My ipod nano generation 3 is no longer recognized in itunes, my ipod nano generation 3 is no longer recognized in itunes

My Ipod nano generation 3 is not being recognized by itunes as a device?  It shows it connected by doesnt sync

Thanks KT, after following your advice the iPod nano and the two cameras are now visible in iTunes or iPhoto and also in Finder.
The cameras continue to work consistently with iPhoto but since trying to complete a 'Restore' with the iPod nano I've had a string of error messages and it is now no longer useable. I'll be posting for help on this in the iPod discussion forum.

  • Nano is not recognized by Itunes or Ipod loader

i have a 2gb black nano and it is not recognized by my home pc or work pc (running windows xp) by either itunes or ipod loader.
after browsing through some topics, i found a way to enable disk mode, this allowed my nano to be recognized by ipod loader. i proceeded to do a factory restore to this running the november version of ipod loader and it displays "do not disconnect" forever. so i restart it manually by select + menu, then find out that it is still not recognized by itunes or ipod loader. realizing that disk mode allowed ipod loader to work, i tried disk mode on itunes and it recognizes it! so basically, my question boils down to...
Should itunes and ipod loader automatically recognize the nano once its plugged in while it is in normal mode? or do i need to keep enabling disk mode to update through itunes and loader? how many people have this same behavior running xp? Thx!

Wow I'm surprised this is such a common problem... So for those who can't connect with itunes and iloader: does disk mode work for you? Hit the center button and play button simultaneously after you reset it (right when the apple logo first appears) to enable disk mode... For me, this works all the time when connecting, but I don't think this is normal since i used to be able to connect in normal mode... maybe someday apple will realize we don't all have Macs...

  • IPod Nano not recognized in iTunes, desktop, iPod reset

I went to update my iPod Nano's music selection and found it isn't showing up in iTunes. I reinstalled iTunes, restarted the computer, reset the Nano and still nothing. It does not show up in Disk Utility but does show up in Apple Disk Profiler. When I try the iPod updater, it says "waiting for the iPod to be ready". My 30 GB iPod works just fine, immediately recognized by iTunes. As soon as I connect the iPod Nano to the computer, it goes to "Do not Disconnect", darkens, and stays there. It does charge. How can I reformat the Nano if iTunes or iPod updater doesn't see/recognize it?

A couple of pages later in the forum, I saw something about disk mode. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
I tried that out and my Nano did mount. I then was able to restore the Nano to factory settings, after which time everything worked ok.

It had not been used for awhile and most of the songs that were on there were gone when I turned it on.  I was trying to sync to update the library.

Weeks, months, years?  It's possible your battery is dying.  Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.
    Syncing Music to iPod

  • I am going from an Ipod classic to a 6th generation ipod nano .  The full library will not fit on the nano.  How do i switch out music on the nano?

I went from an i pod classic to a nano.  My music library is larger than what synced on my nano.  I want to switch to some different music in my library, how do I do this?

So is mine...by about 150GB, LOL (I've been around awhile, and have LOTS of music). Anyway, how I do it is either delete/uncheck stuff in iTunes (Not efficient as you have to select each, individual song that you want to delete/uncheck. You can't just delete/uncheck an entire album. Hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple entries) or delete things from the iTunes Music folder.
If you delete them in iTunes, you have the option of keeping the files or sending them to the Trash (Mac speak for the Recycle Bin; don't do this unless you have backup copies. I'm being overly cautious, but never hurts to have backups). Then you'd have to sync your Music manually or all the songs in your Library may try and add themselves back onto your iPod. Although, if you just uncheck them (haven't tried it) that may not be a problem.
The Music folder may be much quicker - I haven't tried this as it didn't occur to me until after I deleted stuff in iTunes. It's located in My Documents > My Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Music - I think that's right but don't quote me as my PC is on its way out the door to a charity. I'm on a Mac, now. Check iTunes for the location, to be sure. Anyway, make a copy of the Music folder and put it somewhere safe (pretty much, anywhere else on your PC). Then, open the Music folder, in the iTunes Media folder, and delete away. This is also not uber efficient, but it's workable as long as you have a backup.
Saving your Music folder may not be necessary as iTunes now has the option of retrieving everything you've ever purchased (click on Purchased, in the left column, click on Download Previous Purchase at the lower, right and then click on the Music tab). This didn't used to be an option; used to be, you had to repurchase any Music you lost in iTunes and from your computer.
As soon as you're down to a decent level in iTunes, start adding more music and then sync your iPod. Not sure if you can drag and drop into iTunes on a PC (you can on a Mac), but you could try that. I forget exactly as I haven't touched my PC in over 6 months...which is why it's on its way out the door. After I install a new hard drive (I have one lying around), reinstall basic Windows then bake my old hard drive before putting it in the trash. LOL
I may not be quite correct about everything I've told you as all my music is stored on/copied to an external drive (even stuff I purchase through iTunes), so I just toss things in the trash as I see fit, drag stuff out, off my external drive, drop them into iTunes and sync. Plus, I'm just a skosh rusty on a PC.
If I haven't gotten everything quite right, someone will probably be along and give you better/more/more concise info.

I have two iPods, one IPod touch from the fourth generation and another one that must be from the first generation iPod nano. Can I trade them both in?
    The Fourth generation- 16GB
    First generation-4GB

Apple does not have a "trade in" program for iPods, other than the recycling program that gives you a 10% discount on a new iPod (at an Apple Retail Store).

There are some third-party (non-Apple) companies that provide compensation for old iPods.  You can also sell them yourself on eBay.

  • I have the IPOD Touch Generation 3.  I can no longer sync songs from itunes.  They said it is an Apple issue not Itunes since they are downloaded.  How can I syn the new songs??

I have been given to itunes numerous times by Apple. ITUNES have referred me back to Apple as I may not have the current software on my IPOD TOUCH, model MC086LL.  I have purchased/downloaded songs, but they will not sync to my IPOD.  ITUNES again said this is an issue with the IPOD TOUCH software not them.   Does anyone know how I can get this resolved??

Carolyn Samit, what are yo saying? He say he has a MC086LL at iOS 4,2. That is a 2G iPod. The software update comes with iOS 5 and the 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1

  • Vista Upgrade - No Longer Synchs Files iTunes to iPod Nano

What a nightmare - iTunes/iPod worked beautifully with XP - but when I upgraded to Vista it stopped synchronising all my files onto my iPod. Some files says "I am not authorised to use on this computer". Tried to re-authorise but iTunes (despite recognising my my iTunes account to re-set password) then said I had to set up a new account. As well as not synching stuff I have purchased on iTunes it also is not synching audio MP4 files I have bought from Audiable Books despite before Vista upgrade always seemlessly synched with iPod. This is totally ruining my experience with iPod - so before I throw it out of my window please help me get my iTunes and iPod synching properly so I can play the music I have purchased and books. HELP HELP yours very frustrated!!!!

Please be patient, sync issues are time consuming, if you are lucky, just a Hard Rest and Restore will solved it.
    Ok Software Version 1.1.2.
So you can see all your 10,000 songs, in the new PC iTunes, and do you have any problem syncing the iPod using iTunes 10.5.3.3 on the old computer?
Can you do a Hard Reset  as below
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.

  • My computer no longer recognizes my Model M9244LL ipod. how can i fix this?

itunes managed to erase all the music on the ipod when I connected it, and would not continue after that. The ipod said do not disconnect, then the music i did have on it was all erased.  After that the ipod reset and now the battery dies every time i try connecting, even though it was charged before i started.
Connecting seems to completely discharge the battery.
NOW Itunes can no longer see the device and now my computer USB port will not recognize my Model M9244LL ipod classic.
How can i get this ipod updated with my new playlist now.  Right now it has no more music on it, since itunes removed what was there.  Please someone help me out.  I would appreciate it so much.  Thanks.

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Your profile says iOS 3.1.2, which only applies to the iPod Touch or iPhone.  Are you sure you actually have an iPod nano?
