My iPod got wet...

I was a moron and accidentally left my ipod video outside one night, and it happened to rain that night. It was then left outside half of the next day in 95 degree weather and when i found it, my ipod was too hot to touch. It won't turn on normally (pressing the middle button). However, i plugged it in to a wall charger and it did turn on and look normal. All my songs are on there still, but it won't play (i press play and it just stays at 0 seconds but says its playing). But as soon as i unplug it from the charger it turns off again. It says it is fully charged and I even left it "charging" for a night but when i unplugged my ipod it still died. please help! is it dead? can it be fixed?
iPod Video: 30GB   Windows XP

Same thing happened to me. I have the black 30GB model. I have mine hooked into the cigarette lighter of my wakeboard boat and my very intelligent friend sprayed the boat with the jetski. The iPod got wet, but worked for the rest of the weekend. It was not until about 4 days afterwards when it quit.
Apple says with the receipt, they can send it off to fix it under warranty. Just don't mention the water part.

    Greetings Socs4bill,
It seems your iPod has been exposed to liquid and is not operating properly. Based on the information you have provided, it appears your iPod needs to be serviced. The following link should help you get started with the process and has links with additional information on topics such as warranty and service pricing, battery replacement, and express replacement service.

  • My ipod got wet and half works

my ipod got wet and still turns on but doesn't work when i plug it into my laptop

Put your iPod in a Zip-Lock bag with Silica Gel Packets. Let it sit overnight (or two) and the Silica Gel will pull the moisture from the iPod, it's internal parts, and dry it out. Simply air drying does not remove moisture from the components. You'll find Silica Gel in with all new electronics, Tvs, Phones, etc. for a reason.
Just google Silica Gel Packets and you will find a number of vendors selling!

ahhhhh I wish I'd read this first. My water bottle leaked in my hand bag and my ipod got wet. Since I had to charge it anyway and I wanted to find out if it would still work, I plugged it in. I left it in for about 5 secondes, but then pulled it out because it was making funny noises. PLEASE is there any hope? Or have I completly ruined it?
PLEASE PLEASE let me know if there's anything I can do. I'd be devastated if it was broken for good:( I love my ipod!

  • IPod got wet - help!,

For reasons too complicated to explain, my iPod got wet this morning at the gym. For a couple of hours afterward it was completely dark, but now it's trying to recharge a "very low battery." Assuming it doesn't recover, does anyone know what Apple charges to replace batteries? I assume I have to send it to them...

You could also try completely covering the iPod in a bowl of rice. Rice is a natural desiccant and will help absorb the excess moisture (think of rice in a salt shaker). Given how tightly the Ipod seals, you may want to give it more than 24 hours to ensure it is completely dry.
And, FYI, the issue is not necessarily the battery; you've gotten the entire circuit board wet and any attempt to turn it on or charge it risks shorting out the entire unit.
    Good luck.

What does when have to do with it? Liquide damage is not covered by the warranty.

    When did you purchase it?
For the poster, try here if it is your problem.
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
HOwever, if you rerestored to factory defaults/new iPod and still have the problem then that points to hardware damaged caused by the water. Service is required.

  • MY IPOD GOT WET AND NOW IT WON'T TURN ON! D8

Help! My iPod was in my bag and my water bottle leaked all over everything and I had not discovered my iPod was wet until I got home. D8

I've heard a lot of different theories on how to revive water-damaged iPods. You should search the forums--you will most likely get hundreds of similar posts. Methods I can think of off of the top of my head are:
    1. Put in a warm bowl of rice in a warm spot
    2. Put on a sunny windowsill for several hours
    3. (probably don't try unless you're totally desperate) put in a warm oven on a towel with the door open for a very short time
These are only a few options... if you use the search option you will find many, many more.

  • Thnk my ipod got wet while workingout "it snt  turning on Wht can I do?

I forgot to turn on the Ipod when I started working out ( all because a friend) It was in my waist, then when I desided tu use it, It just didn't do anything, My frien told me that it had got wet and I can't belive I'm going to loose my Ipod. I put it on the sun to see if it gets dry, and works again. But PLEASE! somebody say something!

If your iPod has gotten wet, all you can really do is let it dry out completely - I'd leave it in a warm spot for two weeks or so, and hope for the best. Don't try to turn it on or charge it during this time - you may do more damage.
    Good luck.
    Cheers!

  • Click Wheel not working properly after Ipod got wet

Really need some help please as alhough my ipod is sort of working after it got wet, I can play songs and so on but I cant't use the select button in the middle.
This therefore means that I can't even reset it or select options in the menu list like playlist, artists etc.
Any ideas on how to get it working properly again?

hi there and welcome to Apple Discussions!
what you need to do is submerge the iPod in a bowl of uncooked rice. this gets rid of the moisture left in the iPod after it got wet.
that should clear up the problem.

  • HT3302 my ipod got wet by the sprinklier but i check for the red dot and its not there. Yet i am still having problems with it sense. Does anybody know what is wrong?

My ipod got a little wet but it wasnt that bad. none of the inside was wet really and the red dot hasnt appeared.........i was wondering if there is something else wrong with it because it keeps pausing when i dont do anything to it

As a precaution I would dry the iPod by:
How to fix a wet iPod or iPhone | eHow.comfix-wet-ipod-iphone.html
After it is dry I would try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
For a nano the drying still applies
You have to find out how to reset the Nano
Yu can then try restoring via iTunes

  • IPod Got Wet...Screen messed up...help!

So my iPod got in some soapy water (don't ask, I'm an idiot) and now the screen is messed up. I don't exactly know how to describe it, but there are like different shades of color. It looks like, well, a splash of liquid inside of it. Any way of solving it? Is taking it apart and applying a blow dryer safe? Effective?

Update: Checked the iPod this morning and the water spot is basically now a rectangle taking up part of the bottom third or so of the screen. I'm not sure if this bodes well for its recovery or not, but I'm going to let it sit some more and see what happens. Thanks for the advice, and any more ideas / past experiences are really much appreciated.

  • My Ipod got wet, now it will only power up when on docking station, is there anything I can do to fix it?

My Ipod got ran through a washing machine.  I let it sit in a bag of rice for one week before trying to power it up or plug it in.  When I place the Ipod on radio/alarm clock docking station the Ipod will power up and I am able to access what is on it, but it will reset itself every few minutes.  Also it will not charge whil on the dock.  I tried plugging it into the computer but it will not power up or register on the computer.  Is there anything I can do to fix it at this point?

    - After being connected tot a charging source for half an hour, reset the iPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Connect the iPod to your computer and and if it shows in iTunes restore the iPOd.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow you to restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Sorry I missed that you said you dried it in your first post.

  • My ipod got wet and now it keeps turning on and off.

i got my ipod wet and now it doesn't even have enough power to charge. it just keeps turning on and off

    - Yes. Restoring the iPod erases the iPod.
    - Try a reset to:
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try placing the iPod in Recovery mode and then restoring
    - Next try DFU mode

    - If you can't turn it off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for  at least an hour try again.
