My iPod is not responding when I connect it to my PC. What Should I do?

I have been trying to connect my iPod to ny computer so that I can sync music to it, but it's not responding. I tried all the steps on the apple website & it still doesn't work. I have a 3rd genereation iPod touch.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT4097 my ipad not responding when i connected to pc

my ipad2 not responding when i connected to pc, like no device connection to cpu

Do you mean evil your device is not recognised in iTunes for Windows? If so,
Firstly, make sure that your device is not hidden (left hand pane). If it just reads device then toggle between SHOW and HIDE.
Secondly, try all the other ports on your computer, even a number of times.
Thirdly, if you have another computer try plugging your device into it without taking any action, give it a moment, remove it and try it back in your other computer again.
Failing all that, see here - http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538
And failing all that put the device into Recovery mode. See here and note the paragraph 'If you restore from a different computer.... ' down near the bottom of the page -

  • Safari not responding when HTTPS connections are unavailable

I'm using a 13" MBP with 10.7.2 installed, which is setup to sync calendar, address and bookmarks with iCloud. Since last week I've constantly encounter a problem that my Safari 5.1.1 would keep crashing, and I had to delete the ~/Library/Safari/extensions folder to get it back to work.
This situation happened whenever I've switch to wireless connection. In my office we've setup a limited wireless environment that all HTTP/HTTPS connections will be redirected through a proxy. Since last week the proxy server was malfunctioned. All HTTP connections are proceeded normally, but all HTTPS connections will be suspended. I'm not sure but I suspect it's the main reason for the crashing problem.
    The syndromes are:
    1. When I left Safari open, unplug the ethernet, and turn-on WiFi, everythings goes on normally, until I open an HTTPS web page, for example, https://www.icloud.com. Of course that HTTPS URL will not load, since our proxy is broken; but the connection itself will NOT timeout. I've tried to leave it connecting for 10 minuntes, and it's still there.
    2. The statement above may due to a glitch in our proxy server and I can understand that. But the problem is: after I tried to open an HTTPS connection, the Safari will refuse to open any other URLs, including normal HTTP connections. It will just keep "connecting". Meanwhile the FireFox and Chrome can load these HTTP pages normally.
    3. If I quit Safari in this situation, Safari will not be able to re-launce: the icon will keep bumping on the dock. I have to force quit Safari and delete extensions folder, so that it can be launched again. But even after Safari re-launced, it still refused to load HTTP pages.
    4. Neither reconnecting WiFi, relogin, or switching back to ethernet can fix the problem. I have to restart the whole system to get it back to normal.
It seemed to me that some Safari-related process will keep in the system after Safari is quited. And that process may keep the inactivated HTTPS connections alive in its TCP pool, and blocked all sequence connections, including the iCloud synchronization. And while I force-quit Safari, the extensions.plist file is damaged. That's the only plausible explanation to this situation.
I'm sure this situation is introduced after 10.7.2: it's not the first time our proxy server breakdown, but I've never have this problem before.

I've done some detailed test and now I can give a conclusion:
    1. It's confirmed that sequence HTTPS connection will be blocked in Safari and Google Chrome after a failure HTTPS connection (due to proxy). And rebooting is the only way to recover connections.
    2. My previous observation is wrong: this is NOT a system wide problem. FireFox is not affected. FireFox will return to normal and all sequence HTTPS connection can be proceeded without any problem when I reconnect to a valid network connection (i.e. ethernet), while the Safari and Google Chrome remained being blocked. And DropBox is NOT affected as well.
    3. None of the solutions mentioned in other threads can solve this problem. Checking the "Auto proxy discovery" does not help. Delete ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.revocation.plistfile does not help. Clean Keychain does not help either. I've created another account for testing.
    4. It's apparently something related to some system built-in network services. Since the FireFox and DropBox both gets its' own Proxy implementation, while Safari and Google Chrome will take the system settings. It's also worth noting that the POP3-SSL connection in Mail.app is also blocked after a failure HTTPS connection.
Currently the ONLY valid solution is using FireFox instead.

  • Ipod Nano Not responding when plugged in to charge

I just got my new Ipod nano 4 eddition about 8 days ago. And I was listening to it for about 20 minutes today. I turned it off and when I turned it on again about 1 hour later it was completely dead. It wouldnt turn on.
Then I tried to plug it in to charge and it wasent showing up on Itunes at all. Now this keeps popping up:
The apple sign (The one when you reset)
    Then the main menu
    "CONNECT TO POWER" then.
    HELP

I've had mine for 3 months and it started doing this. I unplugged it when the battery had run down when plugged into my car adapter. I went to plug it into my computer and the screen didn't come on when I plugged it in. My iTunes then proceeded to crash. I restarted my computer and it did the same thing. My computer does recognize the IPod as plugged in sometimes though and shows it as a removable drive but I can't access it and iTunes doesn't show it as being plugged in. I did get a message once that said it was formatted for mac or something but when I clicked ok to get iTunes to format it, iTunes never came up. Help please!

  • Itunes ''not responding'' when iphone connected

    Hi
I have had an iphone 3g for 12 months and has been fine until very recently.
Whenever i connect it to itunes now it crashes itunes almost immediately. I have updated itunes but it hasnt solved it. It seems to charge the phone but just crashes itunes.as soon as i disconnect the cable itunes runs fine. however i have another iphone cable which i tried and it seemed to solve the problem but this solution only lasted about a week before the same thing occured. I have sinced purchased a new cable on the off chance and it still dosnt help?????
    any advice

They sometimes get corrupted on the phone, thus can cause the problem you experienced. The suggestion to reinstall itunes was done first because we always want to try and preserve data. Since that didn't work, we start to look at potential data problems. Glad we got it worked out.
    You're welcome.

  • IPhone 5 touch screen does not respond when laid flat on a table. What do I do?

I just started noticing this when a friend sent me a text and I was unable to "slide to unlock" the screen to reply. I tried swiping through the apps, up and down, left and right--every gesture that an iPhone was built to detect. Even the assistive touch didn't respond! What's interesting now is that whenever I pick up the phone and it's no longer lying 180º on a table, it responds normally. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't be "worried" but it warrants a trip to the genius bar I would think.

  • IPod does not respond at all when plugged in

Alright, this topic is for people who have had this exact problem only. I don't want to get this confused with other problems and have people trying to help troubleshoot multiple problems and get things mixed up. Here's the problem.
After updating to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, the iPod does not respond when plugged in. The iPod still works fine when not plugged in. It plays music and both the standard and shuffle play modes work accordingly. The problem is when you plug the iPod in, it doesn't charge and it doesn't mount. The orange blinking light does not come on. While plugged in, it works the same way as it does when you're listening to music with it. It's as if the iPod's USB connector is dead. Here is my original post and description of the problem.
Alright, so here's my story. I bought my 512MB Shuffle in April. It has worked perfectly fine since I got it. Last night, I updated to v1.1.2 of the iPod software, clicked no when it asked if I wanted to restart, added some songs to the iPod, then restarted. As of this morning, I went to listen to some music while out for a bike ride, and I was greeted with the red battery light. I thought it was a bit odd since I had left it plugged in overnight. I figured, what the heck, I'll just plug it in and let it charge when I get back. When I got back, I plugged it into my PC and left for a while. I came back later and went to grab my Shuffle and I noticed it was cold, which was unusual after charging for a couple hours. I plugged it back in, a bit frustrated, and it never came up in Windows. I looked at the iPod plugged into the back of my PC (a high powered USB port) and sure enough, no orange light. No lights at all. I can still slide the switch to one of the play modes (standard play or shuffle) and play music for a couple seconds before it stops and says the battery's dead again. It works.. I mean it turns on and plays music, it's just not charging or mounting when I plug it in. I tried multiple computers and USB ports, none of which worked. I would really like some help with this considering it IS my only source of portable music and I'm not going to go pay $50 to talk to tech support or have it sent in for repairs. That's half of what it's worth.
I've tried uninstalling all iTunes/iPod related software from the PC I normally use it on and reinstalling it. That didn't work. I also tried uninstalling again and installing the last known working version of the iPod software, still no results. The only thing I havn't tried is giving it a good beating... Not that I would. Anyways, I hope there's a solution to this that doesn't involve buying a new one.
Here's a rundown of the computers I tested it with.
    500MHZ G4 Cube (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
    400MHZ G3 iMac (384MB RAM/Mac OSX Tiger)
4.2GHZ AMD 64-Bit running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (my PC)
    515MHZ Dell running Windows 2000 (256MB RAM)
UPDATE: The BIOS won't recognize the iPod, so it has nothing to do with my computer. Somehow, installing v1.1.2 of the iPod software made it so the iPod itself has USB problems. The iPod works to the extent of playing music and showing the battery charge level. I get no response at all when I plug it in, from the computer or the iPod.
I'm going to have to agree with Philip Harhay on this one. The original 10GB iPod I bought 3 years ago came with a full one-year warranty, no extra charges. I am disappointed to see the Shuffle only coming with a three-month warranty.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------

Help! I just purchase an iPod Shuffle for my son's birthday and I cannot get the darn thing to show up on my iMac G5. I am running OS 10.4.2 and I have downloaded the latest iPod and iTunes software. When I try to restore my iPod to the factory settings it tells me to plug the iPod into the computer, but it is plugged in. I have tried different USB ports, too. I'm running out of ideas and so is the trouble shooting Apple site. I was hoping someone out there might have some ideas.
It showed up at first and I transferred a few songs from the iTunes to the iPod but I couldn't get them to play, so I plugged it back into the USB and the icon never came up.

  • ITunes not responding when I plug in my iPod

Hey all, I need some help. Recently when I plug my iPod into my PC to update my iPod with the new music that I have loaded into iTunes, as soon as I do iTunes stops working and when I checked in my windows task manager under appplications/status it says iTunes is not responding. when my iPod is not plugged in, iTunes works fine. I can't get past this. Yes I did load the updated software, it didn't help. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Todd

This is also happening to me updated latest version of Itunes. Itunes works fine but doesn't show the ipod when I attach. Tried most of the hints on the web site but nothing is working. Plugged the ipod into my base station and hey presto it works fine. I have also tried top re load the ipod software on the lap top but this isn't working either it asks for the ipod to be plugged in when it is plugged in it doesn't see it. Yet in windows explorer you can see the ipod is connected. Any idea's anyone. Shall i try to install version 6.0.0 of itunes instead of the latest version ?
