My ipod nano keeps pausing!

I have had the ipod for six months and now while im listening to any song it just pauses even when in hold(locked).i thought it was the headsets so i went to apple and bought another pair but its still doing it. anyone know what it could be.

Start by resetting your iPod.(hold the menu and center buttons down together for 7 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen) Reset your iPod several times.
If that didn't help, then you may need to run a restore on your iPod.

  • Why does my  Gen 7 ipod nano keep pausing?

I've owned a Gen 7 iPod nano for a month now as a go-to MP3 player for work (we can't use our phones to listen to music due to cell phone abuse that's happened). Everything seemed fine until about 2-3 weeks ago I found that my music kept spontaneously pausing. Ok so I figured that maybe I hit the button on the side so I used the remote on my earbuds to continue playing. Another slight move and the thing pauses again. I quickly discovered that the slightest movement of the earbud jack triggers this thing to pause the music.
I then thought it was the headphones and perhaps the remote causing it to glitch. So I went and bought a cheap basic pair of earbuds (Sennheisers) without the remote only to find that the pausing is still going on. I've cleaned out the jack numerous times and it is still doing it. Any idea why this is happening? Seems like this is a known issue as I've seen that others ran into this. Why would Apple continue to let faulty product to be sold? For $140, I would have expected this to last longer, now thinking I should have stuck with a cheapo MP3 player from Walmart as it would have probably lasted longer
Are there any fixes to this or should I retire this practically new 'pod (and get my hard-earned cash back) and move onto something better? I'm now kind of weary of buying Apple devices if this is the kind of performance I'm going to get from it.

  • Why does my ipod nano keep pausing about 10's seconds into a song

when my ipod nano 8Gb is plugged into my computer works fine. but when i unplug it it plays for abt 10=20 seconds and then it pauses..very annoying. anyone know how to fix before i throw it against a wall?

Your nano is pausing playback when the screen goes dark (Either when it goes dark on its own or when you click the sleep/wake button). The reason for this is that it is not detecting your headset. You may be able to hear music, but the headset jack is not inserted enough for the nano to detect that it is there (or something is blocking the connection). Here are your three options:
Insert the headset jack harder. Most folks find that this solves their problem. If you can see ANY of the silver of the plug when it is inserted, it is NOT fully inserted. You should feel and hear a click" when it is fully inserted.
Clean out the crud in the headset port. If you have tried #1 and it just won't insert all the way, it is likely that you have crud in your headset jack. Shine a light in there. The entire inside of the jack is white, so if it looks dark down at the bottom, there is probably crud down there. You can try blowing it out or using canned air. Just understand that shoving anything else in there to clean it out will be taking your warranty into your own hands! However, I have cleaned mine out using whatever was handy and small enough to fit in there and so far so good. Your results may vary!
Take it to the Apple store. If you have really tried with 1 and 2 and it is still happening, then there might just be something up with your headset port or your headset jack. If it is the headset jack, you can look closely at that and be pretty sure if that is the problem. Try another headset to make sure. If you have worked all the way through to this point and it is still happening, it is time to take it to the Apple store.

  • Ipod nano keeps randomly pausing.

Ipod nano keeps pausing mid song and it's not the headphones... I've tried different sets of headphones & even held them in so they were flush. Still keeps happening. Been listening with no issue for about 2 hours before it started happrning all of a sudden. sometimes it will play 10 second sometimes it will [lay a few minuts but it always eventually pauses itself. Any ideas?

I just received my brand new 7th Gen iPod Nano today, ordered directly from the Apple website, and I am experiencing the exact same issue. I have tried several diffent pairs of headphones and regardless, the iPod randomly pauses. I also noticed that on occasion if I press play the iPod will indicate that it is playing music however no sound comes out of the headphones. It seems pretty clear to me the headphone jack is faulty... I suppose I'll need to get on the phone and deal with the highly inconvenient process of exchanging it. Very disappointed.

  • Nano keeps pausing.

    Ipod nano 4 Gb

Well i just recently bought the AppleCare protection plan so im gunna now send it in and let them fix it. Thats the only thing i can think of, it must be a softwear malfunction or glitch and it thinks im taking the head phones out.

    Hello Mo0nangel,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
First, try updating the iPod software. Follow the steps in this article:
    Updating iPod software
If the problem persists, you may have to restore your iPod:
    Restoring iPod to factory settings
Unfortunately, restoring will wipe your nano clean of all songs and photos.

  • 2nd Gen. iPod nano keeps disconnecting

My 2nd Generation iPod Nano keeps disconnecting.  It was working fine until I tried to delete everything, which did not work, so I resorted to clicking "Restore".  The problem is that I am trying to sync podcasts only I keep getting a message:  "The iPod...cannot be synced.  The required file cannot be found".  This is very bizzare because I also realized the iPod Nano itself keeps giving a message also:  "OK to disconnect" and goes into sleep mode.  I am not sure if this is a settings issue...Help!
    Note:  The iPod is charged.

Ummm.. didn't you read the box or Apple website BEFORE you bought it?
You've made it through almost 3 large OS updates without complaint so I don't see how Apple wronged you.
This is your fault for not looking into this beforehand. There were major changes in OSX starting with X.3 that made it so that some software would not be compatible with the operating systems below that version. iTunes is such software.
    * Your nano needs iTunes 7 to sync.
    * iTunes 7 does not work is OS9, OSX.1, or OSX.2
Just like it won't work in Windows 98 or ME
An operating system made FOUR and a HALF YEARS ago can not be expected to support into perpetuity hardware that did not exist back then.
Your laptop works just fine, you have no problems upgrading cheaply to X.3 (you don't NEED X.4 despite your claims) and you can cut the pathetic comparisons to how "simple" windows makes it with anything.
He11, their own Zune isn't even supported by Vista.
I for one am glad the OS is updated in approximately 12-18 month intervals instead of allowing it to languish on its laurels. The gains in features are a good thing not a curse. If you want them people are free to upgrade at their discretion. No one is forcing you to upgrade the OS and no one made you buy the Nano. The requirements are all over the place and it was your job to look into it before buying it.

  • Why does my ipod nano keep shutting off?

My new Ipod nano keeps shutting off after about a minute when playing music. It is fully charged.

Hi, I had the same problem  googled the problem & it said to make sure ear piece  is in as far as possible , make sure no silver is showing on the jack, check out ifixit.com. mine now working ok.

  • My brand new 6th gen ipod nano keeps shutting down after about 30 seconds?

My new 6th generation ipod nano keeps shutting down after 30 seconds. It has been registered with itunes and has about 200+ songs on it. I have not tried to reset it because i was not sure what this would do. Please help!

This is usually a sign that your headphones are not plugged all the way in.  Make sure you cannot see any silver still showing from the headphone's plug.  It may require a little extra force to get the headphones to become fully inserted.  You should hear a sort of clicking noise indicating that they have been fully seated.
Also check the headphone port from a damage or debris.

  • What do I do if my iPod nano keeps syncing, resetting, and syncing and i cant add music to it? I've tried syncing my other iPod and that works just fine.

What do I do if my iPod nano keeps syncing, resetting, and syncing and I cant add music to it? I've tried syncing my other iPod and that works just fine.

If it is a lightning to 30 pin adaptor, and you have a 7th Generation Nano it has to fit the Nano.
This is lightning to 30 pin adapter: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B---Lightning-to-30-Pin-Adapter/6651 936.p?id=1218803450821&skuId=6651936#tab=overview
    Is this what you bought?
You need to contact Sony and see if they model you have is compatible with the docking adapter. It may not be.

  • NEW ipod Classic keeps pausing

My iPod classic keeps pausing randomly, every 1-4 minutes. It happens in my car when it's plugged into the auxillary jack and when I use headphones. When I am listening with headphones, it sits flat on my desk and doesn't move at all and it still pauses.

It may be related to the data "caching" used by iPods with a hard drive for storage.  This caching (pre-loading upcoming song data into memory) allows the iPod to play continuously, even if movement and vibration cause access to the iPod's hard drive to NOT be continuous.  However, if the iPod is stationary on a desk, this should not happen.
If you have not already, Reset (restart) the iPod
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1320
If that does not help, you may want to do a Restore on the iPod using iTunes.  The cause may be data corruption on the iPod's storage.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  This will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.  After the Restore, sync your songs as before, and see of this problem still recurs.
It's also possible that the iPod's hard drive is faulty, and that is why the iPod is having problems accessing the song data (which causes these pauses).  If the Restore does not resolve this problem, you should have it looked at under warranty.  If there is a conveniently located Apple Store, you can make a reservation at the store's Genius Bar.  OR, if possible, return it for a full refund and get another one.

  • My 4th gen Ipod nano keeps getting stuck on the apple logo.

My 4th gen Ipod Nano keeps getting stuck on the Apple logo screen, this happens everytime I plug it in to charge. I plug it in, an apple logo comes up, and it stays like that the entire time its plugged in. To get it to unfreeze, i have to press random buttons and unplug and re plug in earbuds. After 20-25min of doing this it unfreezes and I come to find it has gotten little to no charge after being plugged in for hours at a time. Any one else have this problem, and if so what do you do?

This can be a corrupted software/firmware on your iPod touch. If the recovery mode you did was not forced, then try to force it into recovery mode. This is how:
    1. Force it to shut down (note: this sort of shut down should not be preformed unless you are in a situation like this because it is a hardware shutdown and will not attempt to unload software, save unsaved files, safely stop system processes, etc.) to do this, hold down the power/sleep button and home button for about 7 or 10 secs. Also I might be incorrect but I heard that you can just hold down the sleep and home button until the screen goes blank and then immediately let go.
    2. Have iTunes running. Hold down the home button and plug the USB cable that came with your iPod into it. Keep on holding on the home button until a picture of a USB cable going into the iTunes logo appears. You are now in a forced recovery mode. (In case your not so tech-savvy forced recovery is the same as a normal recovery mode that an iPod might do if it knows an update or restore failed.)
    3. iTunes should have shown a pop-up message about it found a iPod in recovery mode. Click OK, click your iPod from the sidebar and click restore. The iPod will show the apple logo for a while and iTunes will say "preparing iPod for restore" and then "waiting for iPod" this was the longest part of updates for me.
    4. iPod will reboot when restore is completed. When I update my iPod it one time showed the apple logo for one whole sync until it showed the slide to unlock screen, so do not worry. P.S if that does not work do a DFU mode restore ( I've been told DFU mode stands for device firmware update mode) I'm running out of room, so google it. Hope this helped ;)

  • Nano keeps pausing itself.

My Nano started acting funky last night. It keeps pausing itself during playback. I did a restore and it worked fine for a couple of hours, now it's back to pausing itself. Any suggestions?

It's happening to me as well with podcasts. It also goes into a skipping mode as if I were holding the forward button down. Even toggling the hold button to it's red setting doesn't stop this behavior. I've reset it three times. The first time it helped for a while. Yesterday it didn't help at all. Today I tried toggling the hold button and resetting. I don't know if that is different than just resetting without first toggling hold button as I was doing yesterday. It's working properly at the moment. We'll see if it lasts this time. I've listened to the same tracks on my iPhone and they are working fine there, so it's not a problem with the podcasts.
For what it's worth, the "OK to disconnect" screen lingers a fair while before you can do anything with the iPod after unplugging - possibly a minute or more.

  • Does the iPod nano keep changing songs if I keep it in my pocket?

I'm not going to be running or gymming with the iPod nano in my pocket. It is mostly for home use. I just wanted to know that since there is no HOLD/LOCK button, it may keep changing songs if put in a tight pocket while walking or travelling. Is that the case?
Also, should I buy it for home use? (With the occasional outdoor trip? Or do you think I just stick to my laptop)

If you have Shake to Shuffle turned off and you push the sleep button it shouldn't change songs in your pocket. Mine doesn't.
