My iPod mini's display is blank

I KNOW that the contrast is as high as it goes, but the display is totally blank. If I keep pushing the buttons I can make it play, but can't read anything. Just this morning when I plugged it into the computer, the battery thing came on very strong, but then it faded and again I can't see anything. Everything else seems to be working well, but like I said I can only do things by trial and error for not being able to see what I'm doing.
HELPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am also having this problem. My Ipod 4g mini was brand new out of the box. I hooked it up to my ibook G4 10.3.9. Transferred songs to it from ITunes and then waited for the battery to fully charge for a few hours. I came back. Dismounted the Ipod, unplugged it from the USB and the screen was fine. But while I was scrolling through songs the screen began to get very faint. I went into the contrast and turned it up thinking it might be an 'available light' issue. It seemed better. I put the Ipod down to answer the phone and when I came back the screen was gone. No next, no pixels. No nothing. The backlight still worked, but there was still no text.
Now the weird things is that the music still played and the click wheel still clicked but I just couldn't read what was on the screen.
Being a long time Mac user (back to the SE), I fushed it out, restored it, reset it, tested my connections. Updated Itunes and the Software update etc. Nothing worked. Still no screen display.
(SKIP DOWN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR ME RANT)
So I took it back to the store I bought it from and was politely told that because I had opened it, they couldn't take it back. They directed me to the local Apple Store here. I took it there and was told they'd never heard of that problem before and then directed me to call the 1-800 Apple support line. I did that and after waiting on hold for 40 minutes (!!), they suggested I restore, and fiddle with contrast etc etc. After telling them I'd done all they, they said they'd never heard of this problem before. And told me to fill out a form to get it sent in to be fixed. Not to mention I bought it for a trip I'm taking and now won't be able to take it.
(END OF RANT)
Now, Apple said they hadn't heard of this problem before. But clearly, I am not alone in this. I have searched the discussions and found a few more instances where people have had the same exact problem.
We have to let apple know there's some sort of defect on these so other people don't get duped into buyin' them.
Oh, and by the way, if anyone has a solution to this screen fading issue. That'd be great. Thanks.
I mean BESIDES the all-encompassing "Try resetting it."
Also, I've read in this forum that a woman had the same problem, sent it back to apple, got it back and the same thing happened again. What gives?

  • Ipod mini stuck with apple logo displayed

My ipod mini only displays the apple logo, will not reset, and is not recognized by the computer (doesn't open iTunes or appear on the desktop when I manually open iTunes). Has charged all day so battery should not be the problem. When I try to reset, the apple logo will briefly disappear then immediately come back on. Cannot get anything else to display. Any suggestions??

Thanks. I tried to put it into disk mode but it wouldn't do it. The apple logo still displays, but now it blinks when plugged into the computer, and stays solid when plugged into the AC adaptor. It is my son's iPod and he just told the battery hasn't been holding its charge as long as it used to. But this sounds like more than a battery problem to me. What do you think? It was purchased in Dec of last year. Thanks for all your effort to help me!

  • Strange case of ipod mini working but not

I have an Ipod mini which had died (blank screen, no response to charger etc) and I assumed it was battery related.
I fitted a new battery but still no response either when connected to my mac or the USB charger?
Purely by chance I placed it in an Altec Lansing inMotion speaker system and it came to life, sort of! It indicates charge, it works ie plays back music through the speakers and earphones. I can even connect to it from the mac as long as I plug the cable into the back of the inMotion set. However if I remove it it goes blank and does not respond even if connected to the mac directly by the cable.
Any ideas as to what to try next having done a full restore once I achieved the connection via the inMotion?
    Yours very puzzled!!!

I am having the exact same problem. I have a mini that was connected to my alarm clock all night, plays fine there and also plays fine on my Bose speaker system when docked.
Once I take it off...nothing. I can't get it to turn on by itself or when it's connected to any computer (also tried 2 different usb cords) and iTunes will not recognize it because it won't power on. I have tried to reset the mini and follow the standard procedure like plugging it in to charge for a few hours but nothing seems to work. Hopefully somebody has a suggestion for this.

    Hi there,
I got the same problem as els1017 from time to time - the computer doesn't recognise the ipod mini after connection, but after a while (about 3-5 min), the notebk computer recongnises the ipod mini & charges it. i worried that my ipod mini is "dead" already everytime the computer can't recongnise it.
Any idea on the normal time for the computer to recongise the ipod after connection? i hv this ipod mini last june (still less than 1 yr), can i make the computer to realise the ipod mini faster?
    tks...pmwcheung
Connect your iPod to your computer. Wait for the
iPod to realize it is connected to a computer. Then,
open My Computer, and see if there is an Apple iPod
or Removable Disk listed under "Devices with
    Removable Storage."
    Let me know what happens!

  • NO PLAYLIST ON iPOD MINI

MY PLAYLIST ON MY IPOD MINI ONLY DISPLAYS THE ON-THE-GO FEATURE.IT NO LONGER SHOWS MY TOP RATED, RECENTLY ADDED AND ALL THE OTHER TITLES UNDER THE PLAYLIST MENU

Ericka, Welcome To The Apple Discussion Site.
If your iPod is Set to Automatic Sync. Then You should Not have any problem With Your Playlist... If they are Listed In the Source Panel On iTunes, and Check-Up, The Songs should be transfert and also playlists To your iPod.
Another Thing, Thank You for posting. But next Time, Post In the correct Folder.. It seems you Use Windows XP.. And You are Under " Connecting to Mac ". and It Should be Under " Connecting To Windows ".
Also, Type Your posts into normal Font. No CAP please.
    Thank You.

  • Blank screen on ipod mini-backlight works

blank screen on ipod mini-the backlight works

    ddzz99,
Have you tried a hard reset or a restore of the iPod via iTunes?
If so, it sounds like either the display is damaged and needs replacing or the ribbon cable connecting the display to the logic board has become loose.  Either way you'll probably need to have the iPod serviced.

I tried resetting it with menu and select but it goes right back to the folder after reset. I have already read apples document so please don't post it. • IPod will mount but has blank screen - display

    Hey guys,
I have a 30gb ipod with video and today I dropped in on carpet at work. Now the display is blank. I can mount it on my imac at home and I even hear the click when i press menu/play/ff/rev buttons. Does this sound like something just came loose?
I tried the 5 R's etc, but the screen will not come on.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Not necessarily. Try http://www.ipodresq.com or do a Google search and you can find sites that give you pictures on how to disassemble it or sell you parts. The link I gave you also does repairs.

    See these troubleshooting articles.
    My iPod is sad.
What does this picture on my iPod mean?
Also, there is a pretty comprehensive post written by another forum member which is about the sad iPod icon. Be aware that it's quite involved and contains some info that will almost certainly void the warranty. If your iPod is still within the warranty period, you should use that option first.

Mini ipod doesn't display screen correctly. The battery discharges very quickly when not in use.

Have you tried any of these?
    iPod won't turn on.

Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
iPod only shows an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
    Putting iPod into disk mode.

  • Display help anyone with an ipod mini

    hi guys,
i have an ipod mini with a cracked display the ipod itself still works like the backlight and the clicker, can anyone tell me how to get into play a song from the main menu using the sounds of clicks eg. 2 clockwise enter, 1 click down enter, just so i can play music while i enquie about getting it fixed. many thanks. joe

    Hello Joe,
Sorry to hear about the cracked display. One solution is to find different pictures or videos of each menu that can be found on the iPod mini and use that to determine how many clicks need to be heard before you have reached the right menu.
For example, I did a quick Google search for "iPod menus" and here is the first result that came up.
