My ipod got messed up when i tried to update the software on it

when i tried to update the software, an icon appeared on my computer that said that there is a corrupt file on my ipod. How can i fix it. it doesnt show up on itunes so i dont know what to do

Hi bigd2k10,
First, force your iPod into disk mode, and connect it to your computer. See if it is recognized that way.
If it isn't being recognized, then see these articles:
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes for Windows
iPod is recognized by Windows but not iTunes
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize iPod
If you can sucessfully get your iPod recognized in iTunes, then I would suggest that you try restoring your iPod. For info on restoring, see:
Restoring iPod to factory settings
If that doesn't help, then see if this post by Da Gopha helps:

  • The trouble started when I tried to update my software version....

I am still very new to all the iPods.  I have a Nano that I haven't had trouble using with iTunes.  Now I recently bought a Touch and am very confused using it with iTunes.  From what I read I can have both the Nano and Touch on the same iTunes account.  If that isn't correct please let me know.
My trouble right now started when I tried to update the software version.  When I try to, a message pops up telling me there are items on there that have not been transferred to my iTunes library and that I should do that before updating.  So, I went to File and tried to transfer purchases.  Another message popped up telling me items purchased could not be transferred because I am not authorized for them on this computer (same computer we have always used for the Nano).  So, I then went to Store and clicked Authorize this computer and got the message that it is already authorized.
Now I have no idea what to do.

    - Yes you can sync more than one iDevice to a single computer and iTunes library.
    - Try deauthorizing and then authorizing the computer.
    - You are authorizing the computer for the account(s) used on the iPod, right?
    - Try resetting the iPod. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Received notice of an update for one of my apps and when I tried to update the message reads "Account Not in this store"  i must switch to a Canadian store before purchasing.  I deleted app and tried to download again but still got the message.  Anyone know how to fix?  FYI have had phone for 2 years and this is the first time this has happened.

The Apple id that you created do you remember if you created with your region sellected as Canada or US. If so you can change Region directly on your device by clicking on App Store icon, Scroll to bottom and tap your app is, click view acct and change region

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

This device does not have a sim card in it. Could this be the reason or am I missing something when I am trying to update.
Yes. You can't update or restore any GSM iPhone without a valid sim card installed in the phone. The sim card need not be activated, but it must be valid & present. If you want to update, you need to get a sim card.

You can't do anything. You have encountered the activation lock. Unless you have some sort of contact with the previous owner you have bought a very expensive paper weight.
You can find out more about activation lock from Apple's site here: Find My iPhone Activation Lock - Apple Support

Try taking it to the nearest Apple Store. They should have computers there that they can use to get your iPhone out of recovery mode. Make an appointment first.

  • I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S. It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync.  Any ideas on how to fix this?

I tried to update the software for my iPhone 4S, 16 GB to the most recent version (8.1?).  I don't know what I was updating from, because I can't access that, but it was whatever was installed on it (I got it about a year ago, so probably 6.something).
It froze, and now won't turn off, or on, or sync with my macbook plus, which is what I have always sync'd it to.  (I backed it up and sync'd it right before I tried to update the software.)
Since it originally froze almost 3 hours ago, it shows a white screen with the apple on it and a line underneath.  When I try to sync with my laptop, it says it needs me to enter a passcode on the phone, which I can't enter because the screen is frozen.  So I'm unable to access the iPhone portion of iTunes.
I have tried to turn it off, with no luck.  I have tried rebooting my laptop and syncing, but I still get the same result.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
I really wanted to wait to update the software, but I was having internet connectivity issues for the past 3 weeks, and Sprint suggested updating the phone's software.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I hope that you can see this response. The forum software is acting quite bizarre today.
You really do want to restore with your own computer. There is an off chance that you might be able to backup first, but I really think it is a very slight chance now since you got the connect to iTunes screen. But on the chance that when you connect, it sees the iPad and allows a backup, I would to not have you wait to use your own Mac.
If you cannot create a backup, you will lose everything that you have put on since the date to the last backup. So of your last backup was three weeks ago, you will restore the iPad to the condition that it was in three weeks ago.
If you do a lot of traveling, using iCloud for backups might be a very good idea. I use iTunes primarily and I backup my MacBook Pro with Time Capsule, but I still use iCloud as a secondary backup. I don't have enough data that I have exceeded the free 5 GB that you get with iCloud, so I do use it just in case.
I can't explain what happened with the update, I can only tell you that it does happen to other users. I have never had a problem when I updated and I having been updating over WiFi since iOS 5 came out. Taking a guess, maybe an interruption in the connection - especially of you tried updating using a hotel's WiFi network, or a power surge maybe. Whatever the cause, it is most likely a one time thing. That doesn't help your situation I know, but hopefully it won't happen again.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
