My iPod isn't showing up in my iTunes?

My iPod has been discharged for a while because it wouldn't show up in my iTunes library. It said to keep it on the charger for about 30 minutes. After an hour I came to check on it and it still was not recognizing it. I went on Youtube and seen it has happened to other people. It's an iPod Photo and I'm trying to fix it for a friend.Do any of you know anything about that?

Sorry I can't help but the same thing is happening to me. I have a 60GB ipod photo which has sat basically unused for years because I can't seem to get it recognized. Today I tried the procedure to switch it to disk mode which was successful. I could access the data on it using my iMac.
But when I try to use it in iPod mode it seems to be permenantly stuck on "do not disconnect" and isn't recognized by itunes. It seems to appear in system profiler though.

  • Ipod isn't showing up as a playlist for easy transfer of manually selected songs?

Hey Apple Support Community.  Previously iTunes allowed me to add songs individually to fill up my ipod bu right clicking and adding the song to the ipod by way of the "add song to playlist" option in the drop down box.  Sunddenly my ipod isn't showing up as a playlist for easy transfer of manually selected songs?  I've had to create a temporary playlist and use the "autofill" on the ipod screen to add the songs I want.  It's kind-of tedious.  What happened?  Has iTunes changed the way you're allowed to fill up your ipod?  Or is there some glitch in my ipod that iTunes can't see it so as to provide it as an option for being a playlist?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    a few typos:
"bu" should be "by"....fill up my ipod by right clicking...
"Sunddenly" of course should be "Suddenly"

Then you're doing something wrong.  Are you signed in with the same Apple ID on the computer that the content was purchased with?
Did you check the purchase history?

    Hello!
My iPod will not show up in the Itunes device list plus I get an error message
" One or more devices is getting too much power from the USB wire" or sumptin like that.
I've tried this with two wires, so the problem is not there.
I reseted the iPod to factory settings but it didn't help.
    Anyone??

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another USB port and computer
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My Ipod touch is showing a connect to itunes image. How do I fix it without loosing all of my footage and photos?

I updated my ipod but it failed....
Now my Ipod touch is showing a connect to itunes image. When I connected it to itunes it said that I need to "Restore it". But I have video on it that I really, really need. How do I do this without loosing all of my footage and photos?

You do not. You have to restore the iPod. You can then restoe from backup and get to where you were when the the last backups was made.

  • 4thGen iPod isn't showing up in iTunes

I have a classroom set of iPod 4th gen that I am trying to update using a different MacBook than I had used previously.  I am logged into my iTunes account for the ipods but the ipods do not show up on the computer.  Ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

    See:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Mac OS X
Note that you can only sync with one computer/iTunes library. So if you update on a different computer the iPod is erased and replaced with the media in the iTunes library of the new computer.

  • My ipod isn't recognized by any computer & itunes, and desplays a sad face.

i have had my ipod mini for eleven months and this is the first problem i have had with it.
i went on a vacation to flordia, and while i was there my ipod crashed. i had dropped it once a few days before the crash, but it continued to play my music after i dropped it.
when i go to turn it on the apple logo appears, then the depressed ipod.
my ipod isn't recognized by any computer or tunes. when i plug it into my computer, the 'do not disconnect' screen doesn't even appear. all that happens is the apple logo screen, then the depressed ipod screen, then a recharging screen appears that is stuck on the lowest point possible.
i have already tried the "five R's" and everything else in the support pages, and so far they have helped me none. all they do is bring you around in huge circles, and you end up on the page you started on.
i run a windows xp, and have everything fully upgraded.
i know, i know, many of you are having similar problems, but could you please only post if you have an answer, thanks.

      Windows XP

I know!!! It worked just fine one day, computer recognized it and i could add or remove songs at me leisure, but now I can't even charge it on a computer becasue it doesn't exsist to it. I also tried the five steps, but you can't restore the settings on it if the computer can't find it. Finally I had my sister bending the charge piece in the ipod just for it to show up, I restored it and it didn't make a bit of difference! I lost all 800 songs on it but I still can't charge it or add songs. If you find anything out, let me know!!!

  • 40GB Orignal IPod suddenly not showing in Windows or iTunes on Toshiba

I recently had to reinstall my Windows XP operating system on my Toshiba laptop and when I tried to sync my 1st or 2nd generation 40GB iPod in the USB port, my computer no longer acknowledges the iPod. The Apple website solution for Toshiba laptop problems does not resolve my problem. I have the most recent iTunes software on my computer and my iPod plays and operates fine. Does anyone have a solution and/or could provide some insight to why this is all of the sudden happening?

okay, let's check to see if it's one of the non-Toshiba-specific suspects in cases like this.
while the ipod is plugged in, check to see if it is showing up in "My Computer".
if it isn't showing up, let's try:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
iPod missing in "My Computer" or in iTunes on Windows
if it is showing up, let's try:

  • My iPod will not show up on my iTunes following the newest update, yet says its up to date on software?

Recently my iTunes has updated to the latest version on my PC (a Windows 7), and although ios7 is recommended, my iPod tells me that it is up to date with the 6.1.6 it is currently running. It does not show ios7 to download at all, merely says it is up to date on its software. When I try and plug the iPod in to my PC with a USB cable to sync new music to it, it doesn't even register as being there at all. No device option is in the drop-down file box nor does it show next to the music, video and etc icons. I tried restoring my iPod to the cloud and that worked just fine, tried restarting both devices and replugging in the USB, but nothing seems to be working. No matter what I've tried from the FAQ, my iPod is not showing up or registering to sync. It worked perfectly fine before iTunes updated and any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The 4G can only go to 6.1.6. It hardware does not support a higher version
