My ipod got wet and I can't shut it off

I'm drying out my iPod, which got exposed to water (not completely submerged) about 3 hours ago. Don't even ask—it's a long stupid story involving an impossible line at the DMV in midtown NYC and a water bottle that wasn't as secure as it should have been.
The problem is, I can't shut the device off at this point... and everything I've read online suggests that it should be shut off prior to the drying out process to avoid permanent damage. I've already seen a big red X with a "contact support" alert come up on the screen. Is there anything else I can do or simply wait for it to dry enough to power it down?
Thanks.

Since you can't switch it off.
Put it in a dry place for a week (a rice box is a good idea) and try to use a hair air-blower (warm but not hot) to dry it.

my ipod got wet and still turns on but doesn't work when i plug it into my laptop

Put your iPod in a Zip-Lock bag with Silica Gel Packets. Let it sit overnight (or two) and the Silica Gel will pull the moisture from the iPod, it's internal parts, and dry it out. Simply air drying does not remove moisture from the components. You'll find Silica Gel in with all new electronics, Tvs, Phones, etc. for a reason.
Just google Silica Gel Packets and you will find a number of vendors selling!

  • MY IPOD GOT WET AND NOW IT WON'T TURN ON! D8

Help! My iPod was in my bag and my water bottle leaked all over everything and I had not discovered my iPod was wet until I got home. D8

I've heard a lot of different theories on how to revive water-damaged iPods. You should search the forums--you will most likely get hundreds of similar posts. Methods I can think of off of the top of my head are:
    1. Put in a warm bowl of rice in a warm spot
    2. Put on a sunny windowsill for several hours
    3. (probably don't try unless you're totally desperate) put in a warm oven on a towel with the door open for a very short time
These are only a few options... if you use the search option you will find many, many more.

    - Yes. Restoring the iPod erases the iPod.
    - Try a reset to:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restoring
    - Next try DFU mode

  • Help My ipod got wet and won't turn on

Recently an accident happened where water was spilled onto my brand new ipod chromatic, I have no idea what to do and let it sit out to dry. Does anyone know if it wil work afterwards or something I can do to help/ fix it?

Water is bad. At least when it comes to anything that runs on electricity.
If you tried to turn it on immediately after it getting wet, you are probably in trouble. Everyones first instinct is to turn something on after they drop it in water or get it wet and that is the LAST thing you want to do at that point!
If you get any device wet, DO NOT TURN IT ON! You need to let is sit and dry out before you try to turn it on.
As for your specific case. Try letting it dry out completely, then try turning it on. Put it somewhere dry and warm for a day or two.
If it still does not work, you may be out of luck.

Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.
ATTN: Beginning July 2013 Apple Stores are now equipped to do screen repairs/replacements in-house on iPhone 5 and 5C. In some cases while you wait. According to Apple this is the beginning of equipping Apple Stores with the resources needed to do most repairs for iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touches that would not require major replacements. Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. So, if you need a screen repaired or a broken screen replaced or have your stuck Home button fixed, call your local Apple Store to see if they are now doing these in-house.

  • Firefox is blocking some Actionscript components and i can't shut it off

I was using my web-client email to day (Yahoo powered) and when i clicked "Attach" a window popped up from Firefox. I was clicking quickly, and the window positioned itself so that "OK" was directly underneath where i was clicking. Now, the Attach button doesn't work. Firefox froze briefly so i say that the error said something about filtering. Any idea how to fix this or do i have to delete my profile to get rid of it?

i droped my ipod touch in some water and used the rice method to save it but now now it will turn on but it won't respond when i try to touch it. any ideas

  • Thnk my ipod got wet while workingout "it snt  turning on Wht can I do?

I forgot to turn on the Ipod when I started working out ( all because a friend) It was in my waist, then when I desided tu use it, It just didn't do anything, My frien told me that it had got wet and I can't belive I'm going to loose my Ipod. I put it on the sun to see if it gets dry, and works again. But PLEASE! somebody say something!

If your iPod has gotten wet, all you can really do is let it dry out completely - I'd leave it in a warm spot for two weeks or so, and hope for the best. Don't try to turn it on or charge it during this time - you may do more damage.
    Good luck.
    Cheers!
