specific problem. And for gods sake read the f*cking instructions Apple has already posted on what does what to whom. It isn't rocket science, and asking basic questions in this forum seems to be a waste of time when the answer is already on web.
Just my opinion. I could be wrong.

  • IPod does not play music from the beginning

    Hi there!
The music is properly good on the hard disk of the PC.
The music is imported into iTunes, where it played well from the beginning.
On the iPod, the music is also available.
When playing the music now as follows:
The title starts 6-10 seconds from the start, just after this time the song is played from the beginning, for about 6-10 seconds, then the title is a play on. Then from 12-20 sec from the beginning.
I hope the wording is somewhat understandable.
    Thx for help!
PS: "Remember Position" is not enabled; Start time on each track is 0:00

    Good evening everyone!
    The problem is solved.
It was because of the ZoneAlarm firewall software!
Somehow, the music is cut up by plan no why ...
Firewall uninstalled, delete music from iTunes and the iPod, newly imported gesyncht = works
Thank you very much for your attention!

  • Ipod does not play music or videos

Hi everyone! I just got a new 30GB ipod for Christmas and I put some music and one downloaded video on my ipod from itunes. Everything plays fine on my computer. It also all shows up on my ipod but when I click to play it the play screen comes up but it never starts playing. The video stays on a black screen with the play icon in the top corner and then I have to reset it because it freezes. I also tried deleting what was on it and trying to do it on another computer but the same thing happens. Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? I really want to go to the apple store today to have it fixed but I know it will be packed since it is the day after Christmas! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have this problem as well. The 1.1 upgrade was supposed to fix this problem but it didn't. Hopefully Apple will address this issue.

  • Ipod Does not Play songs

Ipod does not play music. Instead of playing the song, it just lists the title (like when a song is playing) and then moves to the next song without playing the song. It's as if it automatically forwards to the next song (song titles displays for every second). And this occurs in shuffle mode, and/or selecting a playlist. Need help! Ipod was purchased in this site on May 27,2006.

  • Why do my songs and audio books keep getting erased when I add a new book?  Now some books will not play and the iPod does not keep track of where I was when I pause a book, leave for music and then go back!

About a month ago I added some new audio books to my iPod Classic and then after disconnecting, I discovered EVERYTHING had been erased.
I had to restore through my iTunes but then I could not load my music back on.
I uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes and completely reformated the iPod drive.
I successfully got my music and books back on but then added a new book two days ago only to discover everything got erased AGAIN!!!
Of course, my 1 Year Warranty was up about a week before the first incident.....
I formatted the iPod again, uninstalled / reinstalled iTunes (it was freezing during sync) and downloaded all my music and books again.
Now I have several books that will not play (they play on iTunes and they played on the iPod before all these events) and the iPod does not keep track of where I was in a book when I have to stop and go to something else.
Does anyone know what is going on with this thing???  I have a 5th Gen Video and in all the years I've had it, I've NEVER had problems like this!
Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to get my iPod Classic up and running properly again?
    Thanks.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.
    Have a nice day!

If you unplug the headphones ipod does not stop the music. How do I fix this? При отключении наушников ipod не останавливает музыку. Как это исправить?

What happens if you reset the Nano? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Volume down buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Start playing another track, and then pull the headphones out?  Any change?
I am going to try this out with my 6G Nano later on to see if this functionality does indeed exist on this model. Or perhaps somebody who comes along to this thread can offer an answer.

  • HELP: Lost all my music and my ipod does not show up in I-Tunes.

Okay, my Ipod was stuck on Do Not Disconnect. I rebooted it by hold menu and middle button. Well now the problem is that all my music is gone. I hooked it up to the computer so I could sync it again in itunes thinking that the music would reappear. But i can't do that cause my ipod isn't showing up in I-tunes. I double checked to make sure it's plugged up, but nothing? How do I get I-tunes and the computer to recogize my i-pod.

First of all, try another port on your computer. Some ports are not connected direct to the motherboard and do not recognize the iPod as well as those that are. Reset the iPod each time you connect it to another port.
Then try with the iPod in forced disk mode.
