My iPod keeps making my computer shut down

I don't know why, but whenever I plug in my iPod my computer just shuts down. I have WindowsXP and this has only started happening recently. My brother has had an iPod for a few years and no such problems, but now all of the sudden...anyhow; I've just recently updated my iPod (5th gen. video, 30gig)and iTunes (7.0), does anyone know if there are problems with either of those?
Any suggestions at all!!
Thank you,
-me-

are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
if the blue screen mentions a specific file, let us know what that is called too. (exact spelling, please.)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • A book I created in iphoto keeps making the program shut down with an error message...

I created a photo book on my iphoto but have not purchased yet. Now when I open iPhoto and click on the book under 'keepsakes' the program shuts down and says iphoto quit unexpectedly. I have been unable to open the book since I created it. The other book that I have made before opens but for some reason, the program will immediately shut down after I click on it.

It could be that the database entries for that particular book are corrupted.  Apply the fix below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
iPhoto 8 (09) and earlier- run the options indicated
iPhoto 9 (11) and later- run  Option #4 to rebuild the database

  • Computer Shuts Down At BitLocker Boot Password Prompt

    Hi All,
I have been using this computer for almost 6 months now with absolutely no problems until I encrypted my system drive with BitLocker. I am not using a TPM. Now, almost every time I get to the password prompt for BitLocker at boot, my computer turns completely
off. I am using an ASUS Z97-E. ASUS tech support was completely useless and wanted to pass the blame instead of help, so I guess I'm on my own as far as their support.
I have read previously that this may be related to ASUS products. I cannot seem to get it to boot reliably. If I completely remove power from the machine by unplugging it, sometimes that will give me enough time to enter my password. If I don't, often, it
will only give me a couple seconds (and my password is pretty long) before shutting down.
I have tried disabling Secure Boot and that seemed to help at first but then the problem came right back.
There is a BIOS update available but I'm not confident it will fix the problem.
Are there any specific BIOS settings I can change to make BitLocker stop making my computer shut down? Any Windows settings I can change that might help?
I'd really like to keep my data encrypted but I'm not sure if this hassle is worth it.

    Hi,
Based on my research, this is a firmware problem. It does not matter what authentication method (TPM/without TPM/PIN+TPM/Password only/...) is used, it leaves you only some seconds before it shuts down.
It's recommend you contact ASUS tell them to try and reproduce it. They would need to fix their BIOS.
In addition, we could try to disable "fast startup" as below steps to see if it could be as a workaround:
1.In Control Panel, open the Power Options item.
2.Click the Choose what the power buttons do link.
3.Clear the Turn on fast startup (recommended) check box.
    4.Click Save Settings.

  • Help with ipod and computer shut downs...please.

I've posted this in two other forums to no avail -- lots of views, but no help.
My family now has 3 ipods (we only had 1 before) and yesterday I was trying to get them all set up - updates on the actual ipod, and I've updated itunes to 7.5. There are two issues here:
    1) I am not able to register ANY of the ipods. I get all the way through the process to the very end and then it gives me an error message (after clicking the "No thanks" at the bottom of the page that asks if you want to download the videos) saying that the service couldn't be found? Or something like that. Ok, fine...I can handle not being able to register them for the time being.
    2) I could keep itunes on all day long, as long as the Ipod is NOT CONNECTED. As soon as I connect the ipod (any of the 3 new ones - they all do the same thing) - ok, maybe not as soon as, but shortly thereafter - my entire computer shuts down. No error message, no blue screen of death, no warning - it just shuts down. It might be after I move a song from the "purchased" folder to the actual ipod. Or, as happened yesterday, it's right smack in the middle of a download (happened with both videos AND songs) and then of course, I have to try and purchase it again. I'm not even sure if it took my money already, but if it did, I'm SOL because I paid, but don't have the video/song since it never finished downloading.
I've done everything that's been recommended to me - I disabled all my start up programs (except the windows ones) and that didn't resolve anything.
    My system is as follows:
Windows XP Home Edition (all updated except for microsoft office 2003)
    Service Pack 2
    AMD Athalon 64 3000+
    1.81 GHz
    2GB RAM
Not sure what else you need to know, to try and help me resolve this. Thanks for your time.

  • Computer shuts down while updating Ipod?

    Hi
I have a Video Ipod and an old laptop, my problem is that my computer shuts down 2 minutes after I open Itunes.
My question is, whether the Ipod saves the little data that is transfered, when the transfer is abrubted by the computer shutting down?
(If it saves it I can keep on updating tiny bits of my music libary, otherwise I will stop wasting my time restarting the upload proces over and over again)
    Thanks

  • Computer shuts down when Update iPod

  • Computer shuts down ever time I connect the IPOD Touch

My computer shuts down every time I connect my Ipod Touch. I tried holdin down the On/Off button simultaneously with the Home button as suggested in the trouble shooting section, but the computer still shuts down. The battery is fully charged.

Hi. Actually, I have the same problem. I've had the same problem for about a month now. At first.. it took me a while to realize that my computer turned off because of my ipod being connected. Because at first, it took a couple of hours or so before it would turn off. But now, at for the past 3 weeks or so, it turns off instantly when I connect my ipod to my computer. I've been googling ways to solve this problem - but couldn't find anything, and that's where i ran into this topic.
I know the problem isn't my ipod and ipod usb wire. I connected it to another computer to recharge, and it didn't turn off, and there were no problems. But when i connect it to my computer to update it, it turns off instantly. It doesn't even have time to update.
My CPU has 4 USB ports, and I tried connecting it to each of them.. but the same thing happens. I don't think it's my USB ports either, because i've connected other things to the USB ports, and the computer didn't turn off like it did with ipod.
I'd really appreciate it if an answer could be received regarding this issue.
    Thanks.

  • Computer Shuts Down When iPod Is Connected

Every time I plug my iPod into my PC, the computer shuts down within 30 seconds. I have updated iTunes and that didn't work. Has anyone had this problem and/or how can I fix it so I can load new music into my iPod?

    Hey KSPinStripe,
First we'll gather more information about the computer. Disconnect all USB devices other than the keyboard an mouse. Open iTunes> Help> Run Diagnostics> iPod Diagnostics> Next, then copy and paste the results here.
Plug the iPod directly into the computer(the front or back of the computer not a hub, keyboard, or moniter.) Does it still power off? Does the computer show any error messages?

  • Computer shut down with ipod Nano

When I am moving songs (from purchased folder to the ipod) my computer shuts down. No BSoD or anything -- just a total shut down. I've updated all the ipod and itunes sofware.
Also, when trying to register the ipods (there are 3 new ones in the house, and I'm having to do the same on all - and getting the same shut down results with all) I get all the way through the registration process, but then get an error message saying that it was unable to perform that function.
I'm using an old USB cord from a previous ipod -- could that be causing some of the problems?

Seriously? No one is having this issue? Hard to believe I'm the only one...
I had hopes last night that it was back to working again - I was able to download about 5 tunes and one video, and got 3 songs transferred from the "purchased" folder to the actual ipod, when it shut down yet again. I think I'm on try #22.
I found another post somewhere that talked about shutting down some of the start-up processes and such, which I did, but obviously to no avail.
ANY HELP on this would really be greatly appreciated.
