My ipod nano 4g won't update to firmware 1.2

I bought a nike+ sports kit and realised my itunes needed updated, so I did that.  Then I realised I needed to update the software as the version I have is 1.0.4 & when I check for updates itunes tells me the software is up to date.  I've restored the my nano 4g & still it doesn't update the firmware.  I really don't know what else I can do.  Any suggestions?

Do you have the Nike+ receiver firmly connected to the bottom of your nano?
Have you reset your Nano? (hold the menu and the center buttong for 5+ seconds until the Apple logo appears)
also have you tested your receiver on another iPod to see if perhaps the receiver is malfunctioning?

  • My iPod Nano 8GB won't update to 1.2

How do i update my nano to 1.2.
It is currently 1.1.1 and indicates it is up to date. I have access to the 1.2, but I ave not had access through iTunes to update and I can not figure out how to update.
iPod nano 1.2 or later is required for the Nike+iPod.

Ok, alot of you all using the Nike sport kit keep misunderstanding the chart for this (also, the wording for the Nike sport kit may be a little misleading and needs to be updated). Your 2nd gen 8GB nano can not be updated to v1.2 because that is not the latest software for the 2nd gen. v1.1.1 is the latest one. The info listed for the Nike sports kit and the nano is in reference to the 1st gen nano, which current software version is 1.3 (it was 1.2 which is why the Nike thing says 1.2 or higher). This is why you can't update it. I believe they just haven't adjusted the info in relation to the Nike sports kit to include the 2nd gen nano. It is my understanding though that the kit works with the 2nd gen also, so no worries. Take a look at the link below and look closely at the different nano models and the software showing for it.

The first generation Intel-based Mac's were released in January 2006.
Snow Leopard requires an Intel processor:
    General requirements
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
If you go to the Apple menu & "About this Mac" this will tell you what type of processor you have:

  • IPod Touch 3 won't update apps

iPod Touch 3 won't update apps. When I respond to the notice of an available update, the icon dims and a "waiting" message appears under it. It will hang like that until I delete it and reinstall the new app. I had another problem that has been resolved when I tried to get more episodes of a podcast, I ended up with 11 of them in the queue that wouldn't ever finish. They too would just hang there. I had to delete them all and get them through iTunes. I don't know how to upgrade the apps from iTunes though. Why is this happening just since I upgraded to ios 5.0.1?

    I suppose that's debatable.
My iPod does ocassionaly take a few seconds to carry out a command, but since it is such a powerful device, capable of so much, I'm prepared to wait two extra seconds.
(I have 2nd generation iPod Touch with iOS 4.2.1 on it.)

  • Can't connect iPod nano since latest iTunes update. Please help :(

Ever since I downloaded the latest versions of iTunes, my 5th gen iPod nano won't connect. I get a pop-up that says, "Could not install hardware" or something to that affect. I switched cables and usb ports, and no change. What should I do?
I was thinking I want to go back to a previous iTunes version, but I have no idea if you can uninstall a version. I've only ever seen tips on uninstalling the whole thing and reinstalling the same one.
The best "solution" I've gotten was to buy a new iPod, that I was out of luck and the new iTunes versions obviously don't support older iPods, but I don't think that's right. If it is, Apple has lost a customer forever.
If anyone has any tips, I would really appreciate your help.

About one out of every 5 times now my Iphone will sync, the other times it will give one of several errors(see thread above) or it will just stay on the syncing deal forever.
I have not put ANY third party apps on or done anything. Hey Apple, instead of continually putting out updates to turn peoples unlocked phones into bricks, how about addresses some of these syncing issues??
    thanks!!

  • After restoring my iPod Nano it won't reset.

Recently I had some trouble with my iPod Nano (4th Generation) where whenever I plugged it in iTunes would freeze and my computer would be unable to access the iPod or unplug it. This occurred after updating iTunes and then restarting my computer while the iPod was still plugged in, for whatever reason my computer would not log out with the iPod still plugged in so I had to remove it physically. When I tried plugging it back in the computer would not restart until I had removed it again. After all this whenever I tried plugging it in iTunes would freeze and stop responding and I Windows would not let me access it. After reading some articles, reinstalling iTunes and rebuilding my library I eventually managed to get the iPod connected by putting it in disk mode and then connecting it to my computer. With that done I then proceeded to try restoring the iPod. This appeared to work but I think I removed prematurely when it appeared that it wasn't going to get past the apple logo. I tried again and got it back into disk mode and tried restoring it again. This time I have left it plugged in with iTunes open but it still won't go past the apple logo and it has been like that for at least 30 minutes. Is it still recoverable?

  • My itunes no longer recognises my ipod nano and won't sync.  Any advice?

My ipod nano is no longer recognised by itunes and won't sync.  Itunes is on a Window 8 computer and while windows sees the device, itunes won't?  Any advice?

    Hi caro101,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The article below will help you troubleshoot the issue you are having with your iPod nano not being recognized in iTunes.
iPod: Appears in Windows but not in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363?viewlocale=en_US
If you see your iPod in My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8) but not in iTunes under Devices, try these steps. Start at the top and work your way through the steps until iTunes recognizes your iPod.
If you don't see your iPod in My Computer, follow these steps.
This document is for Windows users and most older iPod models. See the following articles if you have this issue on:
    A Mac
An iOS device (iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch)
An iPod nano (5th or 6th generation) (and you see an alert message in iTunes when you connect the device)

  • IPod Nano 4GB won't connect!! help please!

    ok so here's my problem::
i lost my original USB 2.0 charger cord and i got a new one yesterday. same thing..
only thing is, my iPod won't charge now. first, i plugged it into the laptop, and it said i needed to download iTunes. i did that & still didn't work. then, i tried charging it on the original computer i used to install my iPod when i got it. it still wont work. i tried the directions in the book the iPod Nano came with, and that didn't work..
    !!HELP!!

The fifth generation iPods do not support synchronization through FireWire because they don't have the hardware component to include this. The component was dropped in part because syncing your entire iTunes library normally only needs to be done once unless the iPod is restored, and it will take longer for the iPod to fully charge than it will take to complete the synchronization through USB, and partially to make the iPod slightly smaller and save money. The time difference needed for subsequent synchronizations isn't nearly as noticeable.

  • IPod nano 4GB won't turn on

I bought a 4GB ipod nano for my girlfriend three weeks ago. The 060628 update was applied directly.
After working fine for two weeks, now suddenly the only way to get it to wake from sleep is to perform a reset.
Apart from this it seems to work normally: after "turning it on" (hold on/hold off, menu+select) all buttons work ok, it plays music, synchs with itunes etc. But after turning it off it becomes unresponsive to anything but the reset sequence.
Tried the five Rs, restoring using the 2006-06, 03 and 01 updaters, and draining the battery completely.
The guy at apple support said he'd not heard of anything like this before. It's going in for warranty service, but has anyone else encountered this problem?

I am having the same issue with my Ipod Nano. I downloaded some new music last Thurs. Every time I tried to turn it on the following day, I had to reset it. The last time I used it was Friday night with an ITrip. I had to reset it for the Ipod to turn on, but once on it worked fine.
I didn't drain the entire battery out of it that night and haven't been able to turn it on since. I have tried everything but restoring the Ipod. When I try to reset it, nothing. When I try updating the software, nothing. When I plug it in to my computer, nothing. I took my USB cord to work thinking it was my computer and plugged it in, nothing. I have had it sitting in a Bose docking station, still nothing. What the **** is wrong with this thing? I can't restore it if I can't get it to turn on. PLEASE HELP!!
PS- I have read through the forum and have tried the things people have suggested thus far. No luck with anything.

  • Problems with iPod Nano 6th Gen Playback & Updating

Hi. I have had a look and can't find another post on this - apologies if I have missed it!
My problems start before I purchased my new Nano 16GB last week.
When the last update of iTunes came available, I was unable to install it. The task bar would get to about 50% (although it varied) and would then time out. When I had this problem I tried everything from every forum imaginable, from deleting all Temp files, disabling the firewall and all start up applications and clearing the registry – everything. Nothing worked. Eventually I decided that I should uninstall, then install the new version.
After a week of the same problems trying to install iTunes, I gave up and downloaded on another computer, and saved the .exe file to a USB stick. This worked until two days after I downloaded it, yet another update came out and I had to start all over again (I didn’t – I am running on 10.1.2.17 still).
I was concerned when I purchased my new Nano that I would have problems connecting it to iTunes as I was not running the new version – but it was okay. Unfortunately, the iPod requires update 1.1 and I am also having the same problem with this – I get time out error 3259 after sometime trying to download it. And yes, I have tried all the same tricks, but nothing seems to work.
I am running Vista on a Dell PC, and connect to the internet on a pre-pay internet USB dongle. I can download updates for other programmes, and other files successfully – it is only iTunes that I am having an issue with. ITunes is added to my list of accepted programmes on my firewall, but I disable that when I am downloading.
Meanwhile! My new iPod is fantastic. Unfortunately I am experiencing an odd problem with it, and cannot seem to find other people with the same issue. The memory is not overloaded (it has 1.10GB of free space on it). I have 1857 tracks on it, and 14 podcasts. I play the music files through the ‘Songs’ menu, on Shuffle mode. For some reason, after playing one or two tracks, it doesn’t seem to want to play the next one. The track will be displayed on the screen, but it does not play. When you look at the song progress bar, it shows that it is part way through the song, but it is not moving. I have tried pressing ‘Pause’ followed by ‘Play’ and nothing happens.
The only way to get it to start playing again is to skip to the next track, but even this has its issues. Sometimes, when you skip forward a track, it plays a completely different track to the one that is displayed. When you look at the progress bar for the song it is showing, it isn’t moving, but music is still coming out!
Does anyone have any idea what the issue is, and how I can get the machine to play continuously without having to handle it several times? Please?!

  • IPod Nano 7th gen - software update error and now not functioning

    Hello,
I recently plugged an older 7th gen iPod Nano that I hadn't used in a while into my computer (Windows 7 operating system) and iTunes wanted me to let it update its software. I said 'yes,' not really thining anything of it, and as the software update was taking place, an 'unexpected error' occurred. Now my iPod will not turn on or respond or anything. It shut off while plugged into the computer and has stayed off and I am unable to get it to turn back on. It is totally dead, like the failed update somehow ruined my iPod.
The iPod itself was a little damaged - the LCD touchscreen was nonfunctioning due to water damage, and only displayed a white screen when on, but I could still 'shake to shuffle' and it would play all of my music just fine. Now the iPod will not work at all.
Is there anything that can be done or am I just out of luck here? Did the fact that the iPod was damaged have something to do with the failed update?
I'm kind of bummed 'cause the iPod still played my music perfectly....
Thanks for any help or insights anybody can give.

I should add 2 important points: 1) I have no trouble syncing with my PC, just in updating the nano software, and (2) Buried in some Apple reference I found mention of problems if the nano isn't formatted for a PC vs. Mac. It gives info on how to tell what the format is, but it's outdated (the menu choices are different). I believe it is already formatted for a PC because of an entry under Settings/About which says the Version is "1.0 PC". Tell me if I'm wrong. Also, it would help me if I knew the destination of the software download. Does it download directly to the Nano or to a temporary folder on my PC?

  • IPod Nano 4G won't work with my car stereo

So I bought a new stereo for my car and it has a built in controls for an iPod and a dedicated wire for my iPod to directly connect to the stereo. I placed this wire in the glove box. Now the stereo was installed fine, everything works except for my iPod Nano 4G. I can successfully plug my iPhone into the connector and I'll be able to use my stereo to control my iPhone while it is in the glove box but for some reason there is a read error when attempting to talk to my 4G nano and I don't know what to do... Very bothersome....

called up crutchfield they said I would have to downgrade the software on my Nano to 1.0 and not the 1.0.2 that is currently installed, except I don't recall there being a software update that came out. Not to mention that I don't know where to get a hold of the 1.0.0 software....
    any help would be awesome

Please if anyone could reply to the possible ways of fixing this error I will be grateful.
I have tried to provide as much information as I can .
-Yes , my iTunes is updated to the latest version.
-My iPod is a Silver Ipod Nano Second generation 4GB's
-It is fresh from the box
-My computer is a Windows XP Pro.
    Thanks for your time.

For this, first try going through the dll fix outlines in article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304508
If that doesn't work, try doing a selective startup through MSCONFIG (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538), and then updating the iPod.

  • Ipod nano version 1.2 update problem

After many hours and checking out tthe help provided in Discussions Forum I finally manage to install iTunes 7.0 (although I wish I hadn't)I was then prompted to update my ipod to version 1.2 ... Now when I connect the ipod it appears in the source area and right hand window The Summary tab seems OK but I can't get the music tab work to manage (add or delete songs) ipod. I can still play ipod through iTunes but can't view the songs ... I'll never update again without checking out "The Forum"
    Help!!!

Yesterday I installed iTunes 7 (Windows) and today I connected my iPod nano (previous generation) but now it is telling me I need to restore my iPod. It also tells me the iPod has been updated. When I press restore it goes into a cycle in which it begins by giving me the usual warnings about losing songs on the iPod and then says don't disconnect while restoring. It appears to be restoring then comes back with the message: "....has detected an iPod in recovery...you must restore" I have redownloaded. Rebooted the PC and all the other R's but still in this loop help!!!!!

  • My ipod nano (6th) won't hold volume

My 6th gen. ipod nano won't hold volume, but moves right back to silent after clicking the bar full.  I have reset it to factory settings.  What else?

If it is that new you may need to take it to apple. Another thing to try is press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and Volume Down button simultaneously for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears.
