My ipod mini ACTUALLY only has 2.36 GB of space...help

does anyone else's ipod mini already have 1.41 gb of space eaten up even though there are no songs on your ipod?
if so, can someone please tell me how to delete that 1.41 gb of space?
maybe my ipod mini is just defected....=(

Moe,
It's probably just a software glitch on the iPod which can be cured by restoring it.
Use the latest iPod updater for this (not the supplied CD), and when the updater asks you to connect the iPod, do so and choose restore.
If you have more questions, post back.

  • Ipod Mini will only play some songs

My ipod mini has 43 songs. It will only play some of my songs. The other songs won't even play a single second. I've had some success with restoring via the ipod updater but it keeps coming back. Help?

I've already written to Apple, several times. They sent an auto-reply expressing sympathy that I couldn't find where I had downloaded my iTunes, and directing me to the correct folder...not exactly a helpful answer.
I'm using whatever software came with the blue mini last August when I bought it. I can't be positive, but it seems that the only iPod software updates since then have been related to the shuffle, the nano, ot the new iPod (video), or a system bugs (Tiger) which I don't have yet.
What would have made iTunes stop recognizing the system and the iTunes version associated with the music I bought? What prevents iTunes, at some future point, from suddenly not recognizing my right to play music I paid for and/or insisting that I upgrade something which had been working just fine--until I went online?
Don't get me wrong--I've had Apples for almost 20 years. I have been a fervent supporter of Apples, have referred many people to Macs over the years, and have no intention of using Windows....Maybe that kind of loyalty is what gives the impression that I'll put up with whatever happens, unfair or not. A more accurate interpretation, however, would be that I'll just keep one Mac offline all the time so I can choose what software to upgrade, and when.
But this is an iPod forum...and I digress...
Thank you for your attempt to get to the bottom of this.

  • IPod Mini playing only half a song

I'm having a problem with my iPod mini. I uploaded a bunch of cd's onto my iPod last night. During the last cd my computer and iPod froze for about an hour. So I did the unthinkable and unhooked my iPod. Then all of my songs wouldn't play, so I deleted everything. Now when I upload songs, only half the song will play or sometimes the whole song will play but then the next song will only play a few seconds. It's very frustrating! What should I do?

What I suggest doing is using your ipod updater software to reset your mini to Factory Standards. Then, if you receive any problems during updating, there should be a little green keyboard with an arrow on your start toolbar by the time. It's called "Safely Remove Hardware" and you can use that to end the connection with your computer. And usually when compuers freeze, they should go back to normal within at least a day at the longest.

  • ITunes doesnt recognize iPod mini, which only charges

I just bought my iPod mini 2 days ago and still can't figure this out. Everything seems to be going ok--iTunes is working fine and I can upload music, but it won't transfer into the ipod. I believe in the Source list (in iTunes) there should be an ipod symbol? But there is none. When I connect the ipod to the computer, it only charges. I've tried resetting the ipod, restarting the computer, deleting the software and downloading it again, and nothing. I've tried updating it and it says "Plug in an iPod to update it, which I do, but nothing happens.
Any help would be a LIFESAVER, as I am extremely frustrated by this and am about ready to punch a wall here.

Thanks for your advice... The problem is that iPod doesn't appear in iTunes, so I clicked on the link and followed the instructions for putting the iPod into disc mode so I can reset it. I got as far as (see the picture of the checkmark) to the part where it says 'Disconnect iPod from the power adapter and connect it to your computer; the screen on the iPod will change and say "Do not disconnect"' I did that and nothing happened. My iPod still says "OK to disconnect."
So I haven't the faintest idea what's wrong. I checked the system requirements again, and I believe that my computer meets all of them. Guess I'm at another dead end.
Should I just try to get all this iPod stuff--the cd, cable, everything, replaced? Hopefully by doing so, that might solve whatever the problem is?

  • IPod mini won't hold the full capacity of songs - HELP PLEASE!

In the past few weeks, my library has grown from 500 to maybe 850 songs. Since the ipod mini holds 1000(is that correct?) I should have no problem. Well there is one: it sais "there is not an efficient amount of space" or whatever, meaniing i have too many songs. So i look on my mini and it says that there are only 590 songs on it! There's plenty of room! So, can't it hold 850?
    please help!
    Sincerely,
    Lauren

See your other post. There really is no need to ask the same question twice in the space of a few minutes. : )

  • My 32GB Ipod Touch is only giving me 29GB amount of space...HELP!!!

OK...In a couple of weeks I plan to buy me a nice little stere system...I was all psyched up because I have over 5,000 songs downloaded on my computer so all I could think about was the blast I was going to have listening to my music and what not...Anyway I went to go sync my Ipod and it only allowed me to sync 4,713 songs!!! That's over 2,000 songs that I've been robbed of. If anyone has any answers to why this is happening and how I can resolve this issue I will gladly appreciate it. I have the 13inch white MacBook...I believe it is the Mac OS X 10.6.1

Some of the difference you're seeing also the Touch OS, but it isn't all that large. 29GB is about the normal capacity for a 32GB storage device. The difference is mainly in how digital capacity is advertised vs. how it is actually seen by the CPU. This is not unique to iPods -- all storage media are subject to the same difference.

  • Ipod mini dies every time we have a power outage-help!

my ipod mini dies every time our power goes out.it has been working great with a new(ipodjuice/milliamp)battery, but we've had 2 power outages since, and it shows no signs of life for days and then suddenly next time i pick it up the logo is showing and we're back to normal.we've got a safety switch on our mains circuit board, every electronic gadget is plugged into surge protector power board, and yet this happens every time. the ipod lives on its no-brand charger/speaker-could this be the culprit? & now it's got a new battery it takes forever to fully discharge & come back to life.

My TV is mounted on a wall so I can't connect the Apple TV device. Is it possible to connect to an HD Cable Box and send signal to TV that way? Other problem is that Box only has one HDMI socket so would also have to use a splitter. Tried Apple Support but couldn't offer a solution. I can't be the only person with this issue surely?
    Help!

No, unless you are using a home theatre system already, your only option is to connect to the TV.

  • My iPod Mini Broken/Frozen - Can't find one thing to help my problem :(

First off, my iPod is frozen at the "Do Not Disconnect" screen because I was adding music from the iTunes library to the iPod when iTunes started "Not Responding"(For the first time ever) [while i was transferring music]. So I ended the task and unplugged the ipod, and I reopened iTunes, but my iPod would now show up on the menu. So, I unplugged my iPod (not noticing "Do Not Disconnect") and then reconnected it, but it still wouldn't show up on iTunes. So, then i unplugged the iPod and it wouldn't do anything it's just frozen at the do not disconnect screen WITH THE HOLD LOCK ON! So it will not do one thing; I tried "The 5 R's", but it won't even reset or do anything. So I restarted the computer and unplugged the iPod. When it came back to the desktop I plugged it in and 2 bubbles popped up one said "New Hardware Found", but the other came up with an exclamation point saying
"USB Device Not Recognized One of the USB devices attached to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
When I clicked the bubble a seperate window came up with a saying at the bottom that said, "Recommendation: Try reconnecting the device. If Windows does not recognize it, replace the device." So after that I followed the 5 R's, well tried to, so next I unistalled the iPod Updates and iTunes and then restarted and then reinstalled the iPod updater first then restarted then installed iTunes and it did not help one bit what so ever...
So PLEASE help me, I have NO idea what to do or where to start and I'm not even that computer illeterate lol, but please I need someone's help. I don't know what to do.

Just let the battery die on your iPod… This is only advice we can give you… If I were you, I will insist on reseting it… the best way is to let it die on your iPod too…
But, it doesn't work, and if you're still under warranty, call Apple and ask for a replacement…
    Good luck
but you don't have any strange message such as a folder with an exclamation mark, or a sad iPod with eye-crosses ?

  • My 16gb iPad mini 2 only has 11.6 gb of free storage, while iPad 3 has 13.x gb of free storage.

Why is my iPad mini 2 free storage so much smaller? I read online that other people have about 13-14gb free storage while I only have 11.6gb free storage, and I'm keep running out. Is my iPad mini 2 normal? I feel like I have an inferior iPad from other iPads. I don't know if other iPad mini 2 has similar free capacity.

All models which are the same will have the same space available. However, depending on how you use it and any possible corrupted files, your own free space could vary. To get it back like all others, and to get rid of any possible corrupted files, you should reset your iPad back to its original factory condition. Then you can see how the empty space compares to all the others. But, be sure you do your backups, first.

  • Ipod mini battery only charges whilst updating

I am unable to persuade the battery to go on charging once the music update has completed and the itunes logo says "ok to disconnect ipod" I have checked the port and it's ok. I have also connected the ipod to a different computer and it charges ok.
I tried uninstalling the ipod, it charged ok. Re-installed ipod - won't charge again! What am I doing wrong?

Thank you "confused" that makes a lot of sense.
I have also just restored it which seems to have solved the problem, but I very much appreciate you taking the trouble to reply. I don't think I am the only one to have this problem.

  • My ipod mini says it has no battery eventhough its charged full

Anyone else having this problem? I know the mini is fully charged because I've charged it overnight. Then, when I go to work the next morning, it will lose all power with the battery going on low to no battery at all. Do I need a new battery for the mini?

Normally, an iPod's battery needs to be replaced for every 18 months. Probably it is a sign now !!

  • Ipod 30 gig only has 200mb memory

30 gig video only loads about 30 songs before it slows up and gives errors. It acts crazy and gives me 69 errors among others, then it starts messing up my computer. I have reformatted and restored 20 times or so and doesn't matter what order the somgs go in, only the first 30 or so of my 200+ will go smoothly, the disk reads empty but won't work a message pops up om my lower task bar aying that my hardware or network is corrupted. Tried to change drive letter but same result. Tried formatting, nothing...system says it is working fone and that I have lots more room. Just doesn't want to load past 200mb. My wife's identical ipod works fine with same library, and my ipod sti;; craps out on her laptop.. I reformatted again, chkd disc. Is this a bad hard drive?I've used 189 mb and now I get error -69 on any file I try and load....ANYTHING PLEASE...

Well, I don't know how to force drives, but I did somehow manage my computer to come up with a message saying that my ipod is not setup to go with windows or whatever and ask me if I want to upgrade it... I fixed this part... my ipod always said windows, but some reason I got that message... Now my ipod is back to 18.5 GB ... but now my itunes still isn't locating the ipod and I still can't upload my songs... what now?
