My iPod doesn't sisplay on the desktop when I plug it in!

ok so when I plug in my ipod, it shows up in the itunes window, but not on the desktop so I can't drag pictures into my ipod on the desktop. It would show up on my other mac, but not on my new one. Please help me somebody...I'm going crazy.

You need to put the iPod into disk mode before it will show up on your desktop; if it is in disk mode and won't show up, open the Finder's preferences and check what's set to show up on the desktop.

I have replaced the internal DVD/CD drive twice in the last 1 1/2 years. Now when I insert a DVD or CD, it does not appear on the desk top or anywhere else. I can't eject it. I tried everything possible that I could think of. After a few weeks, the CD decided to eject when I started up my computer. I put the software disc in (which is windows, but I wanted to see what it did). It showed up on the desk top and let me open it up. I was able to eject it from the desk top. I then put in a blank CD to record music to. Since there wasn't anything on my computer for the new drive, I tried dragging and dropping the songs onto the CD and it appeared to be burning the CD, but when I put the CD into my stereo, it showed error. Many years ago I had a LaCie external drive because my computer didn't have one and it used Toast which was on my desk top. I thought this one was supposed to just work with iTunes, but I am not sure what I am supposed to do with it. Should the device appear on my desk top when I plug it in? Is there some kind of software that I am supposed to have? I am running version 10.6.8. Thanks!

The external DVD/CD Writer will Not appear on your desktop when you attach it to your iMac. It will appear in "Finder", which is in your Dock.

- Restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod
If still problem you likely have a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. It is liklely a problem with the headphone jack i the iPod. There are third-party places that will replace he jack.

My iPod touch 2nd gen doesn't appear in the finder nor on the desktop when connected, is it normal maybe because its a flash drive and not a harddrive, I don't know...
By the way, everything is normal with iPhoto and iTunes.

The Touch and iPhone do not have disk mode, that is why you can't see it.

You may have transferred all your songs, but your iPad is seeing the library as a different entity.

After I create say a word document, file it on my desktop and then shut down my machine. The next time I open up the MacBook the file icon has been removed from the desktop. I can still retrieve the file in a folder labeled with the month I created it. But why has the OS removed it from the desktop and how can I stop it happening?
It happens to alias icons as well!

Are you using a Windows or a Mac? What you're seeing (the backwards L shaped menu) is probably the Canon Quick Menu. If you have a Mac you can go into your applications, select Canon Utilities, then drag Canon Quick menu to the trash and empty trash can. On Windows you'd go to the control panel, select Programs and Features (or Uninstall Program/Add or Remove Program) and uninstall the Canon Quick Menu. Not required for all the normal functions of the printer. You can do the same thing for My Image Garden. Also not required.

If you're stuck within an app or you've noticed a problem, simply hold both the home button and sleep/wake button at the same time. It's important to keep your fingers on these buttons until step 3.
After a few seconds the red ‘slide to power off' screen will appear, simply ignore this. Ensure your fingers are still holding down the home and sleep/wake switch.
Shortly after you should see the Apple logo, it's now safe to let go of the iPad's buttons. Your iPad should now boot, beware this process can take up to 10 minutes or so.

Go to System Preferences > Displays > and you should see two different windows, one for your iMac's display and one for the extra display. Click on the one for the extra display. Click on the Arrangement tab at the top. In the lower left corner, uncheck the box for "Mirror Displays" and it should go to extended desktop. You may also wish to check the box for Show displays in menu bar if you need to access the Displays pref frequently.

If I open Bookmarks and select a folder that is longer than the Firefox window is high, the part of the bookmarks list that falls outside the window remains on the desktop when I leave bookmarks or close the window. Could you try disabling graphics hardware acceleration? Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches with some graphic cards/drivers.
