My iPod is screwed up beyond all realization. Help, please.

Okay, so, my iPod worked as clean as a whistle, once upon a time. I have been using iPods on my windows computer sucessfully for about 2 years now. I attempted loading too many songs onto my iPod at once, and it froze. I reset it and saw that I needed to restore my iPod. I restored it, and then attempted to add all of my songs again. The program I was using to do it (winamp) froze. So, I restored my iPod again and attempted using iTunes. It froze again. I attempted it again with iTunes (after restoring it for a third time), in smaller partitions, however it still froze. I gave up for a while. I came back to attempt again, a few weeks later. The iPod displayed the sad emoticon, and then restarted, and got caught in an endless loop of restarting and sad-faceing. Upon connecting my iPod to my computer, it takes about 2 hours for my computer to recognise that there is SOMETHING attached to the computer, and then anytime I try to look at the device, explorer freezes. Also, I cannot simply restore my iPod because the updater utility freezes when loaded. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling all of my iPod software, to no avail. Also, whenever my iPod is connected to my computer, my audio drivers fail and my computer cannot start up. The "Do Not disconnect" symbol remains on the iPod for about an hour after it is disconnected. What should I do? I am stubborn enough and lazy enough that I don't want to just get a new one. Does anyone know of a third party utility I can use to solve my problems? And solutions at all to my problems? Thank you for reading this wall 'o text, by the way.

  • Ipod won't work at all. Help Please!

My 30 GB ipod is completely dead. it won't turn on, the computer won't recongnize it, and it won't work on a docking station. I've tried to reset it and it won't do anything. does anyone know what to do? any advice would be appreciated

Keep trying to reset it (see instructions below) making sure you are using the hold button as part of the reset routine. Also try resetting it while cabled to the computer for power...
Slide the hold switch from OFF to ON back to OFF then immediately hold down BOTH the center and Menu buttons for a good 15-30 seconds or until it restarts with the Apple logo.
Resetting isn't always effective once and you may need to retry it several times to get it to work.

  • IPod Nano 6th gen won't sync - help please!

I lost my iTunes and all my music when my laptop died, but managed somehow to get it all back onto my new laptop - none of my music is purchased though iTunes but downloaded separately or from CDs. However when I sync my iPod it doesn't actually change anything or add new songs from my iTunes, and playlists on my iPod do not appear in my iTunes. Help please! I've tried manually managing my music and syncing but that doesn't work either, and when I plugging it into my computer it says on the iPod screen that its syncing but it doesn't show that it is in iTunes.

  • Itunes won't open on my computer. I uninstalled it, turned off the computer, rebooted, and re-installed but when I click onto the "itunes" icon nothing happens. When I plug in my iphone or ipod nothing happens as well?? HELP PLEASE.

Itunes will not open. I click onto the icon and it does nothing. I've uninstalled it twice and still nothing. Rebooted and nothing. I plug my iphone as well as my ipod and still nothing happens. Help please.

I, too, am having a serious problem with my iTunes.
It shows that iTunes is taking up usage on my computer but there is no error message when I try to open it. Nothing even happens. iTunes does not come up and I am searching for a possible answer.
We recently had a power outage but we got power back Sunday and when we did iTunes stopped working. Before this incident iTunes usually worked and when it didn't a simple re-start was used to fix it. However now I have tried that several times and it is not working.

  • IPod Stuck in recovery mode... help please!

I was updating my iPod's OS from 2.0 to the latest OS, 4. Midway through the update, the power went out in our city (Los Altos Hills) and the iPod reverted to recovery mode. Now, when I connect the iPod to my computer and try to restore it, I get to a certain point and iTunes closes on me and a popup says iTunes cannot recognize the device. No matter how many times I've tried this (and restarting my computer and iPod), nothing seems to be working. Help would be realllllyy great.

  • Using iPod as primary storage for all music, help!

    Hello all!
Okay, so I bought a 60Gb 5G iPod last month and I'm loving it. However, I'm using it a little differently than most and because of this I'm unable to use many of the conventinal "cures" people have suggested. Here's my situation.
Rather than having my music stored on my computer and then syncing with my iPod I actually store all of my music on my iPod so I can take it back and forth to work with me and play all of my music on my work computer and my home computer. Everything has been going just fine but I've run into a problem with album artwork and the traditional fixes aren't an option.
The problem is that artwork that I've added directly to the iPod isn't showing up on the iPod when I play it when it isn't attached to a computer. I know this is because artwork needs to be added to iTunes and THEN transferred to the iPod.
So, how does someone like myself who isn't managing through music on their computer's hard drive go about correcting such a problem? I don't want to dump everything off of the iPod and back onto my computer, just takes way too long. Can this problem be solved by accessing the iPod DIRECTLY through iTunes?
    Thanks!

    You're welcome.
Although you haven't seen many reports of iPod hard drive failure, it can and does occur as it can with any hard drive.
Maintaining a regular backup of all important data is very important if not the most important. It isn't a matter of if but when a hard drive has a partial or complete failure since none last forever.
I learned this painful lesson the hard way. Without warning, I experienced a complete hard drive failure on a G3 PowerBook less than one year old and the only time I've experienced this but it only takes once. Apple replaced the hard drive under the standard 1-yr warranty period but none of the existing data was recoverable. I didn't maintain a backup at the time and I lost everything.
Currently I use a 3rd party backup utility called SuperDuper! which creates a complete bootable clone backup of my hard drive saved to a Firewire drive. It includes a Smart Update feature which updates files that have changed only between backups.
I never want to go thru that painful experience again so I emphasize maintaining a backup when I see an opportunity to do so. Always better to be safe than sorry.

my ipod mini is not working at all.
It won't turn on and it won't recharge.
When i plug it in it says it does not recognize the USB.. does this mean i need a new USB cord? I don't want to waste my money on buying a new one if i don't need it.

    Try these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.

  • Ipod won't charge at all! HELP!

My ipod is officially dead. I don't know what happened! I tried to charge it on the ipod charger, but the ipod just froze, and wouldn't charge. I never had this problem before. Then I connected it to my computer, and my computer sucked the batteries out of it, instead of charging it. Now it won't turn on at all, it won't even display the charging symbol when I connect it to the computer. The computer doesn't even recognize the ipod (it says the USB port that the ipod is plugged into has malfunctioned), much less itunes recognizing the ipod. I want to restore or reset it, but the ipod has no batteries, thus the computer can't recognize it and now it won't turn on at all! No matter what I do!

wel as it gives the error msg " the USB port that the ipod is plugged into has malfunctioned" its just n issue with the USB port on the computer.
connect to ipod to differnt USB port and always rememba . connect your ipod to the USB port behind the computer and not in the front.

Turn iPod touch off and turn it on again.
If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged.
If that doesn't work, try restoring the iPod. See this article for assistance: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414

  • Ipod + itunes = blue screen of death & reboot - HELP PLEASE!

I'll try to make a long story as short as possible here.
i've had a 40G ipod for over a year and a half now. back in the beginning things were working fine. with the size i hadn't done any syncing for a long long time. however, the ipod crapped out so i got a replacement from the apple store.
after registering the new ipod i was having trouble syncing. it would upload a few hundred songs and then freeze or cause a reboot. i uninstalled the ipod software as well, installed the latest itunes software - over the previous version, installed the latest ipod updater software and restored the ipod.
again, i was able to sync for brief periods in 3 different tries - amassing a whole six hundred and something songs. after each try itunes said syncing was complete (but not even close - had just over 2000 mp3s looking to sync up). unbelievably things got worse. now, if the ipod is docked and itunes is running - regardless of which is done first - my pc will get the blue screen of death and reboot itself.
also, without itunes and the ipod docked, it shows up as an i: drive, but when i try to browse it though my computer, it locks up the machine and shows nothing.
any help out there is GREATLY appreciated!
    here are my specs:
    - ipod 40 Gig, with click wheel and four buttons below the screen with
    dock & firewire cable
    - pc running windows xp pro
    - firewire card with 3 ports
    - ipod & itunes software located on 120G c: drive
    - mp3 collection located on secondary 160G d: drive
    - 3/4 gig of ram
p.s. i have mcafee running and i've tried everything with it on as well as off. doesn't seem to make a difference.
also, i have checked a TON of posts on apple.com as well as other discussion groups and couldn't find an answer.

    hi Douglas!
first promise me that you'll back up your data. having your PC shut down in non-standard ways (for
    b any
reason) increases your risk of file corruption and putting scruffy spots on your hard drive.
Now some basic first aid. download some fresh definitions and do some vigorous virus and spyware scans. run your favorite hard-disk checking utility. do a disk cleanup.
now let's follow up on the blue screen of death. Perversely, i've started to become pleased when people report BSODs under these circumstances. we can wring a lot of information from a BSOD error message. there's also usually something concrete to go on in the error logs.
    (1) what BSOD error number and message are you getting? here's a reference:
    http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm
    (2) squeeze your error logs for all they're worth. right-click on "My Computer", select manage. click on your event viewer. click on your application and system logs, and look for errors and warnings happening at roughly the same time as your crashes.
click on the relevant warnings to see if you can find any commonalities in the errors/warnings. follow up the Help and Support links to see if you can find any suggested "User action" or relevant MS KB documents. (sometimes these things are there, sometimes they aren't.)
    good luck! keep us posted.
    love, b

  • Ipod touch randomly connects and disconnects? help please!

Agh! I'm so frustrated! So basically, I'll plug in my ipod touch via USB 2.0 cable, and it on the screen the battery icon will come up like normal, then all of the sudden it will turn to my wallpaper like its not connected, then back to the battery and switch back and forth randomly! I've tried two different USB cables now and I get the same result with both! I know they work because my ipod charges fine with my AC wall charger thing. The next strange thing is the fact that whenever I plug in the ipod and it stays with the battery icon for a little while, a windows thing prompts that I have plugged in a camera, and asks what I want to do with it? I always just say cancel. Also if it switches from connect to disconnect long enough iTunes will come up with an error message saying something like "The iPhone "" could not connect... blah blah blah. (error code something similar to Ex80000035 i think.)" I haven't had trouble syncing in the past! It just started doing this out of the blue and all I want is to put some new music on my iPod!
Things I have already tried numerous times...
-uninstalling ALL things apple related on the computer and reinstalling.
    -resetting ipod
    -restarting computer
    -using different USB cords
    -using different USB ports
Please help! I really don't want to go back to the Apple store. Please and thanks! (Oh, and in case it matters, I have firmware 2.2, and the latest iTunes)

    Hello,
    A couple of items...
It's possible that a cable can charge an iPod on a wall charger wonderfully, but not sync the iPod to the computer. One of mine are in that "half-broken" stage, so I just ended up leaving it in the system I use to connect my iPod to my television.
Regarding the error you're receiving when connecting the iPod... is the iPod jailbroken? If not, try creating a new user account on your computer and connecting the iPod there.
Creating a new user in Windows XP:
    1. Go to Control Panel > User Accounts
    2. Click on "Create new user"
    3. Follow the prompts to create a new computer administrator
    4. Restart the PC and log in to the new account
I know you've already uninstalled and reinstalled Apple software, but this recommendation doesn't hurt. Open your Control Panel and go into Add or Remove Programs. Remove Apple Mobile Device Support and iTunes. Then, open up My Computer, go to your hard drive, and open up the folder called Program Files. If you see a folder called Apple Mobile Device Support, delete it. Then, restart your computer, download a new copy of the iTunes installer from http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ and go through the installation.

  • My ipad suddenly went to the white with Apple screen and is flashing. I cannot shut it off at all!  :( HELP PLEASE

Need help.  Ipad air screen suddenly went white and cannot **** it down!  :(

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  It could take well over an hour!  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.
