My ipod isn't being recognized by itunes

My ipod just randomly stopped connecting to itunes. I've tried restoring and restarting it, my itunes is up to date, and there are no problems with me cord. What should I do now?

when i plug my 2nd generation ipod up it won't go to itunes and it wont even register in the computer. But when i plug up the 30 gig ipod it goes directly to itunes and it shows up in the address bar. I ran the diagnostic and it showed that the 2nd generation was the secondary and not the primary ipod on the computer. I wonder if that has anything to do with that at all? I have no idea I've been checking for months i need some help.

What diagnostics?
If you are connecting both iPods at the same time this will cause problems. Disconnect the 30GB while syncing the Nano.

So my ipod wasn't being recognized by itunes so i sent it away to apple to be fixed and they sent me a brand new one but this one isn't being recognized by itunes eitheir? However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
- New cable and different USB port
- Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

This seems to have started happening after the last Itunes update I did as I was able to put music on my ipod touch a month or so ago. Is there some way to go back to an older version of itunes? I really have no idea what else to do since I followed every step on the trouble shooting page for windows 8.

I had this problem too and my roommate solved it!
Go to 'Settings'
'Music'
Scroll to the bottom and enter your password to log onto your home sharing
Then connect to iTunes and sync!

My iPod isn't being recognized by the computer.

I've had my classic since this past christmas (it's the new 120g), and last week, everything got wiped off of my iPod. I'm not sure what happened exactly. I restored it on my computer, and re-synced it. Ever since then, my iPod has been showing the big red X at least once a day. Sometimes I can restart it a couple of times, and it will be fine. Today it happened, and no matter how many times I reset it, it still shows the X. I have it plugged into my computer, but the computer doesn't recognize it. It doesn't show up on My Computer or iTunes or anything. I have no idea how to restore it or what do now. I've tried using the "contact the experts" thing online, but when I plug in the serial number for a classic (8M8398FV2C5), it tells me that the number is invalid. That's the number on the back of my iPod and when I plug that number in the search bar, it comes up with a classic.
Please help me, my iPod is my baby.

2. Check the USB cable
3. Verify that Apple Mobile Device Support is installed
4. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service

I've followed the Apple support to try in fix it and nothing is working. I also tried it with my iPod Nano and got a message about it being detected but not being ID'ed properly.

My ipod touch 5th generation is not being recognized by my computer under devices or in itunes; however, when I click on devices and printers it comes up under "unspecified" and is labeled as "Apple mobile device usb driver." I right clicked the icon and hit troubleshooter and it opened itunes and told me I should restore and update my ipod. I did this twice and nothing has changed, it is still not being recognized. This is a big problem because the only thing that will pop up on the screen of my ipod is the symbol for the usb plug with an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol (meaning plug into itunes I assume). Ipod touch not being recognized by itunes now

i have a friend who has an ipod touch....everything had been going fine for him and then all of a sudden it was not being recognized any more....what caused this? he did say that he had done an update but i'm not sure what version he has....could this possibly be the problem.....does anyone an a fix for this?

I think Apple is having a problem at the moment, my Ipod touch was always fine syncing until the new update! (Even on older itunes version, I could'nt sync since new update came out) It just isnt recognizing the device...
Ive done all that Apple says to do, none of which helps at all, I reckon its thier own side of the problem they need to fix...

After scouring the web and these discussion forums to no avail, I've decided to post my problem. I downloaded iTunes 8.0 yesterday, and updated the firmware on my iPod Touch to 1.1.5. I tried connecting my iPod, and nothing happened. It is not being recognized by my MacBook. So, I tried using another USB iPod connector, and nothing happened. I tried using a firewire connector, and nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried connecting to my one roommate's HP laptop and see if it would get recognized there - no. I then tried on my other roommate's laptop. The device was recognized to be USB, but iTunes wouldn't go ahead and try and reformat it. I'm starting to lose my mind! I've tried resetting the iPod touch itself loads of times to no success. I've tried restarting while having the iPod connected to the computer, and still nothing.
What should I do now?
