My ipod hates my new mac!!!

I have had a 5th generation ipod 30GB video for about a year and a half that I have been using with a PC. I recently received a macbook for Christmas and it has been giving me fits when I tried to connect it to my new laptop. I connected the ipod and clicked sync. When it was almost done syncing, the ipod suddenly started making clicking noises. About 30 seconds later, an error message appeared saying that my ipod had been ejected. I checked the connection to the computer and to the ipod, both were intact. The clicking became louder and I reset the ipod. I then plugged it back into my macbook and restored it to factory settings. I then tried to sync the ipod to my itunes library again. The same error came up, the same clicking happened. Please help, I'm a new mac user and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Make sure you're using a USB and not a firewire cable. Does the iPod ever show up as a disk in a Finder window? Check out the following article:

I just got a new mac and would like to transfer my music from my iPod to my new mac. Ive tried a few programs to do it and it will not let me because of IOS 5. Any help?

if it was bought on the ipod then you can transfer
otherwise you have to rely on the 3th party programs catching up with ios5 way of doing it
apple makes it like this to avoid people using ios devices to tranfer illegal material from computer to computer

So I've got an iPod classic with songs on it from the iTunes store, from CDs of my own, from free online playlists, etc. and when I plug it into my new Mac laptop the only songs that show up on iTunes are the ones I actually purchased in the iTunes store with my old computer (not a Mac). - You can redownload yur apps at no additional cost.  See:
How to redownload purchased apps from the App Store
    - You only get one download of music and it is up to you to make a backup.  However, sometimes if you explain what happens the iTunes store may allow a redownload of music.  You can contact them by starting here and selecting the appropriate topic:

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Need help moving iPod library to new Mac Mini

The bad news is that my 4 year old Mirror Door Dual Processor PowerMacG4 finally gave up the ghost on me. The good news is that I then went out and bought a shinny new Mac Mini. Thinking it would be easy (what was I thinking) I then attached my iPod 2Gen 15GB to my new iTunes and it promptly wiped it clean for me (read as PANIC, as I have literally thousands of dollars invested in iTunes music). Not to be a snob, but I also own a iPod Mini (4 GB) that also had a copy of the library on it.
HOW do I copy the library to my new Mac?? I also have a Mac Powerbook 12" and it has a dated copy of the library on it...
Is there ANYTHING that is easy with these Mac's??

  • Synching iPod Touch with new Mac

Our old Mac died and and the files were not recoverable.  I have not synched my iPod Touch with the new Mac/iTunes.  I have heard synching will wipe my iPod clean.  Can I synch my iPod with the new Mac and keep my apps and music on both Mac & iPod?

If for seom reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy of your computer, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod to your computer. From itunes File>devices>Transfer Purchases

  • Transferring library from ipod touch to new mac

I am getting so aggravated. I am trying to transfer my old library from the ipod touch to my new 27in mac and it is not completely working. I transferred all of the stuff (movies, music, tv shows) from my ipod to the new mac and some of the movies & tv shows that I have WILL NOT WORK nor will they even transfer to my ipod! It keeps telling me that they are not authorized to play on the new mac, and then I go to authorize the computer (which was already done) and it tells me that 'this computer is already authorized' I am at a loss right now, this is about $50 down the drain, and it wont even let me just watch them on the computer because it is saying "not authorized" Can someone please help me? I don't get why some of the movies and stuff work and the others don't...

  • How can I transfer my music from an Ipod to my new MAC? My old computer broke.

My old computer broke.  I got a new MAC Book PRO.  I have all may music in an Ipod classic.  Can I recover my music to my new MAc?

Does the old hard drive still work? You can buy an external hard drive case and transfer data to your new Macbook Pro and recover your itunes libary. As far as i'm aware, Apple have not created software or allow you to move music from ipod to Mac.

  • My old computer crashed, how do i set-up my ipod with my new mac?

My computer crashed so we got a mac, i get alot of songs cds so not all of my songs are coming off my ipod on to my new computer.
So i have all my songs on my ipod and i can have it pop-up in itunes but i have to drag all the music i get off cds that go into itunes onto my ipod. How do i set up my ipod so it will be with my new mac?

As far as I know you need third party software unless you bought the music from iTunes, then it's easy.
    Good luck.

  • Is there a way to transfer music from my ipod to a new mac

I had all of my music on both my ipod touch and iphone when my old computer crashed, is there anyway I can transfer that music from my ipod and iphone to itunes on my new mac so I don't have to re-download everything?

Some of the information below has subsequently appeared in a document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • How Do I transfer music from my ipod to a new Mac?

Hi... i just got a new Mac Book Pro and I want to transfer my music on my ipod to it? Its the only place i have my music stored currently so I want to make sure I do it correctly. If I sync it will the library on the mac take precendence and wipe the music from the ipod? How do I do this?
    Thanx
    Steve

*Do not* sync your iPod with the empty iTunes on the Mac or you'll lose everything that's on it.
1). Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to sync automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod.
2). When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
3). Once you are connected and your iPod is safely in manual mode there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. iTunes will only let you copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
For everything else (music from CDs, other downloads and including iTunes purchases) there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too. 4). Keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
5). I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive

  • How do I put my songs on my ipod from my new Mac

I just bought a new mac. I had a PC. I bought a lot of music and tv shows on the pc and just transferred them to the new MAC. I had to authorize this computer, which I did. But, I still cannot place the songs and tv shows onto the new ipod. Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks

Yes it will. When I try to drag and drop the songs/movies, it will not show the plus icon. I believe the problem is that I purchased them on another computer and simply transferred them to this new computer. Then I had to authorize the new computer for listening to the songs. I fear that this computer, though, does not have the license to, say, burn the songs or place them onto the ipod. That is what I would like to do.
