My IPod Mini Won't Update, Restore or be recognized!

I updated iTunes and my iPod software because iTunes wouldn't reconize my iPod.
But it wouldn't update sucessfully and when I restore it, it stops at the end and says "Firmware Update Failure. Disk Write Error"
I changed drive to "I" and tried to reformat to FA32 per other advice, but it said "The Format did not complete sucessfully?".
Can I get any help! It stinks not having my iPod!

/bump
I could sure use some help.
Thanks in advance.

  • IPOD Mini won't update

I have had my IPOD mini for a couple of months but the last several weeks it will not update the new songs I have purchased from ITunes to my IPOD. The battery is being recharged when I connect my IPOD to my computer but nothing is being updated. I have downloaded the lastest IPOD and ITunes software. I have tried to reset my mini but when I hold the menu and select buttons down at the same time for 8-10 seconds the Apple logo never appears. I have paid the extra money for support from Apple for the next 2 years but cannot find the customer support phone number to call regarding this problem. If anyone has that phone number or any tips I would appreciate it. Peggy A

    Hi Peggy
First, let's be sure that you're performing the reset correctly. Lay it flat and with one hand press the select button (the middle round one) and with the other hand press the menu button (the top one). Hold them until the Apple logo appears.
If this still doesn't work, then restore the iPod:

Note, this will wipe everything from the iPod so make sure you have everything backed up.

  • Ipod mini won't update anymnore

One day I plugged my iPod Mini into my PC and there a pop up says "itunes.exe - Corrupt File". I looked at the article and it didn't really help. I updated my iTunes and iPod software, it is still corrupted and now iTunes 7 tells me I can't update any songs until it is fixed.
It suggests me to restore, but here's the problem:
I don't have any files on my Library, I put the songs on my iPod Mini and delete the song on my library.
Can anyone help me with back up my song files before I restore my iPod Mini?
    Please help me! =(

hi there. i truly wish i had an answer for you....unfortunetely im stuck in the same situation and came looking here to see if anyone had a solution. if you find out the answer do you think you could let me know too?
now ive heard a rumor that theres some website that if you pay money it will keep a record of the songs either on your ipod or in your library. im not too sure which one tho. that way if they somehow become deleted youll always have a backup of your songs on your comp. i guess just google it and find out first before you update software. ive done it before and it will wipe away ALLLLLLL of your songs and now ive had to start from scratch. and its telling me that i might have to update software again due to this corrupt file.
anyway i hope that helps and again if you find out anything please let me know!!!!
    thanks, kim

  • Ipod mini won't update, not seen by itunes

hi. my kid bought a mini. at first it worked ok. but then we could not transfer previously purchased songs from itunes. they'd copy over ok, but when we started the first song on the list, the ipod just cycled through the list without playing. then itunes stopped recognizing the ipod. altho i found that if i opened and closed itunes several times, it would eventually recognize. i tried the updater, but with the ipod plugged into the usb hub as required, the update button on the updater is grayed out. help, obviously. specs: 500 MHz imac power pc G3 w/128 MB SDRAM, OS X 10.3.5, mini is version 1.3 (can't update, remember), itunes is v4.9. any help gratefully accepted.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Did you also download the latest updater?

  • IPod Mini Won't Update, HELP!

    Here's the sitution.
I plug my iPod mini into the computer and open iTunes. Nothing happens. My iPod is charging in the computer but I can't update it.
    Help, PLEASE!

Is your iPod appearing in either iTunes or the computer? If not, have you had a chance to look at these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:
iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes
iPod missing in My Computer and in iTunes
iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date

  • My ipod mini won't update the songs anymore.

After updating the software per a prompt when I plugged in, my ipod won't transfer the songs over form itunes.
I have done a lot to try to fix this problem. What was happening is that when I connected the ipod (with the same USB that had always worked before) it suddenly decided not to add any of the new songs in my library.
    Useful info:
*I had it automatically update all songs
*The library wasn't bigger than the space on the Ipod
*The ipod would say that it was updating, and in itunes I could see it saying coping 1 of XX, 2 of XX etc. After a few minutes, it said all songs transfered and I went and sure enough, nothing on the ipod.
Things I did to try to fix the problem:
    *5 R's
    *Reinstall ipod software and itunes
    *change the drive name
*clear all songs out of library and update it so that no songs would exist and then try again (But all of the songs never cleared)
I would really appreciate anyone's help with this.
I have tried restoring, updating software, it's not the letter drive since the system recognizing it (it shows up in iturns) -- the real problem seems to be when I go to move songs over.
Now my entire ipod is empty and I can't get any songs to copy over.
    thanks, Michelle

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
First off, is everything updated? (Did you restore with the latest updater?)
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Also, with the iPod connected and showing in iTunes have you ever tried going to file-->update iPod?
Finally, with the iPod connected go to edit-->preferences and click the iPod tab. Be sure that automatically update is selected, otherwise iTunes may be waiting for you to do something.

    hiya!
then it stops saying the disk can't be read.
is that a "cannot be read or written to"? if so, we'd better check the possibilities from this document (if there's any there that you haven't already tried):
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod

  • IPod touch won't update/restore

I have a 3rd Gen iPod touch (I have determined it is via this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353 and it has the A1318 model number on the back)
I have forgotten the passcode for it, so I have been trying to back it up and restore it. However, each time I try, I recieve the following message:
I have checked my network connection and it is all fine.
Any ideas? If more information is needed, I will try and provide it.
    Cheers, DL

When I was trying to download iOS 5 into iTunes, it had this message too. So I clicked around the iTunes store helping it to maintain a connection to apple iTunes.  This should work when downloading software into iTunes.

  • My iPod Shuffle won't update or restore.

My iPod Shuffle won't update or restore when I put my iPod in it says iPod Service Error or Can't Mount iPod. Can someone please help me?

The same thing happened to me, I called Apple (Is your Ipod still have the free 90 days free phone call?) they told me it was my battery. They said they think I should buy a new one. I did not. I didn't think it is really my battery. Are you connections clean? Have you tried different USB hubs? I've heard the USB's in the back tend to give off more power.
    Hope this helps.

  • TS1363 What can I do for an Ipod that won't update, won't allow you to eject it, and can't reset either?

What can I do for an Ipod that won't update, won't allow you to eject it, and can't reset either? I can simply unplug it from my pc and after a while it runs down and works fine after a charge. Wanting to clear data and sell but nothing seems to work. The ipod was originally set up on a different computer and with a different I tunes account as well. Would that make any difference?

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

  • Ipod mini won't reset

My Ipod mini won't reset. Help!

    1. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) will conquer most iPod issues.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
    2. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
    Still can't see your iPod?
Several things could keep iPod from appearing in iTunes or in the Desktop/Finder when you connect it to your PC/Mac. The most likely causes are listed below in logical order. Check each one starting from the top of the list to see if that is what's keeping iPod from appearing.
    3. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    4. Try another known-good FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    5. Try another known-good FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    6. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    7. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. We've found that in many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. BTW, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    8. Try to do a Erase (Disk Utility) on a Mac computer or a reformat with a PC (Disk Management tool) but ensure you choose the right Drive (your iPod not your Hard Disk of your computer).
    9. Try to run the iPod in “Diagnostic mode” . which can be accessed by pushing the “hold” switch into the “on” position and then “off” (into the original position). Then press the following buttons in the following order: “menu” plus “select” (centre button) then press “reverse” plus “select”. This will take you to the hidden diagnostic mode screen menu. It may take a few trials and pressing the buttons in the right way for this to work, so be patient and keep trying if you have to. The diagnostic mode will give you 7 choices which are: Memory, IO, Power, Status, SysCfg, Diskmode, and Reset. Don’t bother trying “reset” because in my case it didn’t work it just took me back to the same problem. Instead, choose “diskmode”, after which you should get an odd looking “ok to disconnect” sign on the iPod screen.
If one of the above step helps to get your iPod to be recognized with your computer, do a Restore.
But, if none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired. You can arrange for service at the iPod Service Website.

  • Ipod touch won't finish restore

ipod touch won't finish restore.  It has apple logo with almost completed bar and it stops.  itunes still says restoring ipod software.  Just updated itunes.

I had the same problem and the sad thing is that you wont find any solution, I left my ipod over night with the apple logo screen and the loading bar almost full but it wouldnt move, next day it was still there, I had to unplug it, and I'm pretty sure this cause irreversible damage to your device in the long term since itunes warn you no to disconnect the ipod while the sync is being done and it also messed up my computer, I had to force it to shut down since it got stuck with itunes trying to restore my ipod, you just need to keep conecting your ipod until itunes recognize it as an ipod in recovery mode then it will sync again and everything should work this time, that is what happened to me. Good luck.

  • My iphone 5c says connect to itunes. It won't update/restore; error message (27) comes up. I also haven't backed the phone up since last year. Help

My iphone 5c says connect to itunes. It won't update/restore; error message (27) comes up. I also haven't backed the phone up since last year. HELP.

    Hi there owain11,
It looks like that particular error may be realted to a hardware issue. Take a look at the article below for more information.
Resolve iOS update and restore errors
    Check for hardware issues
    Related errors: 1, 3, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 40, 1000, 1002, 1004, 1011, 1012, 1014, 1667, or 1669.
These errors mean that your device or computer may have a hardware issue that's preventing the update or restore from completing.
Check that your security software and settings aren't preventing your device from communicating with the Apple update server.
Then try to restore your iOS device two more times while connected with a cable, computer, and network you know are good.
Confirm that your security software and settings are allowing communication between your device and update servers.
If you still see the error message when you update or restore, contact Apple support.

  • HT4623 My old school iPod touch won't update.  Does apple mess it's customers over by not allowing updates for older models of the touch?  My last update is Ios5.  My touch says its up to date.  So has my old school touch reached its pinnacle?

My old school iPod touch won't update.  Does apple mess it's customers over by not allowing updates for older models of the touch?  My last update is Ios5.  My touch says its up to date.  So has my old school touch reached its pinnacle?

Correct. The 3G iPod does not have the hardware to support an iOS version higher than 5.1.1
To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was releases, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

  • Ipod mini won't charge from mains.

My ipod mini won't charge from the mains lead or a dock but works fine with the usb lead. I've tried different leads, sockets and resetting it but nothing works. It's a pain because if I go away from home for any length of time, I need to take my laptop just to charge it up.
    ipod mini   Windows XP

I say try a different charger. When I wanted to avoid having to take my laptop everywhere, I bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BNZLGE/ref=pdcp_etitle/002-2209999-2570423?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282
and it's worked fine in the six months I've had it... and besides it would cost under $10 to find the root of the problem, much more than Apple would charge, that's for sure.
