My iPod is in serious trouble

I think I am going to have to send for a replacement. My iPod is having serious issues. At first, it worked just fine. Then iTunes wouldn't recongnize the iPod but windows would and it wouldn't update. It said internal manager error or something. I tried just about ALL of the troubleshooting suggestions that applied to my problems and none of them worked. In fact, I think it made is worst. Now it is frozen in a white screen and I can't do anything. Not even reset it. HELP!!!
fifth generation iPod   Windows 2000

your comment does not help in any way to solve her problem. people complain so much about how its stupid apple sends out ipods that don't work and blah blah blah, but do you seriously think they can make 42 million ipods and not have a single one with any problems? life has problems. deal with it. that's why you come here and have other people try and help you or you call technical support.
to answer your question, if you have gone through all the troubleshooting steps (5r's, etc.) and still have this problem, then either call apple (1800myappple) or go to depot.info.apple.com/ipod and set up a dispatch to have your ipod sent in for service.

Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

  • Which Ipod Updater was causing trouble with ipods??

  • Serious trouble with new iPod - maybe you can help?

Please help if you can. 15 hours into troubleshooting this and I am desperate!!!
I just purchased a new 5th-gen, 60GB ipod. I already have a 1st gen, 10GB iPod. My old iPod is presently working great with no problems.
The new iPod, however, is not being recognized by my computer or by iTunes. And when I try to plug it in, iTunes freaks. It will stop playing music and freeze on me.
    Here is what happened:
    1. I knew I had the latest iTunes & iPod software on my computer, so rather than running the CD that came with the iPod, I just plugged in the iPod.
    2. When I did so, the computer recognized it as a new device and attempted to (I assume - not sure) install a driver for a while. This went on for about an hour, something seemed wrong, so I disconnected the iPod.
    3. At this point, connecting it always has the same behavior. It flashes "don't disconnect". ITunes freezes. Windows Explorer does not recognize or acknowledge its existence.
Here is what I have tried to do:
    1. I first tried installing from the CD. This installed an older version of iTunes on my computer. This did not help matters and stopped my current iPod from working.
    2. I troubleshooted this and managed to fix my old iPod by uninstalled all iTunes and iPod versions from my computer and reinstalling all of the latest bits.
    3. I have doublechecked my USB ports to ensure they are USB 2.0.
    4. I have tried restarting my iPod in file mode to see if the computer will recognize it then. No dice.
    5. I have tried an iPod reboot, obviously.
    6. I have restarted my computer innumerable times.
My gut says this is a driver issue, but I'm not remotely qualified to troubleshoot that. Can anyone help?

Hey, I've got a few questions for you. 1. What kind of computer are you using? (ie: laptop, desktop, whatever else there is..) 2. Have you ever had the 5th Gen. working on you're computer? 3. Have you tried you're 5th Gen. on another computer which, in the past, has detected an iPod?
Done with questions for now I believe. Here's my story. My girlfriend got her iPod (5th Gen.) in April and right when she got it, she hurried over to my house because she's "technologically incompetant". Booted up my Alienware (now an artifact after being purchased new around 1998-2000) and installed all the gadgets just like the instructions said. After finishing all that, I slapped the iPod into a USB2.0 port and WindowsXP detected, found, and installed the driver for the iPod. I used iTunes to put about 500MB's of songs on there then sent her off with her new WORKING (at the moment) iPod. A few weeks later, I guess when she killed the battery, she tells me that her iPod isnt working.
    Long story short...
She's using a brand new Dell Inspiron [some number and letters here] laptop computer with WindowsXP.
I did everything exactly as you had described in your first post. Few things are different, her computer has never detected the iPod, WindowsXP never found or installed a driver. When her iPod is plugged into her computer, the iPod either brings up a little battry with a lightening bolt (like it's charging) or brings up the "Do Not Disconnect" screen. After a few hours of leaving it like that and I unplug the iPod, it hastn't gained any charge. I checked to make sure everything, ie: plug and play, were all working correctly and all that good stuff; however, one thing phases me. I took her iPod back to my house and tried it on the computer that had the player working before. After a minute of plugging it in, it was detected and I could add or remove songs using iTunes, in other words: IT WAS WORKING.
I would like to see some kind of solution to our problem (which I believe to be the same) so that I don't have to drive an hour away to the only iPod (Mac) store around to replace it (luckily it is still on the warranty).
If you make any progress, please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Serious trouble with Videora!!!!!!!!

I have been using videora and it works fine for movies of about the length of 20 to 60 minutes but if I convert 2 hour movies or music videos that I downloaded from a website then after conversion slowly the video starts to come before the sound or vice versa. I really need help. What should I do???????

Have you ever tried a program called iSquint? I have had no trouble whatsoever with that program for putting videos into iPod format and then adding them to my iPod. I'm not familiar with Videora, but you should give iSquint a shot if you haven't already. It's freeware.

  • My Ipod Classic Is seriously Messed up, Error message -48

Now, I've been having some trouble with my Classic 80g lately (freezing, songs not playing) so I restored it... Now I tried resyncing it, but after a bunch of songs, the ipod displays the connected icon on the screen rather than the synchronizing one, and the computer ties to continue, but it brings up a message that the disc cannot be read from or written to, than displays a message saying an error occured with the ipod, error -48... What should I do!

I have the same problem, dont really know what to do. Have you solved it? or we have to change our iPods?

  • Newly Bought ipod touch restore/recovery troubles

First of all I have no hardware what so ever on the ipod touch. I cant even view anything on it. I have downloaded the 2.2. So I when I finished downloading I clicked restored and on the ipod touch A downloading bar came up. For 10+ minutes its slowly went up and now 100%. It just stayed there in the "waiting for iPod" on the computer even though 100% on ipod.
When I remove ipod and connect again
    it says
"iTunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes"
    I click "OK"
    Then restore.
    This pops up:http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x.../untitled2.jpg
    I click restore and update.
    It then pops up
    extracting software
    then
    Preparing ipod for restore
Then waiting for ipod with a download bar ON THE IPOD ITSELF

Have you tried a reset using the Sleep/Awake - Home button combo?
I had some trouble with the 2.2 update last evening, and was able to clear it all up. Where are you plugging in iPod into? USB on the PC (case, etc.) or a hub? I had my Touch running OK on my powered hub, but had to move it back to the PC port last evening after the botched update.
Seems if it's connected in the right place, iTunes discovers the issue (and the iPod) and you should be able to restore the iPod. I've got 2.2 running fine today.

  • IPod Touch 4th gen  trouble connecting to my Win-Vista 64bit computer via USB.

    Hi,
I seem to have an issue with my iPod Touch 4G. Ever since upgrading to iOS5.
The iPod Touch has had issues connecting, via direct USB, to my Windows Vista 64 bit computer.  When I connect it, via USB, the computer will report the iPod Touch 4G as an "Unrecognized Device."  This prevents me from using the USB to sync the iPod or charge it via the computer's USB connection.
My work around is to turn off the iPod (via red slide bar method) then connect it to the USB.  At this point, it in it will automatically re-start the iPod and then it will recognize and sync or charge.  I can also connect it have it report as an "Unrecognized Device" leave it connected, turn it off(red slide bar) and turn it back on and it will also connect charge and sync.
The problem is that I must turn it off every time I want to connect it.  I can sync via wi-fi (but this causes issues with music that others have shared with me-keeps asking for their i-Tunes account) (happened after I "re-set" the I-Pod).  I needed to hard sync with the computer to make all the rights work out.
This same USB cable and computer works just fine with my other iPods (Touch 3G, Classic) and my iPhone 4S.  Only problem device is the Touch 4G.  The problematic iPod and same USB cable works without issue on other computers (i.e.:  don't have to turn it off and then plug it in).
I've followed the apple instructions and sequence to remove I-Tunes and a bunch of other related software and then reinstall it.  I've reset my iPod. Nothing corrects this issue with this particular iPod.  I've changed USB ports, tried other USB cables nothing changes the fact that I have to turn off and back on the iPod Touch 4G each time before I can get it to be properly recognized by the computer and thus charge or be recognized by iTunes.
This only started to happen to the iPod Touch 4G after I upgraded it from iOS4 to iOS5.  I also have iOS5 on my iPhone 4S - with no issues.  My other iPod Touch 3G is using iOS4.  It connects and syncs fine.
I've figured out a work around but, does anyone know how to fix this issue?  Thanks

    Hi,
Yes, I have restored from Backup via i-Cloud. I've restored the iPod to factory settings.  It seem like there is a driver issue.  I installed iOS 5.01 and updated iTunes to 10.5.3.3 at about the same time.  Win-Vista64, iTunes and iPod are all up to date.  Apple Genius, at local Apple store was also perplexed.  He suggested I ask the community.  So, here I am.
It is strange that I can connect to other computers.  But, the other computers have Win 7.  Could this be a Vista64 driver issue?

  • My 1st generation ipod is giving me troubles.

When I try to connect to the internet, I type in my password and it says unable to join. But if I try it again slowly, it will join. The IP address, Subnet Mask, Router, and DNS codes show up. I can then access the internet. When I access the internet though, as soon as I go to Safari or Youtube, the signal goes to one bar strenght and loses connection. I have reset the Network Settings many times and have even restored it twice. How can I fix this? It may be a hardware problem, so should I take it to an Apple Store?
Thanks for the help! It's hard on a 14-year-old without my iPod working right xD

It does happen to all networks. My neighbor has a linksys network and I can't join it.
It also has a very limited space. You have to be very close (1-3 ft.) from the router to be able to pick the network up. I guess I will take it to my nearest Apple store. Thanks for the help!

  • My ipod deleted everything it had on it and cannot get any songs stored on the ipod.  Itunes has trouble finding my ipod at times, but when it finds it, it won't allow any files i try to put on my ipod stay on their.

I have the ipod classic 160gb and got it just last christmas.  For quite awhile, it worked fine for me, but then one day i turned it on and there was no music or videos on my ipod.  Battery was charged, the ipod functions well, just no music or videos.  I tried connecting to my laptop and it wasnt showing up on itunes, but it was showing up on my computer.  I updated my itunes to see if that worked and it did.  It seemed to work, so I started putting my songs on it and my videos, and after i would disconnect it from the computer, nothing was on my ipod, again.  I did this a couple of times with no result, with resetting it to factory settings 3 times to no avail.  My brother told me to try to sync it up with my computer, so I tried that and it didn't work as well.  I'm stumped on what to do.  Can it be replaced?

When I hover over cover flow it says I have 12851 songs but when I click nothing happens.
When I hover over artists or albums it says 'no artists/albums'.
I can upload again from my CDs but just wondering if there is anything to do. I live abroad so all my CDs are in storage.

  • Serious troubles with my WRT110 router

Hello! This problem all started when I upgraded the machine I'm typing this on to Windows 7 Ultimate.  No matter what I did, it would not connect to the existing network. I finally found a way to get it to connect by entering the router's PIN number, but it effectively created an entirely new network. My problem lies here. I can create new open networks just fine, but if I try to create an encrypted network it will not work -- the computer won't even detect the router. I need an encrypted network because I'm required by law to have one in my line of work, and I have no idea how to set it up. The network is comprised of this machine I'm using, a Macbook, and a TiVo DVR, as well as my laptop which is in for repairs. I might also add that I'm having trouble with the software that came with the router. Ideally, I'd have a secure network with an easily memorable password so other machines can join. I have spent many hours on this and I'm truly at a loss, and some step by step instructions would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks in advance,
    ~Eric
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. You should always access the web interface through a wired connection. Through a wireless link you may accidentally configure the router of your neighbor. And of course you should also never make changes on the wireless settings through a wireless link. Thus, always use a wired connection only for this purpose.
    2. It does not affect your network as it is. It only changes the router configuration. If you change the wireless configuration of the router it will, of course, affect all existing wireless links to the router (if any).
    3. You should not choose a "easily memorable password". That's always a bad idea. The wireless passphrase is usually only entered once on each wireless device to establish the connection to the router. The wireless device usually remembers the passphrase. Thus it is better to choose a very strong passphrase, e.g. a random generated longer passphrase. That is much more secure.

  • I tunes 7.0.2 and ipod 1.2 update trouble

i just updated to itunes 7.0.2 and the ipod update 1.2, and since then my ipod is acting differently. for starters when i go to update my ipod and have it plugged in my computer, the screen back light is is on a dim settings. even if i have it turned off. and the most wierd thing was that when i was listening to music at school, it just all of a sudden restarted on me. why is acting like this?

the most wierd thing was that when i was listening to music at school, it just all of a sudden restarted on me.

if so, perhaps check to see if the workaround from the following document is of any help with that:

  • Serious trouble..

I hope you can help me, you're kinda my last hope..
A couple of nights ago my macbook (running tiger) froze, I restarted by holding down the on/off button for a few seconds.. I went to sleep and the next morning the screen still showed the grey background with a black apple.. Start up screen..
Now i tried restarting, didn't work, I tried starting in safe mode; no luck.. I tried booting off of the install disk and only got a screen telling me I need to restart.. I've tried everything I even took the hard drive out of my macbook, connected it to a pc and saved my pictures and such, erased the disk with MacDrive and now my MacBook doesn't find the hard drive..
I can't get past the startup screen or the screen telling me to reboot...
I've also tried entering single user-mode but am unable to write anything.
I'm at the end of my rope here.. Can anyone figure out what to do???
My MacBook is only a year old but the warranty has expired

If you boot from the OS X Installer Disc and you get a kernel panic it means there's a serious hardware failure. It could be the hard drive, memory, or motherboard.
You cannot format the drive in a PC and expect it to work on the Mac. MacDrive cannot partition the drive properly. You would be better off using another Intel Mac to repartition and format the drive. If you are able to do so then at least you will eliminate the drive as the problem and can reinstall it in the computer.
If you have the original software discs that came with the computer try booting from Installer Disc One and after the chime press and hold down the "D" key until the diagnostics screen appears. Run the extended diagnostics several times. Note down any error messages you may receive.
