My new Ipod Nano 7 does not come up as a drive on my computer. The computer clunks to acknowledge a new device is attached but it is not shown in explorer. ITunes DOES open as it should, but it gives me a message "An IPod has been detected but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the IPod and try again. If the problem persists, please uninstall ITunes and reinstall ITunes." We did all that, several times. The new IPod does work correctly on our other laptop, of the same generation, with similar security. Could this be a block specific to some security on my computer? We tried all ports on my computer. I can't troubleshoot using my previous IPod because I put it through the laundry - thus the reason for a new one.
Hi MartyP680,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It appears that you're receiving a message that your iPod nano can't be identified properly, and you've already tried removing and reinstalling iTunes. You've also isolated this behavior to only one of your PCs.
If the issue persists, there are some additional tips in this article that may help, including verifying that the Apple Mobile Device Support service installed properly and is running:

The "Learn More" section also mentions some other potentially conflicting software to look for on your PC.

IPod nano cannot be recognized by my computer (and then some)
i recently got a 4 GB nano and my computer cannot read it. i have itunes installed and it runs perfectly well. but when i connect the ipod, it brings up a message saying that windows cannot recognize the hardware because of a malfunction.
i know that the ipod works as i have tested it on another computer and was able to put a few songs on there. i would use the other computer but it has other problems that limit ipod operation (CDs can't be read)
not only will my computer not recognize it, but more often now when i connect the ipod the computer completely restarts as soon as the ipod comes on.
i don't know what's wrong but i know that the ipod works fine and i have used the USB ports numerous times before
can anyone help?this MAY help

My 6th generation nano isn't recognized by my computer. When I plug it in an error message pops up, which says "USB Device Not Recognized". Does anyone know how to start trouble shooting this? I updated both windows and iTunes.
Work through all the suggestions in this Apple support document first.

My ipod nano isn't syncing when I try and change the setting in manually, but is however syncing when I launch the itunes by plugging it in. I'm wondering if anyone has had this issue and/or had been able to fix the problem?
Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
• Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
• Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
• Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
• Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

My computer can not recognize the new Apple iPod touch when it is connected via the USB cable (that goes with it) attempt to attach it to the computer.
You do have iTunes installed right?

I can not dowload the new updated software for my Ipod touch 4G. When i do I get an error message that says Network connection has timed out. I have done the trouble shooting steps. Downloaded the latest version of Itunes, and checked network connection
Disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall during the download and update usually resolves the timeout error.

My computer crashed. So does this mean I can not add any more music to my ipod from a different computer without all the songs being erased? The ipod works fine and now i got a new computer. So it seems like my only options are leaving my ipod in a state where i cant add anymore songs or erasing all my songs and trying to use my ipod from my new computer. Can someone please inform me on how to have my ipod work from a different computer, even if i have to erase my songs. Thanks.
Yes, if you choose the Erase and Sync option (or restore your iPod) you will be allowed to sync your iPod with the new computer.
If you would like to save the content that's currently on your iPod, see this older thread from another forum member Zevoneer discussing the different ways to copy the content on an iPod back to your PC.

I just updated my iTunes, and I need to delete photos from my iPod 4, and there is a Photo Library that synced to my iPod when i plugged it into my computer, and now it doesnt have the option to delete them off my iPod. How do I get rid of these photos? I have read other questions that say to plug the iPod into the computer and like un-sync it, but I downloaded the new iTunes and it doesnt have a photos tab. Does anyone know how to solve my problem? Please and Thank You, Megan!
Just what did you do to the computer?
It sounds like the iPodf is seening the iTunes libary as a new libary. -
My computer crashed and I downloaded Itunes on a new computer and I'm trying to download new music to my ipod and a message comes up thatsays 'my ipod is synced with another Itunes library' {obviously my dead computer} and I can either 'Erase and Sync or Transfer Itunes purchases'. Is there ANY way possible I don't have to erase my music and can download some new stuff? Please help. Thanks- so frustrated.
Yes. I have no personal experience with this, but it is possible to recover your music from an iPod. See this link: http://guides.macrumors.com/Recovering_Songs_from_an_iPod

I'm having trouble with my macbook pro, I have only had it for three months, when I plugged a camera sd card into the sd slot it isn't appearing anywhere on the computer and i can not access my photographs. can somebody please help me?

Clifton I must disagree with you on the above statement. It is my opinion and experience that you should never connect the camera directly to any computer, Mac Windows Whatever.
It is always best to Remove the memory card from the camera and put it in a card reader, whether an external reader or one built into the computer, to copy images from the card.
Hi Shootist. I would be interested in hearing some reasoning on this. I almost always use a USB cable to connect my camera to the MBP for transferring pictures, and have moved about 30,000 this way over the last 6 years since my photography went digital. Recently, on the rare occassions when I have only a few to transfer and I was too lazy to go for the cable, I have used the card reader; about half those times I have difficulty getting the MBP to recognise the card. I find I have to press the card very hard into the slot for it to be recognised.
My rationale is quite possibly wrong, but I feel that the USB connectors are more robust and hard-wearing than the flimsy connectors on an SD card. Also, I haven't measured it, but I think the data transfer is faster with the cable. (I just came across this test, which reports noticeably faster transfer for cable than built-in card reader, but the computer was a PC)
Chiara, sorry for hijacking your thread. -
