Unplug all other USB devices except your keyboard and mouse when changing the drive letter. This includes your printer.

IPod classic always in recovery mode
Hello,
Yesterday, my iPod asked me to plug it to restore with iTunes.
Once did, i ejected it and unplugged it, but it still asked me to restore.
It's always in recovery mode : i Can try to restore it a lot of times, but the result is the same.
What can I do ?
Thanks.
PS : Please excuse my bad English, but I'm French.Have you had a chance to look at this troubleshooting page? If not, have a look at the bottom section that covers what to try if the message keeps reappearing: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode - Use iTunes to restore
Towards the end it says "If after restoring your iPod, the message described above reappears, the iPod drive letter may need to be reassigned. See the "Change the Drive Letter" section of this document for steps to assign a different drive letter" which contains a link to this article: Windows confuses iPod with network drive and iTunes may exhibit strange behavior in relation to the iPod. -

Hi tori_42,
If you are having issues with WiFi on your iPhone, you may find the troubleshooting steps in the following article helpful:

If WiFi settings are completely inaccessable because they are dim or greyed out, you find this article more useful:

When my ipod touch is in recovery mode (when I try to re-store it) the itunes page sayes the website has been timed out and so it won't re-store. There is a limited time, whilst restoring the ipod, it lasts for approx 5 mins, then asks to start again all over again. Can anyone please help me?
This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw. -
Ipod touch stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. error code 3194
ipod touch stuck in recovery mode, will not restore and comes up with error code 3194, itunes is up to date, please help
Hi @rchangel - Thanks for the ideas...
Yes - it won't let you install the 32 bit version on a 64 bit machine.
I've had a cursory look at the SP1 release notes, and couldn't spot anything vital - what critical stuff do you know of in SP1?
I don't want to have to go through all the pain of setting up VM's, reinstalling iTunes, getting all my album art back in etc. (though I could, as I do have Win7 pro). I've also heard that running iTunes in Windows 7 compatibility mode might help. Can anyone confirm whether that actually works?
I think it's in Apple's gift to fix this issue, given that they say that they support Windows 7. So far I've had no feedback from a mail I sent to Apple, and the number of users reporting this problem keeps going up and up.
I want Apple to recognise that there is a problem, and then I want them to fix it. -
My iPod touch is in recovery mode, how do I get it out of this?
My daughter's iPod touch is in recovery mode (we know this by the code it gives us when she plugs it in to the computer), how do we get it out of this? We have tried resetting by holding down the on/off button and the other button on the bottom front of the iPod for 30 seconds to a minute and nothing happens.
Two ways to get the iPod Touch out of recovery mode.
From iTunes click "Restore" this will download the latest iOS for your iPod Touch and install it.
Second way is to press and hold both the home button and the sleep button for around ten seconds and release them when the Apple logo shows on the screen. -
My iPod Touch is in Recovery Mode and iTunes Won't Detect It ?
iPod Touch 4G
iOS 5.1
Purchased 2010
I Opened Up iTunes and Upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 from 5.1 as a "Download Only". The Next Morning I Go To My Computer Plug In My iPod and Update. My iPod Then Goes into Recovery Mode and When I Quit Recovery mode It goes straight to recovery mode again with and without the cable. iTunes does not detect it when i plus it in and neither does my computer, i have tried restarting apple mobile support and that does not work. The nearest apple store is 20 miles but i could go there.See if you can kick it out of recovery mode with RecBoot.

My Ipod touch is in recovery mode but when I go into Itunes to restore it, it will only stay connected for a few seconds then ejects itself from itunes. How do I keep my Ipod connected long enough to go through the restore process?
Error 1611
This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. FollowTroubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, this error may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service. -
I 'think' my Ipod Touch is in recovery mode and people say to hold the power and home button for 10 sec and i did, but its still not turning back on. Plus its dead and wont charge. PLZ HELP ME!!!!
- If in recovery mode the screen will have an iTunes logo with an USB plug.
- Have you tried connecting it to your computer for a n hw and then see if it appears in iTunes. If it does restore the iPod.
- If screen is blank, try placing he iPod in recovery mode and then restoring. For recovery mode:

My ipod touch is in recovery mode and I don't want to restore it
My ipod touch is in recovery mode but I don't have my photos, apps, videos backed up. How do I keep my stuff without restoring it?
If this program will not get it out of recovery mode (very doubtful) you will have to restore and erase the iPod.
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode -
I tried to update my iPod touch (latest generation) to the new iOS system. Midway through the 30 minute download of the new software, an alert popped up telling me that the ipod connected was in recovery mode and needed to be restored in order to contiue. So I clicked restore, and the download started again. Once again, the same thing happened midway through. The download continues, and at the end of it it just disappears and my iPod stays on the connect to itunes screen (the one with the usb lead and itunes symbol). I've tried everything on the apple support pages but have had no luck at all. I've only had the iPod for a month now and have had no problems with it up til now. I know there's often problems caused by updating, but after spending hours searcing online for a solution I've yet to find anyone with the same problem, and therefore no solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Maybe if you try restoring to a previous version first, and then restore from backup.
This may help you find out how to roll back to the previous version:

You may need to try this More than Once... Be sure to Follow ALL the Steps...
Take your time... Pay particular attention to Steps 3 and 4.
Some users have reported as many as 8 or 9 attempts were necessary before success
After you have Recovered your Device...
Re-Sync your Content or Restore from the most recent Backup...
