I forgot my password and am trying to reset my ipod, but it won't work.It says that my ipod is in recovery mode and that I must restore it. I click ok, and then click on restore and update. Then it says connecting ipod software update server and a screen pops up with ipod software update on the top and iOS 5.1. It lists a bunch of stuff this update contains and on the bottom it says next, which I click and nothing happens, it just goes back to the ipod restore page. Help, what am I doing wrong?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • I am a forensic examiner with an iPod 5G in Recovery Mode. As a 'non Apple' person, what does 'restore' imply with reference to the 5G? Does it affect any data on teh iPod, like pics, and videos?

As stated in the title, I am a forensic examiner, although most of my work is on Windows devices. My problem is an iPod 5G with Touch Wheel that I received to exam, and I have not been able to get anything from conventional methods. But not really understanding enough about the Apple architecture and iPods, when I plug it into a computer, it appears to be in Recovery Mode, and calls for a Restore. The questions I have are:
    1) How does the iPod get into Recovery mode
    2) How to get it out of Recovery mode
    3) But more importantly, what does Restore do to the device? If there happen to be items of interest (pics, videos, etc), does the restore affect them?

    - You can place the iPod in recovery mode by:
    Recovery mode
or by using this program (there are others too)
RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode
    - Many internal errors in the iPod resul in the iPod going automaticlly (default) into recovery mode.
    - Usual method is to restore the iPod via iTunes to get the iPod our of recovery mode.
iTunes: Backing up, updating, and restoring iOS software
Sometime RecBoot will do it if the iPod was intentionally placed in recovery mode
    - Unless RecBoot or similar will get the iPod put of recovery mode the iPod will be erased. Restoring the iPod erases the iPod.

  • How do I take my iPod out of "Recovery Mode" without restoring to factory settings?

    (iPod 4th Gen, Windows 7)
I hadn't synced my iPod touch for a long time, because just before Christmas, my antivirus stopped working on my laptop, and I got a virus. I was unable to do anything. Because of my circumstances, I wasn't able to get my computer back to normal until just about a week ago. During the time I didn't have access to my computer, I made a lot of purchases in the iTunes app.
Now that I have access to my computer again, I tried to sync my iPod. Since it had been a while, I needed to update it. Something must have happened during the update, but I don't know what. All I know is that now my iPod will only show the "Connect to iTunes" screen (so I can't use it at all), and when I connect to iTunes, it says my iPod is in "Recovery Mode." My purchases were not synced to my computer.
iTunes says to restore it, but I don't want to do that because I would lose all of the purchases I've made since Christmas. They weren't synced, so they would be wiped if I restored it, and only what is on my laptop would be re-synced.
Bottom line: is there a way to get my iPod to work again, without restoring it to factory settings? If not, then I spent all of that money in iTunes, and now what? I'm supposed to buy it again?
Thanks for taking the time to read this; I know it's long. I just wanted to make sure all of the details were there, because I've scoured the internet, and no one has a solution for this, other than wiping the slate clean, downloading a program from who-knows-where, with who-knows-what viruses attached to it, or jailbreaking. And those are not options.

Yu can try to use this program to get the iPOd out of recovery mode.

  • Mac formatted ipod stuck in recovery mode when rescuing tunes onto a PC

    Hi
I have an ipod Nano (6gb) that is Mac formatted. I tried to recover the tunes from it to a PC desktop with Xplay. It started ok and then the ipod entered into recovery mode so it could be reformatted for Windows (I think itunes started doing it).
At that moment I couldn’t recover my tunes. Now whenever I use Xplay again it says "not accessible. The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.” So it’s stuck in recovery mode.
I know the tunes are still on the ipod because the amount of disk space taken up hasn’t changed, despite the ipod not actually showing the songs on the UI.
How can I fix this so I can grab all the tunes off the ipod before I restore the ipod in itunes and thus effectively formatting it?
    Cheers,

  • IOS 5 update forced ipod touch into recovery mode which I can't get it out of! Help please!

Hi, I recently updated my ipod touch 3rd gen to ios5 (as prompted by itunes - assumed a standard software update). Immediately afterwards, my ipod went into recovery mode, and initially itunes recognised this and tried to restore it unsuccessfully. Not any more! Now it is either off, or displays the 'connect to itunes' logo when I connect it to the computer via USB lead.
I've tried uninstalling and re-installing itunes but this hasn't helped it recognise the ipod.
I don't think I've managed to go 3 months without having to do something like reinstall the drivers etc on this ipod, don't know why i expected this update to be any different!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance!

Try disabling all security software and firewalls, then try again.
Or try from a different computer.
This error is a pain in the butt and a new issue, too. I'm sorry.

  • What does it mean when your ipod is in recovery mode and how do I solve this problem

What does it mean when your ipod is in recovery mode and how do I solve this problem?

Unless you have a backup from which you can restore, yes you will lose all of your data and settings.
You should be able to sync your content back to the iPad if you have been syncing with iTunes all along. If you don't sync with iTunes, you can download much of your paid content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID. This explains downloading past purchases.

Unfortunately, at this point, you must restore the device before you can move on. There is nothing you can do to avoid it now.

  • Helping getting ipod out of recovery mode

i was updating my ipod touch to iOS 4.3 and it said there was an error at the end, and now my ipod is in recovery mode. itunes is telling me to restore it. i dont want to loose my data because if i restore i will loose everything. is there a way to save my settings???

The first part of an update is that itunes makes a backup like it normally does during syncing. You can find the date of the backup by going to the Device tab in iTunes' Preferences. If other items that are not in the backup like music and video, all you have to do is to restore from backup and sync,

Don't worry about that. iPod stuck in recovery mode always happens when you update the iOS on your iPod. There are two ways to solve it.
