My ipod nano 2nd generation stopped being recognised in itunes. using windows 8, all our other ipods are fine

My ipod nano 2nd gen just stopped being recognised in itunes. I'm using windows 8.1..and not had any problems with ipod touch 5th generation or nano 7th gen.
The ipod charges up as indicated by the battery icon but not being recognised at all in itunes or as a connected device or drive on my PC. was working fine the day before then just stopped. I can still listen to the ipod but obviously not load on new songs as not being recognised.

Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and get it serviced. Sounds like the headphone jack has failed.

  • IPod Nano (2nd generation) stops playing some songs after 30-60 seconds

I purchased a 2nd generation 2 GB iPod Nano last week (03/13/07) and experienced problem with some songs stopping after 30-60 seconds and then skipping to the next song.
The songs in question were downloaded in Mp3 format from a CD and they play fine and in their entirity from the iTunes library.
I tried the 5Rs but with no success. Thinking the iPod Nano was defective, I exchanged it today (03/16/07) however, the same problem persists and with the same songs.
I tried compressing the songs but that made matters worse, i.e., the play duration shortened and/or the songs didn't play at all.
Is this an iPod Nano issue or a problem with certain songs? Given that the identical problem exists with two brand new units, I suspect the latter but I don't know what to do.
The songs are not "read only" or "origin-protected".
    Appreciate any assist.
    Thanks.

I've experienced the same problem with some songs that will start playing for few seconds but then skip to the next song. This is with songs I've ripped from CDs and transferred from an old computer. I've tried the 5 R's, repeatedly. It does not help. Is there anyway to fix this other than deleting the songs from my computer and re-downloading from CD's? I've got over 1,800 songs on my iPod and really don't want to go through each one to figure out which I need to reload.

  • TS1369 My iPod nano 7th gen is not recognised by iTunes in windows 8.1

When I plug, it reads a message (I translate from spanish): an iPod has been detected but it can't be read correctly. Unplug and plug and try again. If it perstists reinstal iTunes and try again. I've done all of that. I plugged the iPod when iTunes wasn't installed and it worked fine as an external disk. The iPod's screen shows that it is plugged until iTunes fails to recognise and then it shows the messsage when you explulse the iPod.
    Any help may be useful.

Hi there  - I've spoken with Apple and here is their response (worked for me). You need to uninstall not only iTunes, but also (in this order):
    1) iTunes
    2) Apple Software Update
    3) Apple Mobile Device Support
    4) Bonjour
    5) Apple Application Support
    Then you restart your computer.
Then you install the latest version of iTunes (which will reinstall all those things you uninstalled).
Then you restart your computer again.
Mine is working perfectly again now.
I hope it works for you,
    Carmen.

  • HT5610 is ipod nano 2nd generation compatible with Windows 8?

my ipod nano 2nd generation,  will not sync.  itunes says it is syncing, but nothing changes on my ipod. i tried resetting it, and everything stays the same on the ipod, not matching my current library.   i also tried manually dragging and dropping items onto the device, and still nothing happens.  i don't want to wipe everything off my ipod if it isn't compatible with windows 8, because then i won't be able to put my library, what songs/playlists are already there,  back on the ipod.

it was until the last update of itunes, and many are having issues

  • My ipod nano (2nd generation) will cont connect with windows or itunes, windows says it has had reported errors??? any help? havnt used ipod in over a week and now it wont work with my computer

my ipod nano (2nd generation) wont connect with windows or itunes, i used it last week (charged it through USB) then this week when i connect it (once again through USB) it wont work, it says "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems" any help? ive made sure my itunes is up to date, done a reboot on my computer and ipod and still nothing..help please

This could either be a conflict with the iPod's docking port, the iPod's USB sync cable, or even the USB port you are plugging the iPod into on your PC.  So the first thing I would try and do is plug the iPod into a different USB port on your PC.  Make sure it's a high powered USB 2.0 port as they provide a higher power throughput than older USB ports or even the ones that are sometimes available on the front of the tower.
It might help to disconnected all other USB devices from the PC (minus the keyboard and mouse) and reboot the PC. Then reconnect the iPod once again.
If still no luck, swap out the cable with another known working cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged or faulty cable.
Lastly, plug the iPod into another PC to see if it's recognized there.  If the same error appears on another machine, it's likely a hardware issue with the Nano meaning you'll want to have it serviced or replaced.

  • The speakers on my iPod Touch 2nd generation stopped working.

The speakers on my iPod Touch 2nd generation stopped working.  The volume doesn't even register - can't turn it up or down.  On occasion the headphones will work when plugged in.  Turned it off and on, tried reset, nothing works.  I bought it second hand so no AppleCare. What can I do?

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Should an iPod Nano 2nd Generation Work With Windows Vista?

I understand that many people are having problems with their iPods and come here for support and solutions.
I'm just wondering if the iPod Nano 2nd generation 4g I have that is working just fine SHOULD work with latest iTunes on Windows Vista laptop (which I haven't used yet)?

Just to close this out I was able to connect the second generation 4g iPod Nano without issue. In a matter of minutes I had it loaded, recognized by iTunes with up-to-date software, sync with over 900 songs and almost 200 pictures and then ejected (I manually manage music)! Really sorry for those who can't get iTunes and/or iPod to work!

  • IPod Nano (2nd generation) not fully compatible with BOSE SoundDock

I can't get the remote control for my BOSE SoundDock to function with my newly purchased 2 GB iPod Nano (2nd generation).
The BOSE manual states that the remote control will not function properly if the iPod doesn't have the proper (or later) version of Apple software installed.
The "correct" software that BOSE identifies for the iPod mini (Nano) is version 1.2 or later.
This, however, appears only applicable to iPod 1st generation Nanos.
My brand new ipod Nano has version 1.1.2 software and iTunes has confirmed this to be the most current software for this 2nd generation unit.
Is this a common problem? It's hard to believe the BOSE unit does not cover 2nd generation iPod Nano software.
Other than the non-funtioning remote control, the BOSE unit works fine and with the BOSE-supplied black adpater for the Nano.

Actually, the BOSE SoundDock is compatible with the iPod Nano.
After troubleshooting with the BOSE staff, and some excellent customer service, the problem was narrowed down to the remote control device.
BOSE sent out a new remote control and the unit works fine with my iPod Nano.
Appreciate all who offerred assist in this matter.

  • Can I replace my ipod nano 2nd generation with ipod nano 3rd generation.?

I bought an iPod Nano 2nd generation last year in June and the warranty lasts until June of this year 2008. I want to know if there is any way to upgrade to an iPod Nano 3rd Generation without paying for a whole new iPod. If my iPod is messed up or something, will they replace it with a 3rd generation iPod Nano, or another 2nd generation iPod Nano. Is there any way to get the 3rd Generation iPod Nano?
    [x|http://www.parikesit.com]

If my iPod is messed up or something, will they replace it with a 3rd generation iPod Nano, or another 2nd generation iPod Nano.
If they still have iPods in stock of the older generation, you will get one of these; the color may vary, but other specifications should be the same. If not, you will most likely get a current model.
You may want to find someone willing to purchase that iPod, and then put the money toward a current one.

  • I have an ipod nano 2nd generation with a non responsive click wheel

I have an ipod nano 2nd generation with a non responsive click wheel. I have fully charged it tried resetting it and on two different computers with the latest iTunes I have restored it with the latest firmware then moved it to hold and off hold held in the menue button and select button for 10 seconds but all I get is a screen where I select the language but cant get any response from the scroll wheel.
The hold button is working (I see the lock icon go on and off) I have done the restore procedure and then reset many times but no good I am wondering if I should open it up and disconnect the battery for 30 seconds.
I would appreciate any advice thanks in advance. (This is my Daughters ipod mine is an 8 gig one.)

You need a newer model iPod, a 4G or 5G. The 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1
