My iPod nano 3rd generation won't connect to iTunes!

I have tried all the fixes in article TS1363 and none of them have helped me to get my iPod nano back up and running. I am about ready to through the thing out the window or scream.
This all started about 2 months ago. My iPod was working fine and then my oldest son put in a flash drive to download some music and now my iPod will not connect to iTunes.
sometimes when I try to connect the iPod it tells me that it will need to be reformatted.
Can anyone help me? I am at my wits end and I am really frustrated!

My iPod was working fine and then my oldest son put in a flash drive to download some music and now my iPod will not connect to iTunes.
Doublechecking something. Are you still back at SP2 for your XP? Or do you have SP3 in place?

My Ipod nano 3rd generation will not sync with itunes or show up on windows, but other ipods do when I connect them using the same setup.

    Hey Biglou1,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPod nano(3rd generation) is not recognized in iTunes. The following troubleshooting assistant may provide a resolution:

  • Ipod nano 3rd generation won't turn on

iPod nano 3rd gen.   Suddenly stopped working, Should I assume it is shot or anyone have any solutions.
Was recently working, then a white screen and static.   Wont power on, and iTunes does not recognize it.

    Howdy maggie63,
It sounds like your iPod nano will not turn on, or respond to anything. I want to recommend 2 things here.
First, reset the iPod with these steps:
    Reset
    To reset your iPod:
    1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
    Tip:
If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
If the above steps did not work, try connecting iPod to a power adapter and plug the power adapter into an electrical outlet, or connect iPod to your computer. Make sure the computer is turned on and isn't set to go to sleep.
If that does not work I would next try to restore the iPod with iTunes:
    1. Make sure you've reinstalled the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes, and then connect your iPod to your computer.
    3. After a few moments, it will appear in the source list in iTunes. If the iPod's display doesn't show "Connected" or "Do not disconnect" you may need to put the iPod into disk mode to proceed.
    4. Select your iPod in the source list and you will see information about it appear in the Summary tab of the main iTunes windows.
    5. Click the Restore button. You will be prompted with one or more restore options that may prompt iTunes to automatically download of the latest iPod Software. The 4 possible restore options are:
Restore Option 1: Restore - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod.
Restore Option 2: Use Same Version - Restores with same iPod Software version already on iPod, even though a newer version is available.
Restore Option 3: Use Newest Version - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
Restore Option 4: Restore and Update - Restores with latest iPod Software version on your computer.
    6. A message will appear prompting you to enter an administrator's name and password.
    7. A progress bar will appear on the computer screen indicating that the first stage of the restore process has started. When this stage is completed, iTunes will instruct you to leave iPod connected to your computer to complete restore.
    8. During the stage 2 of the restore process, the iPod will show an Apple logo as well as a progress bar at the bottom of the display. It is critical that the iPod remains connected to the computer or iPod Power adapter during this stage. Note: The progress bar may be difficult to see since the backlight on the iPod display may be off.
    9. After stage 2 of the restore process is complete and the iPod is connected to the computer, the iTunes Setup Assistant window will appear asking you to name your iPod and choose your syncing preferences similar to when you connected your iPod for the first time.

  • Ipod nano (1st Generation) won't connect to new GMC vehicle

I just purchased a new GMC Terrain (2010 model). One of the cool features on this car is the USB port and 10 GB hard drive for uploading music to your vehicle. All of the manuals in the car say that it is compatible with all makes and models of Ipod for uploading music. However, every time I have tried plugging in my 1st generation Ipod or my wifes 2nd generation Ipod, the car does not recognize the unit. I was told by GM that the car only uploads stereo music files and not mono music files, but I'm pretty sure all of my files are stereo. Also, a friend has an iphone and her unit was recognized by the vehicle when we tried that. Anybody run into anything like this or have any suggestions? Thanks.

    Hello Rocio85,
The following article outlines a number of things worth double-checking and troubleshooting steps, as well, that may help get your stereo talking to your iPod again.

  • Re : My ipod nano 3rd generations won't turn on . ? Help

My ipod nano wont turn on . itried to change it but still nothing . Can someone help me .?

Try resetting it, hold down the center button and the menu button at the same time for about 15-30 seconds or when the apple appears let go of both buttons. If this does not work, do the same thing while it is plugged into the computer or outlet.

Why won't it sync anymore? Does iTunes still see the device? If so, are you getting any error message during the sync process?  Need a bit more detail in order to assist you.

  • My iPod touch 1st generation won't connect to iTunes or YouTube.

Please advise how to resolve issue.

If you mean that when you connect the iPod to your computer it does not appear iniTunes then:
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Features app in the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

  • My ipod touch 5th generation won't connect to itunes or my computer.

So i was syncing my ipod touch to itunes, however in the middle of the syncing itunes froze. So i closed itunes and now when i plug my ipod touch back in it wont recognize it or connect to my computer at all. And if i just plug my charger in, it'll pop up as a device, but once i plug my ipod into the charger it shows up as now device connected at all. How can i fix this? i really do not want to have to restart my ipod but if thats what i have to do i'll do it.

    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    Then try again.
