My iPod nano 5th generation won't work on my windows 8.1 laptop,help?

Ok last year I got my first Toshiba laptop for Christmas and had my iPod nano since 2010. The iPod was fittied in perfectly when I first got the laptop and there was no problem with it until a few days ago it wasnt able to recognize the device at all. I tried uninstalling iTunes, turning off the laptop and putting the ipod in plus taking it out god knows how much, it still wouldn't recognize the device! Ive never seen it to fail although we have an old Windows XP computer and there was no problem regonizing it but I prefer to have the iPod on my own laptop computer so I can install purchases easily! Can somebody please tell me how to solve this problem?!

    My Ipod's working already. After not using it for 2 days, the weird sound coming from the earphones stopped. I guessed there was no battery anymore. That's why it stopped. After that, I connected it to my comp and it sychronized. Anyways, I'm happy it's back

    i've been trying to sync my ipod but it won't do anything. i tried reinstalling itunes 4 times but that didn't help. i also tried a bunch of other things from the support page and that didn't help either.

    If you connect it to the Mac with iTunes NOT running, and run Disk Utility, does it appear in the sidebar as a "disk"?  Also, you can run System Profiler or System Information (depending Mac OS X version).  It is in Applications/Utilities/, but you can also run it from the About This Mac window.  Does the shuffle appear as a device under USB?
    The red light when you move the power switch to ON means very low charge in battery.  That probably means the battery is not getting charged when connected.  In terms of hardware, that could mean a bad USB port on Mac, a bad USB cable, or a bad connection on the shuffle.  In any case, power is not getting to the battery.  It might be a bad battery, but if that was the only problem, I think the shuffle would still appear in iTunes when connected.  That's why asked if it appeared in Disk Utility or System Profiler/Information; if it does, the connection is working (even though iTunes does not see it for some reason).
    You can make sure the USB port is working by using something else that is similar (like a USB flash drive) on the same port.  If you happen to have another USB cable, you also try to rule out a bad cable.

I let the battery fully drain and then recharge it, that didn't work either. I have restored it 3 times, and that hasnt worked either. Out of things to try!

    Sounds like you have tried everything you could.  Time to set the iPod up for service or start saving for a nwe one.

  • I accidentally reset my Ipod nano 5th generation and now it say's window's Ipod and will not sync in Itunes... How can this be fixed?

    The Ipod shows up in Itunes as "Window's Ipod" but won't let me manually sync through devices or restore.  I can't seem to click on the "window's Ipod box to cjange it back to "my Ipod" either.  I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Itunes and used different USB ports and still no change.

    What happens when you try to restore the iPod?

    Although you used the new USB 3.0 port, the actual connection speed is still USB2.0, as the iPod Dock connector, does not have the 10 times faster USB3.0 signal pins, the connection speed is still 480Mbits/s
    I assumed that you have tried the other USB 2.0 port to no success..
    Can you do the iPod Disk diagnostic as posted earlier by tt2, it wont fix your problem, but helps in troubleshooting.

Here is the problem: The tab where you go to sync music to your iPod and shows the list of artists and songs you want to sync to the iPod, the tab I can get to but the list of songs and artists does not show up and the only way I can sync music to my iPod is to basically wipe my iPod and start from scratch. Obviously, I do not want to do that because I do not have all the songs in my library that I have on my iPod. I have uninstalled iTunes and then re-installed it, but it did not work and I do not know what else to do. I would really appreciate helpful guidance to get it fixed if it can be fixed.     I recently just found my iPod since it's been lost, I can't understand why it won't turn on when it's not on the charger? It comes on when I put the charger in, thats fine, an I can listen to music and all, it even shows the bolt on the battery and that it's charging, also shows fine on my computer, it connects an I can sync music but I just don't get why when I take it out the charger it goes off and won't turn back on! I tried looking online on how to reset which I did but no luck not even when when I tried resetting it while charging t still won't come on without the charger connected to it. Unless I'm doing it wrong, I don't get it. It never had that problem, although it's been dead for a really long time but does it make a difference? And the battery doesn't show full, it still shows it charging you know when it moving ? And I can't even tell if the battery has gotten at least half way charged cause it goes right off when I take the charger out. Its been about 7-8 hours that I had it on and off the charger . Can you help me? Does the battery have be completely full to where it's still and green ? Not moving back and forth meaning it's not charged at all? Some gadgets don't show the battery is at least half way. On the computer on iTunes, it says it's up to date

  • Ipod nano 5th generation freezes when trying to play a song or video

    Within the last couple of day my ipod nano 5th generation started freezing whenever i tryed to play a song. Oly way i could turn it off was by resetting it, however it did not fix the problem and still freezes whenever i try to play a song. I have even restored it to factory setting and it does the exact same thing. I don't understand why it does this, does anyone know why it freezes and won't stop? i don't have any warrenty on it and want to know if it is fixable, because it just randomly started freezing when trying to play music. If any one knows why it would be appriacted to know.

    Does this happen with any song or video you play?  If so, then my best guess would be a hardware issue since a restore to factory settings did not resolve it.
