My iPod just EXPLODED

So I was charging my iPod in my bedroom and I hear a hissing sound from my living room.  I walk in and there's a cloud of smoke because apparently my iPod Nano had just EXPLODED.  I'm not really sure what to do, should I try to notify Apple as a safety precaution?  My iPod's 7 years old so I don't know if newer models would be at risk, but it's scary to think about since I had just used it a few hours earlier.  Below are some pictures.

That isn't necessary at all, Apple is quite aware of this safety issue and has been for 2 years which is why they instituted a recall of 1st Generation Nano's that have the suspect battery, they had a likelihood of failing and causing just what the OP saw. This is briefly explained in the link I added and the OP has already discovered his was one of the units covered by this recall, both with the fire and the confirmation when he went to that link.
Contacting support would be a waste of time. He can however make a Genius Bar appointment at his nearest Apple Store to replace it faster.

  • About a month ago, most of the Album art on my iPod just up and disappeared.

So, about a month ago, for no apparent reason at all, almost all of the album art on all of the music on my iPod just disappeared and was replaced by the default white art. It even happened to most of my purchased music! As time passed, some of it gradually re-appeared, which is really weird, but most of it is still gone. I have 174 albums on my ipod and about only 1/4 of them have art. Before this problem happened, almost every single album had art. I meticulously spend HOURS adding really nice album art to the music on my iPod, and then this happens.
I'm genuinely quite upset. I use my iPod a LOT and have put a lot of money into Apple. A problem like this should not be happening. I'm actually very tech-savvy (going to be getting a CS degree) but this problem baffles me at every turn and it's extremely frustrating.
So, last night, I tried to fix the problem again. I made an album in my music folder and added the proper information to each song, with an album cover (500X500 - all of my album art is 500X500) in the folder where the songs reside. I then plug my iPod in and open iTunes. I then go into file and add the album to my iTunes library, and then I go to the songs and add the album cover to their information via the "add artwork" submenu of the get info on the songs. I then sync the songs to my iPod normally, and the album art shows up on them. Great. Wonderful.
I then think, "Oh, maybe I can fix all of my OTHER album art manually!".
So I go to my artists on my iPod and find an album titled Asteroid (it's a song by Rameses B) which doesn't have a cover but should. I deleted it off of my iPod. I then plugged my iPod back into my computer and tried to re-sync the song Asteroid back onto my iPod but nothing happened. It WOULD NOT, and I mean WOULD NOT sync that **** song to my iPod. It just sat there like I never did anything at all. My method of syncing is that I find the song and drag-drop it to the iPod menu on the right side of my screen.
So then I kind of gave up for the night. It was midnight and I was done with this **** after trying to get that song to sync for at least 20 minutes.
So I eject the iPod from my computer (SAFELY) and close iTunes normally, bla bla bla, go to sleep.
I get up this morning and go to my music app and ALL OF MY ALBUM ART ON EVERYTHING IS GONE. *POOF*, gone. Including the songs that I'd synced last night! What the ****! How does that even happen?!
    Some more information:
I'm running Windows 7 with a fully updated iTunes. My iPod is fully updated as well. As in iOS 7.1.0, non-Beta. It's an iPod touch 5th generation.
So, my question is, how the heck do I get my album art back on my darn iPod?! I have tried manually re-syncing individual songs after deleting them off of my iPod and they won't re-sync. I have also tried re-syncing my entire music library to my iPod, and the result was the same as before. Most of the album art didn't transfer to the iPod.
I'm extremely frustrated at this point. I'm at the very verge of jailbreaking this thing and iFunbox-ing all of my album art over to it forcefully. If Apple can't fix my problem, I will. I'm at that point right now.
    Please help.
Thank you so much in advance.

If for some reason you failed to maintain a backup copy of your computer ( not good), then you can redownlaod some itunes content in some countries:

My Ipod just keeps doing the sync circle, It want stop. Tried to reset it but it keeps doing the same thing I can't even get on my ipod. Not sure what the problem is.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

If you've had it for less than a year, then it's still under warranty.  Take it to an Apple store or an authorized service facility.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434

  • What can I do if my ipod just stopped working?

what can I do if my ipod just stopped working? I just purchased it on Aug 23, 2013. I was jogging with it then it just shut down and have not been able to turn it back on.

It could be, since Apple is not liable for user negligence. However, there is no way to definitevely say yes or no on these forums. Apple will run a diagnostic on the device and draw their own conclusions. I would advise not telling them that part though. Best of luck.

  • Ipod just broke and frooze? Please help

Hello from one day to another my ipod just frooze during the sync process and now I can't even turn it on because it displays a black screen so I can't even toggle through the menu.
I phoned apple and they told me that they would fix it for the same price of a brand new 30 GB (great deal).
Does anyone know of somewhere where I can go or a support email or site where I can ask to see how I can go about fixing my ipod for a reasonable price.
It worked fine before and is not that old so I doubt I need to go out and buy a new one.
    Thanks any suggestions would help.

Does it happen fairly quickly into the importing? If so, another thing you might try if you want to further narrow it down to the iPod or the iTunes, is create a new user account on the computer. In that account the iTunes library will be blank. So add a bunch of songs to that library (File -> Add to library) and then add a bunch from your original library. Then try it there. If it works, then you might have something corrupt in the other user account. If it does the same thing, then likely it is the iPod (assuming it isn't some sort of bunch of bad files that you happened to import to this new account).

  • Ipod just not working period.....

I have a Ipod 120gig classic that i bought from amazon 4 months ago, i worked fine for a the 1st 2 months then one time when i was bike riding it locked up on me. I took it home & let the battery drain then plug it in to charge it & it was fine. Now just the other day for no reason it was telling me that i had 315mb left of storage when i really only had like 50gigs of music & 10gigs of video for no reaon it was saying i had like 50gigs of space used under "other." So I did everything apple recommended in their website...the 5 "R's" (Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall & Restore) and after i followed itunes directions for restoring it & now my ipod just has a blank grey sceen. All i see is that the battery is charging. I do have all the updates for itunes & ive never dropped my ipod or got it wet. Anybody have any idea whats going on or had a similar situation?

I just bought a ipod 4gb nano for my wife and ever since I have been trying to get it to be recognized by itunes. As you described above, I used the updater (2006-6-28), which recognized the ipod and performed the update. Then I ran itunes and it didn't recognize the ipod. I went to Apple's troubleshooting guide and did every single step, even reinstalling windows, after which I repeated all the reccomendations again. I then went back to the store and got them to exchange my ipod since the problem was also ocurring on the 3 computers they tried to connect the ipod to. Guess what? I happily plugged my ipod to the computer and ran the updater again. Same problem. Unfortunately I did not try using the ipod without updating the software. It's kind of hard to do this because once I connected it the software pops up and tells you to update your ipod. I guess that there is something wrong with the new software. I have searched all over the web for a fix for this problem and have not found anything yet.

  • HT1386 MY IPOD JUST SAYS ERROR CODE 2001

MY IPOD JUST COMES UP WITH ERROR CODE 2001 WHEN CONNECTED TO ITUNES,ANY SUGGESTIONS PLS.

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.
The 'device may need service" means a hardware problem.

  • Please help: My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything.

My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything. The songs do exist physically on the device.
I tried updating the iPOD but still the problem was not solved.
Is there any way by which I can play the songs without downloading them again on iPOD?
      Windows XP Pro

I just had the same exact problem. It's like the Nano was forwarding thru the songs by itself..nothing would play!
So I went and looked at the manual, which suggested I try resetting it first. I did, and it worked! Here's what I did:
The manual instructed me to turn the "hold" switch on & off. Then it said to hold down the Menu and center button at the same time, until the Apple logo appeared. Then in a few moments the main screen came back on...and I was able to play songs again.
Hope this works for you, good luck!

  • My iPod just froze what should I do?

I did the new update of twitter on my iPod just now. As I was scrolling and replying back to a tweet my iPod froze. It's been like for for over 10 minutes. I tried to shut down my iPod but it's unresponsive. I would call apple but the serial number to my iPod cannot be accessed since the screen froze. What should I do? • My ipod just doesnt work.

Ive had my ipod for a couple months now. when i bought it off this guy, it had 2536 songs on it and it worked great, no problems. i erased all of the songs and started fresh with all my songs imported from CD's. I imported a lot of CD's, listened to them, got more CD's put them on, worked great, and ive just been putting more songs on (i still only have 342) and after awhile my Ipod just quit working. heres the symptoms:
    Freezes constantly,
Plays only a select few songs after a very long time,
    Doesn't play mostly ANY songs,
Says track is playing, but no sound. (volume is all the way up, not on hold headphones all the way in and not broken at all),
    Some songs skip
It used to work fine. What could be the problem?

    Hello Nick,
If you can hear the sound and the message showing "Do not disconnect", I believe that your iPod does connect with your PC, however, due to some error, your PC does not recongize your iPod. Why we put our iPod into Disk Mode? Because we treat the iPod as an external hard disk, which often got rec ongize by the computer. It did take me several attempts i.e. plug and unplug, and reached the level that my iPod icon appeared in my computer folder. If you manage to reach this stage you can format your iPod which is equal to a HD anyway and fix up the disk problem.
I am not good in PC, but I have few experience that the Disk Utility of my Mac failed to format my iPod, I use erase partition instead. Bingo, which allowed me to reformat the ipod and restored the latest iPod updater
