My ipod is not being recognised when i connect it to my computer and itunes crashes everytime i connect my ipod. Suggestions please?

I'm having problems with my ipod. Everytime I connect it to my computer, itunes crashes and it says that the device is not recognised. Any suggestions pleeease?

ago so that kinda stings. Ok my PC froze today like
it did a million times before and I had to restore
it, after I restored it I tried to hooki up my ipod
and it said usb device not reconized. When I clicked
on that it said device is not reconized by windows. I
tried different usb ports and the same thing keeps
happening, but the ipod works when I hook it up to my
360 and all my songs are still on there. I also tried
re installing itunes and that didn't work either. If
anyone knows what I can do please help. Thanks.
I just got home from my dad's house and my ipod works fine on his PC, so I thought maybe my usb ports are faulty but all my other devices work on all my ports, the only thing that dosent work is my pod, so my pc isn't busted. If anyone knows what I can do please let me know, thanks for the help.

That does happen. It depends on how hard the server is being hit, as well as the connection speed of your system. If you are on a windows system, you will want to disable any antivirus or firewall software during the download.

Shuffle not being recognised when plugged into USB

I just bought a refurbished first gen Shuffle a few days ago, it worked fine until I tried to plug it in today, nothing happened; no light. I tried wiggling it around a little bit, and the green light came on very quickly, then went off, I tried it on several different USB ports on this computer, and on my PowerMac, same thing on each port, wiggle it a bit and the light comes on, then goes off. I don't see why this is suddenly happening now, the cap hasn't come off since I last plugged it in.
Any ideas?

IF it's an Apple refurb get it replaced at an Apple Store. IF not, and your seller gave a warranty, get the seller to replace it.

Can't sync iTunes! device not being displayed when I connect to computer.

I have been syncing my iphone just fine, now suddenly I plug into my computer and my Device only shows up in iphoto that pops up on screen. Usually iTunes appears as well with my "Device" on the left and the phone would sync automatically. Now iTunes doesn't even pop up. Has some setting on my computer changed not allowing it. Basically I can not manage my phone with my computer anymore. My wife iphone is doing the same thing.

I used to get an auto prompt when plugging in my iPod to my laptop with an option to download only the latest photo's. Now I do not have a prompt, I have to locate the iPod through Explorer and can only find an option to download all my photo's again, even the ones that are already on the PC. I have loads of photos and this would take ages and they would all need re-filing, so don't really want to do this.
I'm sure this is a simple but am not too good at fixing IT issues.
The iPod synchs music automatically with iTunes.

In iTunes, do Store->View my AppleID
Click "Deuthorize ALL"
Then, on any computers you still have, do Store->Authorize this computer. If there are less than 5, you will have no problem.
You can only do "deauthorize all" once a year, so in the future, if you ever throw a computer away, remember do to "Store->Deauthorize this computer" first.

I would recommend the steps in the article below. See the section labeled Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed > For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 > Update the Apple Mobile Device Driver.

Hi all
I sold my iPod on eBay and, as far as I could tell, it was working perfectly when it was sent off. The buyer has sent it back to me claiming it wasn't being recognised in her iTunes and to my surprise it's now not being recognised in mine. I plug in the iPod and it charges through my Mac but does not become recognised in iTunes at all. Does anyone have any ideas as I am going to have to refund the buyer AND the iPod seems caput so it would be great if I could get it working one way or the other. Thanks so much in advance.

I tried what you suggested but it didn't seem to work for me. When i started the error check nothing happened, the bow for checking errors closed immideiatly after i clicked start. Did you do anythig else before checking the drive for errors, like put it in disk mode?

Reintstalled the latest Ipod Sw 2005-26-6 (and the original version 2004 8-6)when the latest load didnt work. reinstalled iTunes and tried to restore my ipod.. when i do, i have a pop up that says that the ipod is locked!!. I have gone on the aple support website and it tells me to format my ipod for windows i need "iPod for Windows Software 1.0" but it states that this is not found on the Apple website! My original pacjkaging only had the one disc with itunes and ipd sw (no specfic Windows sw)... And even if this sw is on the disc.. it wont connect to my laptop as its formatted for a mac!! IPod Touch not being recognised on newly-installed OSX Leopard (10.5.4)

I have an iPod Touch (software version 2.0.2) which is not being recognised in OSX Leopard (version 10.5.4) which I just loaded onto the Powerbook G4. It was recognised under OSX 10.4, although the iPod Touch didn't launch iTunes when it was connected. It was only recognised after iTunes was launched.
I have read some previous posts about iPod Touch not being recognised. One of the recommendations is to reinstall the entire iTunes package. It this must be done to sort the problem, will all of the music in iTunes be lost?
Note my daughter's iPod, when connected, launches iTunes and is recognised.
Help, please.

Reinstalling iTunes *will not* erase your music library.
As a matter of course I do, and in fact Apple recommend that you back up your music library, there is an option to do this under "File" in iTunes. It is really quite sensible to have your purchased and other music files saved elsewhere as well as on your main hard drive, it can save a lot of time and hassle.

My ipod nano 5th Gen is not being recognised on my computer. It is now being recognised by the computer itself sometimes, but not itunes. However, when I plug my ipod into my partners laptop, its fine. More to the point, when they plug their's into my laptop, it recognises them. To me, this suggests that both my laptop and my ipod, individually at least, are working.
I have been through the ipod support page, and gone through all the steps, and to no avail.
Final details. I'm Windows 8, and my itunes is totally up to date. I have re-installed iTunes, and have reset my ipod to factory settings on another computer. It still doesn't work, please help if you know anything about this!!

I have the same issues. itunes 5.0.1.4 doesn't recognize my mini. ipod updater doesn't recognize my mini either. i have uninstalled itunes 5 and reinstalled 4.9, but it didn't work still. something in itunes 5 changed something in my system that reinstalling 4.9 doesn't fix it. updater just shows that i have no ipod connected. if i try to get updater to check for my ipod during the updater installatin, it just sits there and says "waiting for ipod". it's not my usb port because i can read and write to my ipod. i did the entire list of chores that apple suggests on the site including disabling all other functions and services, reinstalling the com port, uninstalling everything, reinstalling everything, getting windows install clean up, e v e r y t h i n g! nothing worked.
I then installed itunes 4.9 and updater 1.4 in my other laptop. i was able to update to firmware 1.4 using that computer. when i put the ipod into that computer w/ itunes 4.9, everything works fine. of course, it asks me if i want to link that laptop w/ my ipod. i said no, because i want to use my original laptop w/ the ipod.
anybody have a solution for this? it's like we all have the same symptoms and going to the same doctor and we end up having to diagnose ourselves. this is extremely annyoying and inefficient.

Used all the troubleshooting tips and enabled disc use too..all these efforts were in vain....Need some quick tips!
