My ipod isn't displayed in my computer

before when i connected my ipod, both itunes and the computer recognized the ipod. An extra disc appeared in My Computer (F:), but now there are no F: when i connect the ipod. but itunes works perfectly fine. what can i do, so i can bet back the extra disc?

Switch disk mode back on. You'll find it in Edit->Preferences <iPod>. If it is on go into disk manager and look to see if windows has allocated a driver letter to the iPod HDD, if it hasn't then add a letter (F: as it was before or better still some other unused letter (e.g. I:). If Disk Management can't see the disk at all (which I doubt will be the case) post again.

  • My ipod isn't recognized by any computer & itunes, and desplays a sad face.

i have had my ipod mini for eleven months and this is the first problem i have had with it.
i went on a vacation to flordia, and while i was there my ipod crashed. i had dropped it once a few days before the crash, but it continued to play my music after i dropped it.
when i go to turn it on the apple logo appears, then the depressed ipod.
my ipod isn't recognized by any computer or tunes. when i plug it into my computer, the 'do not disconnect' screen doesn't even appear. all that happens is the apple logo screen, then the depressed ipod screen, then a recharging screen appears that is stuck on the lowest point possible.
i have already tried the "five R's" and everything else in the support pages, and so far they have helped me none. all they do is bring you around in huge circles, and you end up on the page you started on.
i run a windows xp, and have everything fully upgraded.
i know, i know, many of you are having similar problems, but could you please only post if you have an answer, thanks.

I know!!! It worked just fine one day, computer recognized it and i could add or remove songs at me leisure, but now I can't even charge it on a computer becasue it doesn't exsist to it. I also tried the five steps, but you can't restore the settings on it if the computer can't find it. Finally I had my sister bending the charge piece in the ipod just for it to show up, I restored it and it didn't make a bit of difference! I lost all 800 songs on it but I still can't charge it or add songs. If you find anything out, let me know!!!

  • My 6th generation 160gb ipod classic is displaying the red cross logo directing me to apple support. It's completely full and I'm wondering how I can recover the files form it. The iPod isn't recognized by my computer or by iTunes, help is appreciated!

Looking for help as to recover the files, thanks!

    Hello Lawrence,
    I do have AppleMobileDeviceService.exe running.
My USBs are plugging in straight into the laptop.  All 4 work.  Just today, I synced my iPod with multiple USB ports.  It works for the iPod, but the iPhone won't pop-up.  The iPhone does not appear in iTunes as a button anywhere.
I am unable to use another computer for this.  I can actually go into iTunes, add file to library, and add photos that way.  So, it's recognized by my computer.
This should have been seperated.  Basically, I don't have another computer accessible to me to back-up sync on iTunes with.
The last part means in iTunes, I can click "File > Add file to library" and the iPhone is shown as a camera icon.  I can click on it and have access to photos.  I can add those photos to the iTunes library.  That's about as far as the connectivity goes with the iPhone right now.

  • My ipod isn;t recognised by my computer anymore???

About a month ago Apple sent me a 'new' ipod because my old ipod had many problems.. everything was going fine with it until I went on holiday last week.. I tried to plug it into my computer but I kept getting an error saying 'the usb does not recognize device' I didn;t install any new software. I tried connecting it to other computers but I still have the problem, yet other ipods work on my computer....
I was thinking, if I reset it would that make a difference but the thing is I only know how to reset it using itunes and since the computer isn't recognizing is, neither is itunes.
Is there some other way to reset it?
P.S I also won;t charge via usb but it will charge with my car charger.
My warranty also ended 3 weeks ago so without contacting Apple is there some way to fix it?

BUMP please guys, if anyone know what the problem could be please help me/

  • My iPod isn't recognized by the computer or iTunes.

I've looked at all the troubleshooting articles about this and none of them seem to help. My iPod just won't show up on iTunes or in "My Computer" when I plug it into the USB port. I've tried the "five R's" and they aren't helping at all, I'd really just like to be able to get music on my iPod so I can use it.

Have you been through these at all?
iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.

  • Ipod isn't recognized by my computer, itunes,or Ipod Updater

When i plug in my ipod to my computer, it says "USB Device not Recognized". Can anyone help me?? I would really appreciate the help!!!

    Preston,
Try this and it works in my case.
    1.Put your iPod in diskmode
2.Plug your iPod with your computer
3.Your computer may not recognize your iPod, but try few attempts until your iPod showing "Do not disconnect"
4.Then force unplug (not EJECT - just force unplug it and I know it is not a proper way, but which may let your computer to recongnize your iPod) your iPod from the computer and replug again for few times, until your computer showing an iPod icon on the desktop - amazing it did in my case
    5. Reformat your iPod by using Disk Utility
    6. Reinstall the latest iPod update software
Bear in mind that you will loss all your songs in your iPod so make sure you backup your songs
By the way are you connect your iPod with XP or Mac? I have experience that the XP's formatted iPod got recognize in Mac machine and vice versa, then you can format the iPod before your reinstall your prefer iPod update PC or Mac

  • My ipod isn't recognised by the computer

I have a windows xp proffesional on my computer. fifth genration ipod video (60gb)   Windows XP Pro

I forgot to mention - The 4G (the unrecognised one) does start to charge when it is connected to the PC. Also, it is currently fully (or close to fully) charged.

  • Ipod isn't recognized by the computer, and flashs white every 10 seconds

Well upon turning on my 5th generation 30gb ipod video, instead of showing its menu, all it does is flash white for less than second and then go turn black. Since then, it hasn't stopped. My ipod has basically become a broken strobe-light/paper weight.
With that said, yes I have tried restarting it, yes I tried again, yes I tried while plugged up to a power source, and no I can't restore it as it doesn't even show up on itunes anymore.
I'm assuming this thing has bit the dust, just as my last 3 ipods did as well. But if someone does have some sort of fix for this thing, please let me know.
Also, I ask of you guys to try to explain to me why I should keep on dropping 250 dollars on an ipod almost every year, as they seem to not be not holding up very well. I all ever do is use them on my cars stereo system, my 360, or my ps3, its not like I'm abusing them or anything. Its just normal use. 1000 dollars later, Sony's new Walkman and Microsofts Zune are really starting to look much more tempting as I have really lost faith in Apple with my time with them.

My 80GB iPod video 5th generation is doing something very similar.
Please see my post earlier today.
Hope there is an answer to the problem.
    Mine is definitely not abused.
I let the battery go quite flat since my post and it did tell me that it had low battery, please wait, but now it is back to "tick, tick, peeoew".

It's not designed to work like this. When you sync, the iPod stores some information that basically says 'this iPod belongs to computer xyz'. Apple did this to prevent copyright issues (syncing someone else's music).
If you really want to do this, you'll have to at least tie both iTunes installations to the same account. Maybe have them sync with each other.
