My iPod is 'Synchronized' to another PC ?

I have an iPod classic and one PC on XP Pro. I recently was forced to upgrade my iTunes to v9 after a system crash and now when i connect my iPod, i keep getting the message that my iPod is synchronized to another PC.
If i try to make changes to my library it threatens to erase all my stuff from my iPod and synchronize with this version of iTunes.
Since i lost my library and it is now empty i would lose everything from the iPod.
I was considering getting my wife an iPod but since we only have 1 PC and iTunes will only let you use 1 iPod then i'm not so sure.
1).How can i sort the problem out?.
2).Why can't iTunes allow you to use more than one iPod?.
3).Why do i not get any replies from the technical team and have to ask other users for help?.
4).Is there a better alternative to iTunes?.

Hello there,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!

First of all, is the music that currently resides on your iPod in your iTunes library as well still, or does it only reside on your iPod? If the music is still only located on your iPod, then about the only solution is to copy all of it to your computer. For different methods and steps on how to accomplish this, see this older post of mine.

2).Why can't iTunes allow you to use more than one iPod?.
You can and you should be able to. There is no limit to the number of iPods you can have synced with one computer or iTunes library. You were asked to erase your iPod and start fresh because your iPod is still associating itself with your old library that I am guessing was lost during your system crash.
3).Why do i not get any replies from the technical team and have to ask other users for help?.
Not exactly sure what to say on this one, but at least you can give and receive free help and support in this user to user forum!
4).Is there a better alternative to iTunes?
Click [here|http://www.simplehelp.net/2007/07/08/10-alternatives-to-itunes-for-managi ng-your-ipod> for alternatives.
Keep in mind that you will not be able to upgrade your iPod's firmware or restore it if you run into any issues while syncing it with an alternative program.
Hope this helps.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • IPod Touch syncing to another library

This question involves 3 iPod touches and 1 computer! I am asking this question for my parents who are not that iTunes savy as of yet.
They both have iPod touches that were once synced to their computer. My nephew came over and hooked his iPod up to their computer a while back and now at the top it will say (my nephews name's iPod) even though his iPod is not plugged in. How can they get his name off of there? When my stepmom plugs her ipod up, she wants to see her name same as my dad. When I opened iTunes and clicked on Preferences then Devices, I see BOTH my stepmoms and Dad's iPods listed. My nephews is not listed but that same computer was used to get his iPod up and running at one point.
My folks are scared they will lose all their music if they hook up their iPod's then click the wrong thing.
Secondly when they (my parents) plug their ipods up to the computer its says their iPods are synced to another library. It gives them an option of Erase and Sync or Transfer Store Purchases. All the songs in the current library on the screen is songs my parents both added to their library. This is the CORRECT library according to them. For now, I just had them click cancel.
So my stepmom said at one point she could sign in with her login and sync her iPod and then my Dad could sync his iPod under her login name. They said he didn't have to log her out then log back in with his user email address. Could this be a problem?
Now if they each signed in with their own user and password, can they have their own separate playlists and libraries even though its on the SAME computer?
Would Erase and Sync be the best option? I recently had to use Senuti for Mac for my own iPod for a similar issue but I think that might be a bit complicated for them to learn if I suggested that option LOL!
Im trying to make this as painless as possible for them so they can get back to downloading music and apps. Even though its saying their iPods are syncing to another library, all the music on the screen MATCHES everything that is currently on their iPod's now. This is why I was pushing more for them to do an Erase and Sync.
    What are your thoughts?
    Thanks!!

  • My itunes erroneously says that my ipod is synced with another computer when I try to sync. What can I do to fix this?

First, right after updating my iTunes to the latest version, my iTunes will not display album covers. It says exactly "iTunes is unable to browse album covers on this computer." It has never been an issue before, but, anyway... that is where it all started.
Then I read a bunch of Apple Support topics on the subject, and it directed me to replace my library file with a previous library file. So, I did, and now, not only will my albums not display, but my iPod Touch will not sync with my computer, the only computer I have ever used it on. It says that the ipod is synced with another library and asks me if I want to erase and sync (I have my music on my computer, but I will lose all of my apps and such).
What can I do to resolve this? Thanks for the help.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Do this:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your iPod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
All media content will be erased during the first sync, but you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • Hi I have an 80G ipod classic, It is a few years old and i have recently updated from a pc to Mac. When i connect my classic to the Mac it tells me that this ipod is synced to another itunes account ! If i restore i will loose all my music. Help!

I have an ipod Classic 80G. It is a few years old and hasnt been used for  a while. I have just tried to sync it to my new Mac and it says theat thei ipod is synced with another itunes account!!!
It was orriganally managed through my old pc but as far as i am aware the itunes account is the same. If i sync with my mac it will remove all that is in the Classsic and replace it with current itunes!
How can i get round this ?

    Hi Becki ..
You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

i just need to know what to do so i can start proving to my family that apple really is a good company who doesnt just try to rip people off...

    - You can only sync an iPod to one iTunes library/computer. You can however, manually manage music and videos among different libraries.
Go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.
    - If y wnat to switch syncing libraries/computer see:
go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

If all the synced media like music is in the iTunes library of the second computer it is very easy.

  • What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod?

What happens when an iPod is synchronized with an iTunes library that is bigger than the available space on the iPod? I did this some time ago. On screen was shown available space somewhat less than 120 GB, but maybe somewhere between 10 and 20 GB more in the library. I had to get the iPod updated anyway, so I did proceed. However, afterwards the total content of the library was only about 110 GB. Now I wonder what did actually happen. Was the first sign only corrected for double copies of the same files or lost files or where files deleted from iTunes? And if files where deleted from iTunes, were they also deleted from my computer?

Same as you would if you bought a pc; copy everything from your old computer to your new one.  Then you can just sync everything from the new computer, as you did with the old one.

The 4G/iOS 6 does not have an Activation Lock. That started with iOS 7.
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Problems syncing, iTunes says iPod is synced to another PC

    Hi,
As stated above I'm having problems syncing my iPod touch 5G. It's been a few months since I synced and backed up to my PC but when I connected the iPod to iTunes yesterday, after doing an initial sync, it warned me that the iPod was synced to another computer and that I would have to delete everything in order to sync with this computer (which I've been using for 18 months now with no previous problems when connecting to iTunes; my old PC no longer works so that isn't an option). I noticed after this happened that Music, Photos, and Books were not set to sync, but they had been previously, and I haven't changed anything other than update iTunes to v.11.4, since last backing up a few months ago. I also updated the iPod to v.7.1.2 yesterday too, so could this have any bearing on the problem?
Also I have 9 books which were purchased on the iPod from the iBook store, these are not yet showing in iTunes, and there is no option to Transfer Purchases from iPod to iTunes. If I try to turn sync on in the Books tab, I get the same message as above.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received, Thanks!

From that message it appears you did not restore from backup on this computer/iTunes library.
I just updated/restored my two iOS 7/8 devices that were previously synced to my old computer and they are fine. I had to agree with the option to make this the syncing computer.
With regard to the Backup I selected this option from File/Devices in iTunes, and then restored from that backup, having already synced a few times with this iTunes library, or so I thought!
Are you saying I have to allow all files to be removed in order to re-sync with this computer? I'm happy to do this but worried I'll lose my app data. I'm away for a few days now, so won't be able to sort this until the weekend, many thanks for your replies, they've been a great help!

  • Ipod is synced with another library.

I rarely ever automatically sync my Ipod but decided to sync only one of my many genre's and received a message that my ipod is synced with another itunes and asks the question do I want to erase my ipod and sync with the current computer. Of course the answer to this question is heck no. I have music on my ipod that is not in the current itunes folder and I would lose it forever. So, how can I sync my ipod with the current computer. The previous Itunes is gone and its not going to ever be accessable to me again.
